That Mr. Freeze bit felt so...real. I can imagine with Victor's research in cryotherapy, him and Nora liked to eat ice cream since that was their careers. And Victor eating ice cream is one of the only things he's able to eat because everything else is too warm. Ice cream is one of the only ways he can connect with the human world and most importantly Nora. That is so unbelievably touching and tragic it needs to be in the comics.
I absolutely love the respect you consistently have for the source material. Freeze getting two bowls so Nora can have her favorite ice cream flavor was an amazing bit
Ironically, before the Animated Series, Mr. Freeze (or Mr. Zero, as he was originally called) was a C-list villain with no such tragic backstory. He was unceremoniously killed by Joker in Chuck Dixon's Robin series and was used in Grant Morrison's Animal Man as an example of a character no one will remember. As a fly is to a zapper or a soldier to war, batman is ultimately never to have a day peice as he is nothing without crime no matter the ramifications on his own being

This was the best skit from this channel I've seen so far, I think. Joker "doing his part", Bane helping Riddler get stronger, and then Mr. Freeze getting ice cream. I was confused as to why he had two bowls, I thought the other one was going to be for Batman, but it being for Nora was shockingly sad and wholesome at the same time. The fact that the ending scene with Mr. Freeze eating his Ice Cream with Nora didn't have any dialogue only accentuates the performance. Truly perfect, well done JJ.
I do actually wish we got to see more moments like this from The Joker. I mean he's supposed to be so chaotic and demented that even powerful telepaths and otherworldly multidimensional beings can't understand or predict him, but all he ever does is crime. This, _this_ is unexpected. It doesn't have to played as like "oh it's therapeutic" either, though I do like that angle. But it could also just be like "Oh the Bats is gonna wrack his brain over how this plays into my scheme, but actually I'm just literally cleaning the park" or "well of course I'm cleaning the park, I need it to look good for later" y'know he could have lots of reasons.
@@davidwuhrer6704 Well whether it fails depends on the motivation. The Joker's motives are often said to be known only to him. This is why Freeze has always been my fav Batman villan (he's really an antagonist) since I was kid because he's so genuine, he still holds on to his humanity.
Yeah he's always been my favorite too. Perhaps the most relatable villain, because I think most of us would do anything to save our wife/husband if we were in the same shoes.
He's an anti-villain, which is to say a villain with noble or selfless motivations. (The opposite of the anti-hero, who acts heroically for personal gain or benefit.) Villains are usually antagonists, but antagonists don't have to be villains.
I love that alongside all the villains having a group chat together this also implies that Batman is only allowed to arrest these known criminals specifically when they are doing crime and otherwise all the rogue gallery are free to just walk around the city
Most of them are mentally ill, and so don't get fixed prison sentences; instead being able to leave Arkham whenever their conditions seem manageable. The others, I imagine, get off on a mistrial since "Batman caught him being shady" doesn't constitute strong evidence in court.
There is a surprising number of real criminals who seem to think the same thing. If someone called the cops over a different matter, they can't arrest you on your warrants because that _isn't why they were called_ , or they are convinced that you can't pull them over for "just" a suspended license or unregistered tags when there are "real criminals" and drunks you should be out busting. Like you can tell who is wanted or drunk without pulling cars over to check them out.

