I usually hate when my friends "invite me" for lunch and I end up paying. Like idk if they know what inviting means but to me it means. "don't worry, we'll pay for you this time bud."

MiyukiItachi It doesn't if you're older than 16. Inviting someone for lunch means you'll pay for the lunch. Asking someone if they want to join them for lunch means everybody pays for their own food. Learn basic etiquette, it will help you later in life.

I know! It pisses me off when people don't tip enough or at all, it's rude and if you didn't have the money, you shouldn't have gone out. Waiters/waitresses live off of tips.

To be fair, tipping is a stupid system anyway. Businesses should just pay their employees better in the first place.
It may be stupid, but it's what we've got, so tips should be figured in with the cost of the meal when you plan to go out.
In Korea its " rude " to tip cause they get paid really well. People say its offensive? Idk I live in Korea but I just saw a vid about it

+ElaineMokk my family's the opposite. Well... at least my parents at any rate. They spoiled my brother and I rotten. I think moderation is the key. There's such a thing, I think, as spending TOO MUCH as well. Doesn't teach your kids how to spend their money wisely. I mean, yes, my parents could afford it, but when I left the house, it didn't leave me with any good habits to learn from my parents.

I do the leftover thing a lot. Not cause I'm cheap, but because I have a major guilty conscience from wasting food.
Um sure because onions, garlic, broccoli and avocado are good for dogs. Um not. The stuff I just listed is poisonous to dogs. Not only that but dogs can't absorb grains properly and they're not supposed to cooked meat and fat. You're lucky your dog hasn't gotten pancreatitis yet.
I'm not the "cheap" friend because I'd needs friends to be that.

I don't get tipping. In America it's like instilled in the etiquette of being an American but like I don't know why you would tip someone for doing their job, even if they do it really good, which is what they should do anyways so

Well in the U.K. they pay their servers enough to survive off of. Over here they get paid less than minimum wage($2-$5) and depend on tips to get by.

If you're broke, or just don't want to spend the money, stay home. You can always invite people over for a movie night, or to play video games together. It fun, cheap, and you still get to hang out. (: It's okay to want to conserve some money, but if you can't afford to pull your own weight without disrupting others, it's fine to stay home too.

If I don't have any money or don't want to spend money I typically don't go out, unless a friend offers to pay. Also I don't really hold debt over my friend's head. Sometimes I'll spot them and sometimes they'll spot me. Isn't that what friends do?

I feel really bad if I don't tip like 5 dollars at least when I'm out. I try to get about 3 dollars a person, but if I'm alone then I do like 5-7 usually. I feel bad because waiters/waitresses get horrible wages and they live off tips practically so yeah. Like I remember once I went to pizza hut with 25 friends and we ordered so much pizza and we all gave enough and it ended up being like a 120 dollar tip.

because tips ARE their pay, the hourly pay for a typical server is only about half of minimum wage.
PinkKat I slightly take back what I said... At a Korean BBQ restaurant our bill was around $100 but on the bill they included 20% of our meal for the tip so we were forced to pay extra... And we had to ask for our change because they didn't even count the money.

Van Haven Mostly. Sure there is expectations. I myself am from Northern Europe and in most countries I've went to, nobody is obliged to pay tips, although it can be appreciated. I've also lived in East Asia, where tipping is jut not a thing altogether. Now when talking about America... tipping like what, 20%? is a must there and that's what I growing up (and a lot of other people) weren't ever even aware of. It boggles me that waitresses in America don't get a decent salary otherwise. That's why there's a lot of misunderstandings between Americans and people from other countries when discussing tipping lol. I shouldn't have said exclusively, but yes, it's a very American thing.

Why do Americans feel the need to tip all of the time? As someone from the UK I don't understand it at all unless they have been an amazing waiter. Could someone please explain it to me I really want to know.
Waiters and waitresses get paid less in America and they rely on tips. From what I've heard Europeans pay their waiters and waitresses enough to live comfortably so it isn't as big a problem.

Why does everyone in the U.S thinks tipping is mandatory? I mean, waitress' salary is included in the food prices already and they actually ARE getting paid for that. Why must I give them more money? That's just absurd.
