- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is soon! Nintendo just revealed World of Light in the latest Nintendo Direct, acting as a story or adventure mode. It showed off the new final boss turning all the other heroes into trophies! All but one... KIRBY! But obviously that's for the sake of gameplay, setting that aside, which other Smash characters could have been able to survive? That's today's discussion.

@@Attaxalotl well, canonically the hylian shield in BoTW is the same hylian shield in the other games. And the Link in this is the BoTW Link. It's possible that, since the game takes place hundreds (and likely thousands) of years since Skyward Sword (the first appearance of the shield in the games timeline) so the shield was probably closer to _almost_ unbreakable, or really _really_ durable, and over the years it just started to weaken. And then you get the shield in Tarrey Town, which likely is just a recreation of it, hence the lower durability. But that's just a theory, so don't assume I'm 100% correct here

In Smash 4, he *_was_* gone, right? WRONG. Snake, MASTER OF DISGUISE, became Lucas' Rope Snake grab, and INFUSED into the snake his OWN serpentine spirit... According to my sources, snakes evolved from human hands over the course of trillions of years. Where do we see hands? THE MASTER HAND. Where does the Master Hand come from? *_Galeem._* It's blatantly obvious to anyone with eyes that Snake, having given his own spirit to Rope Snake, mind-controlled Rope Snake and forced him to give Snake's spirit to the Master Hand, which is from Galeem, meaning it is Galeem, meaning Snake is Galeem, which means that the box represents the Master Hand. The Master Hand, however, died in Brawl's Subspace Emissary. This means that Snake's box is now dead. But who has power to revive the dead? Goddesses, like Palutena. To get Palutena back, Snake, who is also Galeem, allowed Kirby to live so that Kirby could undo the damage done to Snake's box by Galeem, who is Snake, who wants his box better again. It's all very obvious.

Okay, how does World of Light fit into the “real life” smash universe? Like, the characters are toys, so what’s with all the hands (in real life)? My personal headcanon is that at this point, the kid’s parents are having a garage sale, selling all his old toys, and the master hands are the people coming to take them away. Kirby fell off the table and wasn’t seen, then the kid found him and has to track down all his other toys.

Meta Knight could survive. He’s the guy who trained Kirby into the hero he is now and is of the same race. Meta Knight in his base form can destroy universes using his Galaxia sword and he can fly much faster than light, and cross galaxies in seconds

It makes sense Kirby is the one to survive. Not only the Warp Star allow him to phase out of reality thanks to its lightspeed, but if anything, he could take down Galeem alone if he wanted to. It's not like that's the first time he has to deal with reality-warping eldritch abominations (Nightmare, the different incarnations of the Dark Matter force, Marx, Magolor and so on…)
Plenty of characters in smash can move faster than light though.

Rosalina is literally a space princess which can reset the universe. So I think she can survive
One character that survived is the Zapper user for Duck Hunt Trio. Since they live on the other side of the TV screen the beams shouldn't have been able to get them. Now they can apparently only shoot things near Duck Hunt Dog and Duck, so they're effectively useless now, but they should still exist.

To be fair about Kirby surviving, he is constantly taking down gods on the regular, so this is probably just another day for him. And since he could start creating friends from his copy abilities, he's probably used to everyone around him dying. Sure maybe other characters have taken on one maybe two ultra op god dudes, but Kirby is the only one who can't go 5 seconds without finding another one to obliterate. Him surviving like that just proves this simply because as soon as he heard Marth say "we each need to take down about 10," he knew that the fight was over before it began and needed to get out of there before everyone else so that he could come back unexpectedly and save the universe for the 8th time that week. He knows his allies, he's been with them since the beginning, Kirby knew that 90% of the fighters could do nothing to 750+ Master Hands, let alone a god. If you ask me, him using the commotion of all of his friends dying was quite the strategy (as long as the others don't find out). Kirby was the only one who could survive and still be able to save everything and everyone.

Let's take a moment to remember that a mid power Kirby enemy destroyed an entire (preexisting) dimension with his death and could spontaneously generate black holes. Kirby also punches planets in half... For a friendly competition.

In other series, yes they may be more powerful or threatening; but how many characters can say that they have slain as many or more gods than Kirby? If any, it's very few (with the exception of technically Link really, but he is also continuously reincarnated)

He may not have jets in his image, but there is a reason he had numerous anime, manga adaptions and is the symbol for Japan's 2020 Olympics.

Ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the first one to be revived. In fact, he is the first character in trailer to be shown after Kirby in the World Map.
I think Kirby got a first start... After Shulk finished “future-seeing” he looked at Kirby, because he thinks that Kirby had the best chance of surviving. Why do I think that as Shulk looked Kirby? If you do the size comparison after Shulk looked behind him, the camera was as the same level as Mario’s head, making me think Shulk looked at Kirby.

There could be ways some characters could survive:
-Mario can use a warp zone to go to the star world since that’s more of a separate universe aside from being a world
Luigi, peach, and any other Mario character including Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong could follow suit for Mario
-Sonic could use both the chaos emeralds and the time stones from sonic cd to go back in time with the help of chaos control and prevent the events from happening destroying both darkon and galeem as super sonic or with the help of the super emeralds, hyper sonic, since sonic HAS the chaos emeralds with him all the time
-The 3 Links, Zelda/Sheik, and Ganondorf can use the ocarina of time to go back in time like sonic can do with the time stones
-Megaman could use flash man’s time stop or bright man’s flash stopper to stop time and could use his double gear system along with every other weapon he has acquired from every game (yes, even the top spin) to blast galeem out of existence and could do the same for darkon
Fox and falco's arwings can warp through dimensions too

@@Sacred_Fox Or get permanently stuck in the Glitch World: Minus World, which seems to be a mishap of time and space itself, as trying to escape from Minus World turns-back progress in it back to the beginning of the level. As it's a glitch and technically doesn't exist, although it'd be stuck there forever, it would be spared of the blast.

