REVIEW - Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid | EP 104

- The Taycan is ridiculously expensive, making the Panamera Turbo S shine. It more or less has the same performance as the Taycan Turbo but at a smaller price tag if you consider that you will get a better discount on a Panamera in comparison to a Taycan. It's an Autobahn racer rather than a B-road tool.

After sitting in a Taycan i jumped over into a Panamera and the Panamera was actually nicer to sit in, lower to the ground. But maybe im just allergic to electric motors.
Panamera is what more comfortable
Awesome. Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching.
Amazing video and representation sir. ✌🏻
Thanks for watching.
Thank your for a great review. I just went for the 971 Panamera 4S petrol. Its engine combined with the weight makes it the most dynamic Panamera in the "Panamera family". And with its 6 sylinder, 2,9 twin turbo, it`s a rocket and quite economical. Self tested, normal driving 0,84 l/100km which almost never happens ;) (tests says 0,81 l/100km. I`m probably going to wait a few more years until I`ll go for an electrical daily. But a lot cheaper electric town car is in under consideration. Keep the good content coming. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Claus Phillip Resberg congrats! Did you test the Turbo?
@@Nord_Mann Both 😂 But I haven't tried the "boost" button yet. Saving that for New years.. 💥
Congratulations to your Panamera. Yes sometimes we fortget the excellence in the 4s petrol. I'm going to have an look at it. Thanks for contributing to our community. Take care.
Merry Xmas! Just a note: A BEV powertrain (batteries + motors + inverters) as the Taycan has is ~3 TIMES more expensive than a conventional ICE powertrain (ICE engine + gearbox + awd system). Not only are the batteries crazy heavy, they are also insanely expensive. That goes someway to explain why the Taycan and other BEV:s are so much more expansive than comparable petrol/diesel cars. With hybrids the equation is more complex, for sure also those smaller batteries and e-motors cost a lot...
Well the batteries is expensive but more or less every penny is saved by removing all other parts that ICE needs. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Love all your videos Janko but this Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is the Porsche I would want!
It is a beauty, a bit expensive for my taste but I love drivning it.
Best comment, after the sneeze in your bloopers, "perhaps I am allergic to Electric Motors."
Thanks for the review.
Thanks Ron, not all viewers watch my bloopers or material that dose not stick to the story line. A bonus for my regular viewers. FYI I don't have bloopers on all my videos.
@@JankoLind yes I saw that. But I also liked the banana move for Taycan entry. 🤣
Happy New Year Janko I look forward to seeing your many adventures in 2020
Hi Neil, me to, sorry for the late reply, catching up a bit.
@@JankoLind All good mate
Great Video. A foot in the present and a foot in the future !

More B roll of panemera would be really great to watch.....
Thanks, I'm trying to balance this as much as I can. My audience are divided in to two part, one part appreciate B-roles. Thanks for watching and subscribing
i really love your video content!
Thanks you, thePaperDinosaur, for the time you spend on my channel. Have you subscribed?
Janko Lind OF COURSE! Love love love the ch!!!
Taycan or Panamera hybrid? I think I‘ll go for the latter! Your video comes at the right time for me although I come to a different conclusion - thanks!
And what did you buy?
Janko Lind - We tested the Cayenne Coupe Hybrid and the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid G.T. just before the whole Corona dilemma started. As you quite rightly mentioned the Panamera is probably the better option for longer trips on the Autobahn which is what we need i.e. we will go for the Panamera when this
terrible Corona scenario is hopefully over soon. We are however not so sure whether we should go for the standard version or the G.T. - what‘s your optinion?
Cheers!
Have you tested the Turbo? I think the Panamera ST Turbo is the most impressive car I’ve driven in the entire Porsche range. What a beast! +300kg lighter than this hybrid S, 550hp and an insane V8 rumble to go along. Breathtaking to say the least!
Happy Holidays Janko, and I’m on level with you regarding the Taycan. It’s just way too expensive for what you get, and the range is mediocre. Standing roadside charging you “luxurious" EV every 250-300km isn’t really premium is it? Porsche definitively got this wrong and will need to come out with a Taycan 2.0 to remedy this. Guess what happens to the value of your Taycan 1.0 then... Thanks, but no thanks!

