You should never have to pay to unlock a feature that you already physically bought and own
Consider it like a supercharger option you buy and pay for and have some greasy guy take hours to install and then possibly screw up your engine. But this is safer, under warranty and instant.
@@piggypooothe problem is you bought something with the hardware that’s already capable of doing it, you just can’t use them unless you pay. Feels like when bmw tried to make certain options standard (like cooled seats) you just couldn’t use them unless you paid a monthly fee.
@g32k this is a one time charge though. The model 3 Lr, ie, is perfectly calibrated for its acceleration. In unlocking the software that controls it's acceleration, tesla is giving you permission to go faster than what it was designed for. Your brakes, suspension, etc will take a huge hit for this but they'll allow you to do it and the entire car will still be warrantied. A Supercharger installed out of dealer on an ice car will void your engine warranty. That's how I see it. I understand there is nothing physical being added

I bought and returned it. It is faster, but it doesn’t make the drive better. The power puts more stress and wear on the tires too. The tires slip slightly under hard acceleration. It’s fun, but the original tune is great, as is.