Sakurai has actually said the other 2 that could have made it were Bayonetta and Palutana due to their powers. But they would hardly make good starting characters for the mode

Gregory Moran Bayonetta has Jubileus(the creation goddess who got demoted to Goddess of Light and Paradisio) and Aesir(God of Chaos who gave man the ability to create out of pity) under her belt when it comes to killing gods, both of whom are capable of destroying galaxies. Course, galaxy busting is a bit much when you’re trying to kill one person and rule the universe. And she can summon Queen Sheba, Jubileus’ rival who can punch someone as hard as Saitama and is the reason Jubileus got demoted in the first place. And since Balder is a spirit in SSBU she could summon Omne, who is more powerful than both Jubileus AND Queen Sheba combined, yet stays neutral because they don’t actually care about what happens in the universe.
Bayonetta characters are either insane or apathetic asses. Luckily, the two most powerful beings in her universe are the apathetic ones, otherwise Bayo’s screwed. Ain’t that great?

- a demonic three headed skeleton that can rot (wither) things
- literal TNT
- a charged creeper explosion
- lava's heat

On the topic of Shulk, the current headcanon is that he saw Kirby had the best chance of survival in his vision and cast Monado Speed on him (something you can do in Xenoblade as the way Monado Arts work was changed to fit Smash) in order to help him get up to speed faster.
The tricky thing about his god powers is that the Monado in its most powerful form is omnipotent, but only within the Xenoblade 1 universe, as its power was what created it. This universe is a Japan-sized pocket dimension, though, so even then he likely couldn't take a galaxy-busting attack. The power source of the Monado also left at the end of the game, so Smash Shulk can actually be postgame Shulk, just using a Replica Monado designed after his original one. That being said, his visions come from sensing the motion of ether, so him having one means that it is present in this scenario and as such he can reality-warp to some extent, but with the time he had it's not likely that he'd be able to come up with a way of saving everyone even with casting Speed on himself to think faster, so he just went with the option that would get someone out of the way.
If he had prep time for this, on the other hand (assuming he's using a version of the real Monado and not a replica), the best course of action would be to hook the sword up to as big of an energy source as possible. Xenoblade 2 reveals that the computer processor powering the Monado was able to jump through space-time and actually create the pocket dimension XC1 universe when provided with enough energy, so if Shulk got access to that much again, he'd likely be able to create a small refuge dimension for the fighters to hide out in. If you were wondering, he is intelligent in-universe, and probably the most canonically smart non-robot in Smash, so this is actually something he'd be able to come up with if he was plucked from after the end of his game.

If we're being "canon" about their abilities outside of Smash then there's no way Kirby had a better chance of survival over Bayonetta on paper. They let her get hit for the sake of not letting the obvious live. Sonic is another example because he sped down in order to attempt to save Pikachu, killing himself in the process. It's in his personality so it's a fine addition, but if it weren't for that little snippet then he'd of been out of there with a shulk buff or possibly even without. I say possibly without, because they wanted us to SEE Sonic slow down for a reason, thus showing that the possibility existed but maybe not.
As far as Bayonetta goes, anyone who's played her franchise knows she could've Witch Timed that whole situation effortlessly and got out(because canon wise she can freeze time at will), or dodged the rays WAY more times than once just like she does in her own games against every Demon and Angel boss without taking a scratch, or straight up just left to into a limbo like realm. Don't get me wrong I PREFER Kirby as the remaining survivor because it's unexpected, but Bayonetta is just a ridiculous character lore wise. I agree Kirby is capable though yeah.
To absolutely be that guy... Sakurai doesn't work on Kirby anymore. He hasn't since 2003. And he only made 1 Kid Icarus game. So he doesn't work on either series "all the time." =P

Actually Mario could just backwards long jump to build up speed to enter different Parallel Universes, yes it may normally take 12 hours but with some urgency it could take a very short time. After entering the Parallel Universe he could just press the A button 0.5x to kill Galeem.

If you look deeper into the canon of each character, I'm fairly sure a bunch can reasonably survive. Mario in particular has been through a lot of stuff, Pokémon abilities tend to be broken, Megaman can stop time with Flashman's ability, etc. Also Sonic has a chaos emerald in one of his win poses, implying he does carry one with him.

Actually, in one of Sonic's Victory Poses, he shows one of the Chaos Emeralds, and uses the seven Emeralds during his Final Smash, but that's probably just for the Gameplay. @@runningoncylinders3829 Not all the Pokemon are captured. Also, Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon was stuck in their Final Smash animation, so they had no time to go into Pokeballs. Also, the Pokeball would've been destroyed by the beams.

You can get multiple Hylian Shields in Breath of the Wild. Keep in mind, also, that those Hylian Shields were given out to any soldier who could take down a Stalnox. Those probably aren't the same as *_the_* Hylian Shield.