The funny thing about this is that this is actually the reality that Batman secretly wants. But he knows that at any time, when you least expect it, a crime can happen. And he has to always be vigilant when no one else can. In Batman Beyond there is this great line he gives to Terry, when the later claims that one night to himself won’t make any difference. *”One night ALWAYS makes the difference!”*
@@davidwuhrer6704 Adding onto what the guy above me said, there really just isn't anything Bats could actually do about social inequality. You could throw as much money at the problem as you want, but as long as governments just don't do anything about it, you won't be helping at all.
@@Kami74159 There is a reason why it is the job of governments. The reason is people like Bruce Wayne. They benefit personally from social inequality. Not necessarily by giving them an excuse to assault petty criminals as a hobby, but mostly because it gives them power over others and keeps wages low. And the only reason some governments have become unable or unwilling to do this job is people like Bruce Wayne. The idea that the money issued by governments is wasted and therefore private enterprise is more efficient has encouraged deregulation and fostered monopolies, for the benefit of you get the idea. The phrase "golden parachute" is used unironically nowadays. "Revolving door" and "regulatory capture" have also become common. The root problem is the misbegotten idea that money is finite and what you can get for it is not, so there is incentive to extract as much money from the economy as possible while there are still things that can be bought. Which is enough to imply that Batman is not serious. But if he were, there are things he could do, easily. Not preventing good policies would be a start. The deregulated economy also calls people like him "job creators" even though the name of the game has been "downsizing" for decades now. Governments can create jobs which fosters the economy and reduces poverty, crime, and, yes, mental illness. But so can captains of industry. They don't even need to pay for it with their own money. But, as mentioned above, they have no incentive to do so. And as Margaret Thatcher stated when she privatised government services and deregulated the economy: "There is no such thing as society. There are only incentives." Famously, a Mr Musk has announced on a website he later bought that if the UN could present him with a plan for how a fraction of his inherited wealth could alleviate world hunger, he would pay the required amount. The UN did present him with that plan. Apparently he believed that to be impossible, because so far he has not kept his promise. He does donate enough money to a charity about homelessness to not pay any taxes, a charity that seems surprisingly ineffective and seems to use its funds in ways that return those donations to him. Batsy is in an even easier position because, for one, he is fictional, and for another, depending on writer, Gotham is a company town built by and around WayneCorp or, when it isn't, he has enough power and influence to reign in certain politicians he doesn't like. Now, back to governments not doing their job: When that happens, when enough people resort to crime to survive (which has higher risk, lower reward, and no government benefits compared to honest work), crime becomes organised. In some cases this has led to organised crime running hospitals and schools and creating jobs and fostering small businesses, effectively doing government work without the accountability of government. And in practically all instances of Batman, organised crime is a huge problem in Gotham City for Batman to do something about. (Although it would be WayneCorp who is selling the mobsters their hardware. Incentives.)
I love how jj actually understands the characters from dc that ending was so sad and true to the character honestly he didn’t have to do that but I’m happy you did

Amazing job🤣 Also thank you for actually making him Hispanic like he’s supposed to be, so many times they forget he’s not just some random jacked white dude
Yeah, too many writers forget this aspect of The Joker. He's absolutely scared of "getting stale", and identifies himself with chaos. The "joke" he's always on about is that it's all meaningless because they're in a comic book where everything just reverts every time. Nothing either of them do matters, because it'll get retconned or rebooted or undone somehow. All their actions are meaningless. The one time he got grand cosmic power, after getting bored of torturing reality he tried to kill the multiverse over it. So he does whatever the hell. If cleaning up litter helps him destress, he's not going to be concerned about his brand. He would find it a billion times funnier to see everyone fleeing in terror of him while he does nothing bad, and might reward anyone who has the guts to ask him what's up.
1:25 He was actually looking for Sportsmaster and his family who just opened up a branch of their gym in Gotham. They were also taking the day off and Artemis had betrayed them to go join Young Justice a day before anyway and Sportsmaster is having a hard time dealing with that.
1:00 Considering Riddler _does_ in fact get hella jacked in the Harley Quinn cartoon by being forced to run in a hamster wheel after being captured for several episodes straight (although this leaves him slightly rusty with the whole “riddle” thing from a prolonged lack of practice), and Bane from the same show has a vested interest in the improvement of others in his territory of the then divided up Gotham (albeit in a fully rehabilitative way then just physical), this bit here holds a good bit of canonical weight.

And Victor eating ice cream is one of the only things he's able to eat because everything else is too warm. Ice cream is one of the only ways he can connect with the human world and most importantly Nora. That is so unbelievably touching and tragic it needs to be in the comics.

Ironically, before the Animated Series, Mr. Freeze (or Mr. Zero, as he was originally called) was a C-list villain with no such tragic backstory.
If his scheme is to get Bats wondering about his scheme, it has already failed.

Well whether it fails depends on the motivation. The Joker's motives are often said to be known only to him. It may seem from the outside looking in that it was pointless, but that's kinda what I mean.
If he doesn't want crime to happen, he could always do something to remove social inequality.
@@davidwuhrer6704 What about guys like Black Mask who don’t have a financial problem?
There are only incentives."
Famously, a Mr Musk has announced on a website he later bought that if the UN could present him with a plan for how a fraction of his inherited wealth could alleviate world hunger, he would pay the required amount.