I wouldn’t agree that the Taycan is cheaper to produce: For a start, that V8 engine will be substantially cheaper to produce than the massive battery on the Taycan.
Hi Russel,
No that is not true, but for Porsche and other OEM YES. The reason is, the V8 is assembled in Porsche factories but they do not have the knowledge to assemble the batteries and have to buy them from other companies such as Northvolt. Therefore the batteries become expensive for car manufacturers. I hope this explains your questions?

God jul och gott nytt år....!
Det samma men beklagar sent svar, ligger efter lite i kommentarerna.
Janko Lind ....no worries, soon we will have all a lot more time to answer comments immediately....😞
Not sure about Panameras, maybe the answer to the one car garage? If you have two garage spaces, maybe get a Honda Accord or equally useable sedan, and use your saved funds on a nice 911.
Yes, I believe I will get onboard your boat. Better to daily a regular car and really focus on your drivning when times is given. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Happy Christmas everybody - great review as always. The Taycan is quite expensive - but - if you take in account how much Porsche and VAG invested in this platform - it will take years before it will break even. The spectrum of pricing is also quite immense -from the 4S - to the Turbo plus. It is a huge bet on the future to make or break Porsche.
Will there be an electric 911?
The Panamera also loses a lot of value compared to other Porsche models. It is a bit a odd one in the line up - it was so ugly in the first generation I couldn't like it. This one is much better, would I buy it? It ´s a big GT car for very long distances.
If you are allergic against hybrids - there is an excellent medicine in your garage you can take in small doses - the 928 :)
Bavarian Car Enthusiast Dev costs should not be a factor in the pricing as they are shared with VW across many platforms. And the taycan won’t “make or break Porsche” - for the above reason. Porsche is just a brand of VW. Platforms have quietly started to be shared, even the 911 now shows a platform with Audi.
@@Fluterra Normally not - but the e-mobility is a totally other fish to fry, complete new technology for dev, production and infrastructure - the charging network is still an issue. I am aware of the SUV platform sharing, the 992 is using the MMB platform, is that shared already with Audi? Only know that R8 is sharing with Lamborghini
Fluterra my info tells me the 992 platform is exclusive to the 911. Any link as to otherwise?
@@Nord_Mann and all - I only can find the MMB which is the new platform for the 992 is exclusively for the 911 right now
NO the MMB platform was used the first time from Porsche on the 982, 718 Boxster and Cayman.
I think it will be some years yet before a full EV future takes over.... Hybrid is the solution because many many countries don't yet have the infrastructure in place to facilitate charging..... until governments take hold of this to drive the infrastures forward it is just not practical. I am hoping Porsche has built the Taycan to hedge their bets and protect their balance sheet due to EU taxes being imposed on Co2 emissions vehicles. It will allow a further 10 years of 911 ICE engines to prevail.... In driving enthusiast terms the 2.3tons this panamera weighs is just an engineering disaster... highly complex and literally competing against itself.... it will be interesting to see how a 6 year old Hybrid proves its reliability and if newer tech batteries can be retro fitted to these vehicles once they improve range and charge cycles.... We are also seeing all over the world how energy companies can't deliver reliable renewable energy sources for electricity and hence more and more blackouts are occurring as they cut back on base energy infrastructure. This will only accelerate when hybrid/EV era gains momentum.
"Renewable" energy sources can never meet base load for a country's infrastructure, let alone charging millions of EV's every night. And government means TAXPAYERS.
@@astronmr20 I don't think any of us can really answer that right now many ecosystems will form and many will be off grid. battery storage tech is advancing the whole time. the truth is for all those who wear their climate change badges with pride and try to join the Greta mob of noise, they are just wasting their time... The energy resource companies are investing heavily but only to reduce their overhead with digitisation and leverage free sustainable sources to drive further profits. This is
the only climate redress you will get, climate worriers can shout all they like, its real engineers that make a difference, not young school girls. I know this because I am involved in the blueprint design of all next gen energy needs for an entire nation. It's a very complex topic that most grid systems are not able to currently manage effectively. PS. EV cars are already in the calculations... :-)
Thank you all for contributing to our community. All of you well put. It reflects the society we live in. Did you know that governments around the world are facing another problem, declining petrol and diesel taxation. Only in Sweden, 7 billion Euro income/year for the government is threatened by the EV. A study I have sean points out that 47% of people living in the center of cities would like to bandom the car in the city. Those to combined threatened the car's existence, leaving the vehicle for use in the countryside.
