  • Edward Bahena uses his power era Kukkiwon Taekwondo against Muay Thai. Let's see how he dismantles the muay thai guy's game plan and uses different types of kicks, distance management, and unorthodox ring control to win his match. This is incredible demonstration of power era taekwondo that would make the retired Kwonkicker proud.

    Some more things to keep in might that we will learn a lot more about once I release the interview with Eddy on Fight Commentary Chats:
    1. Eddy before going into kickboxing/mma has already had ~200 TKD tournaments, so unlike many fighters, he has fortified his mind to not get "stage fright" before a match. This is something I never thought about until talking to Eddy because I always assume fighters get an adrenaline spike just from walking out. But Eddy is so used to competing from TKD that competing publicly is not a hurdle he has to prepare himself for as much.
    2. Eddy started training boxing in his teens, so his ability to put punches with his kicks in combos isn't purely from his TKD training. He's primarily a kicker, as we've seen from his matches, but having punches in your arsenal is so important. We even saw it in this match with his check hook that he threw I think twice.
    3. Eddy's IG is edward_bahena_mma if you want to follow him on IG. Like with any person we feature, please respect his time and training and avoid sending him long essays or rants in the DMs.

      Also, I keep writing "Eddy," but he spells it "Eddie." I will definitely spell it correctly in the next match commentary. The third match that Eddie does against Muay Thai is even more epic. Stay tuned ;)

      Finally an elite WTF kicker representing. They have kicking down to a sweet science.. it's boxing with the feet. The double/ multiple kicks are all feints to set up the last power kick. Elite WTF fighters are dangerous in the street- dont underestimate them. Their ability to control distance and stay on the outside is their key. You're wrong about 1)adrenaline. 200 fights is valuable bc of experience but w/o adrenaline and pressure, you will get complacent. 2)you're also wrong about: he's going to lose energy circling on the outside...that's what he does so he's trained for it. Going inside and tussling will drain him bc thats not his home.

    Eddy is making Tae Kwon Do shine again is because his footwork. Look how Eddy moves, he's definitely training a lot of cardio. Eddy guard is down but his distance is good, so he also spars a lot to know his spins and kicks strikes. Eddy knows his thing by making his style of Tae Kwon Do very unique. Good work Eddy. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

    The reason his TKD is much better than the other guy (Chinese guy i think?) is because of the footwork. He is actually using the footwork, that you learn from TKD sparring, properly. That makes him able to close the gap to the Muay thai guy and throw some nice kick onto him.

    In PH's old school WTF TKD, we called that multiple roundhouse (45 deg) kicks as "Bullet Kicks" :) This kick is fast but we only the last kick will have the power. This kick is easy to jam also :) This is usually used with one as fake while the next kick will hit. Straight push/power attacks usually cancels this technique though. Happy to see old school style TKD used in the ring ^_^

  • @cutkicker

    Yes, double, triple, quadruple is correct for TKD verbiage.
    He initiated it with a step (footwork) called a fast step causing the opponent to get on his horse. Eddie followed his movement while winding up the double roundhouse that's why it looks like stutter stepping... Until the range is correct.

    I don't know if we have similar trauma. My brother died yesterday. Not kidding. My mom and grandma died the same day last year and a friend was beaten to death by gangsters. I wish I could train but I have an elbow and a knee injury. I was lifting jugs of water in bags, in the woods like a 70s Jackie Chan movie. Hopefully my knee is okay to do sprints today. I take 5htp, neurontin, kratom and alcohol to feel better but I'm not sure you want me recommending that here. I'm trying to quit the alcohol but the rest I reccomend. Besides that, there is no perfect advice for that kind of trauma. Not that you were asking. Train, hang out with friends and don't let the day be consumed with sadness. Maybe I don't know anything. Trying to figure it out. Hope you find a way to not let trauma destroy you. Apperears you're dealing with hard times well. Good luck.

    As a TKD guy moving into Muay Thai, the one question I have is how much falling down on your own is being penalized in these matches? I understand in traditional Muay Thai sparring, falling down and retreating incur heavy point penalties. I have been told the moment you start moving backwards, you start losing the match. Not second guessing Eddy's skill, he's obviously really talented, but curious to know how this works in Muay Thai?

    I wonder if MT guy had some mental blackout. The pattern of the switch kicks was known to him. Maybe this time, the first, i.e. the body kick, had some serious impact, that made him lose reaction to the second, head one. Or he was overthinking how to overcome the situation where he was clearly behind and had no real receipe to change the score.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah, Eddy told me that in the first match we featured him he was actually switched last minute to fight the champion at the time. So even though it felt like that first opponent was inexperienced, he, like this second opponent in this video, likely got so confused and had exactly like you said a "mental blackout." It's great watching these non-standard kickboxing styles work, because it also mentally confuses the opponent.