Well, I didn't expect that sad, sad ending...
Mr Freeze really hit Batman in the feels, that ending scene was wholesome.
That ending...it took my heart and smashed it.
So nice of the rest of the villains to take a day off for Freeze so he can mourn his wife. What a wholesome band of friends!
I love how jj actually understands the characters from dc that ending was so sad and true to the character honestly he didn’t have to do that but I’m happy you did
That Victor Freeze ending... I wasn't expecting a tearjerker at the end. Keep up the good work, Solid jj!
Bro, come on. Don’t make me cry in the last tens seconds 😭😭
“Crime never takes a day off!”
“…well clearly it does!”
That’s gotta be the most golden line here outside of “You all just decided to wear your villainous outfits today!” “If I take this off, I WILL die…”
Joker saying picking up litter is therapeutic and it’s his way of doing his part for society while at the same time downplaying murdering millions as just who is , is one of the most comic accurate jokes you’ve made so far. Amazing job🤣
Also thank you for actually making him Hispanic like he’s supposed to be, so many times they forget he’s not just some random jacked white dude
making a new Hispanic like he's supposed to bed
@@nebson ah fuck, thanks for thr heads up.
For a minute I thought you meant Joker and my whole world turned upside down. Then I was like ooooh Bane! Lol.
i mean, he is the new mayor in the harleen quinn animated, he can be a murderer and still do social work
Yeah, too many writers forget this aspect of The Joker.
That last scene hit me so hard in the feels, I teared up
Great job, man
Ok.
Two things:
1. Bane accidentally breaking Batman’s back again in a jovial manner.
2. That ending with Freeze and Nora hit way different.
The idea that bane helps riddler get stronger and motivate himself is something I didn’t know I needed
1:00
Considering Riddler _does_ in fact get hella jacked in the Harley Quinn cartoon by being forced to run in a hamster wheel after being captured for several episodes straight (although this leaves him slightly rusty with the whole “riddle” thing from a prolonged lack of practice), and Bane from the same show has a vested interest in the improvement of others in his territory of the then divided up Gotham (albeit in a fully rehabilitative way then just physical), this bit here holds a good bit of canonical weight.
1) Joker is so chaotic this is possible
2) This would also explained Riddler’s gains in Harley Quinn
1:18 stopping spotting in the middle is dangerous
Dr. Freeze has and always will be the most sympathetic villain in DC
Why you gotta hit us with that ending 😭not even Victor can have a happy ending in a goddamn Solid JJ video
Love how in the solid jj universe all of the villains canonically have a villain group chat for discussing days off
Its interesting to watch your skill as a creator grow as you make these. Like yeah theyre still mostly just goofy little skits that you throw together for fun but it feels like youre alnost starting to kinda develop your versions of these characters in your own way.
And *WHAM,* that finale! Right in the feels!
This is like that Ending from Futurama with the Dog.
Just had to add the Mr Freeze sad moment at the end.
Actually a really in character moment for him to share a moment with his frozen or dead wife remembering better times.
Damn, the ending got me really hard in the feels, so touching.
This is better than the actual comics
Comics nowadays kinda suck. I prefer 00s-early 10s stuff
Especially now adays
True
A cult of magic, Evil, invisible alpacas are behind every bad thing that happens in our modern world...
@@looniemoonie5955 anything by Zdarsky is great nowadays but 80s is peak
2:48 I was about the comment that shouldn't he be grieving? But the last scene made me go "Oh".
@404 TV Where Dr.Freeze is sadly looking at his Wife's photo with a bowl of Ice cream.
Never thought I'd see a comedic upload by Solid jj that ended on a truly heartfelt and somber moment. I'm shook.
0:05 that animation was so smooth.
Powerpoint be like
2:24 I mean it’s likely Catwoman is having a day off as well, Batman could probably go on a date with her. Then again she’s likely out of town
This is a weirdly common plot. "All the villains are not being evil todat so the hero has nothing to do". Its usually a trick
This is probably the best video on this channel so far, I really hope this art stuff keeps going!
0:49 that is actually New York City from spider man the animated series.
