    Wonderful drone footage of these important battlefields. I have walked these grounds but your drone work lends a better understanding of the battlefields. Thank you for adding original footage and photos of 1944 with current day scenery. Excellent work!

    Excellent documentary. I have been to all the D-Day beaches and I could feel their presence while I was there. I collected sand from all 5 beaches and feel I have honored the soldiers in some way. Silly, I know, but it was how I felt.

    I'm an Australian and have travelled there many times and visted many different areas of the WW2 conflict arena, believe me it is not just Nornmandy. I am returning this 8th June 24 to catch the tailend of the 80th Anniversary celebrations taking place at Normandy. When I go there I also head to the German cemeteries as well and like the Allied ones they too are full of grave markers with the ages of very very young men, I feel for all of them actually. I can only stand in awe at the sacrifrices made by the American, Canadian, British, French and French resistance people who gave there entire futures by laying down their lives for basically an idea to prevent total facism. Of course not forgetting the Polish, Czech, Dutch, Belgium soldiers and civilians as well. The scope of it all is mind boggling.

      Great points, all! There are so many humbling sites throughout the region and down into Western Europe. Huge war with far reaching impacts. Thankful to all who fought and sacrificed so much.

      Well said and a great documentary.!
      I am also an 'Aussie' and visited Normandy for the first time a month ago - even though Australian's were not involved in the operation - apart from some of our sailors on ships and airmen involved on the day.
      My eldest son is a WO2 in the Australian Army, and he and his wife accompanied me for the trip, as I have always wanted to visit the area stemming from my personal interest with the Army - both as an ADF member of 25 years service and Defence civilian service of 36 years.
      During our visit we followed the coastline to view: 'Omaha', Gold', 'Juno' and 'Sword' Beaches, however we missed 'Utah' as we commenced at 'Omaha' as time was against us..!
      Overall, it was a great experience and insight to events and I hope to have the opportunity yet again to return to take in what I missed this time round..! 😉

      @@raystanley8584 Hi Ray, I have been to loads of the WW2 places, Falaise Gap, Normandy, all the Dambuster dams, Arnhem, Hitler's "Wolfs Lair" in Eastern Poland where they blew him up, Berchtesgarden which is the one most commonly seen with Hitler in the footage, Cemetery Luxembourg where PATTON is buried, german cemetery at Ysselsteyn, it's huge plus most of the WW1 sites as well Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, Passchendale, Ypres, Peronne, Verdun, Villers Brettoneux, Beuamont Hamel, Thiepval, Tyne Cot, Frommelles and a lot of others and the museums attached. If you look on "RUclips" at a channel called "The History Underground" although mostly American stuff they really give you a good idea of stuff to visit and locations. I have even visited T.E.Lawrence grave site in England and his old house which was great. If you wish to contact me I live in the Hunter Valley, NSW I'm on "Facebook" with a Moto Guzzi logo as the profile picture. Be good to ahve a chat and maybe send you some ideas. P.S. Went Guadalcanal a long time ago as well, very interesting place.

    I valued your observations on how negative dogma can resurface and be relabelled. Laziness & hesitance are corrosive, along with the mistaken idea that "someone else will fix it". "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" [Edmund Burke or John Stuart Mill].

      Great quote and very true! America is at an ideological crossroads and we need the “good men” to be active and stand for what is right. Thanks for your valuable comments!

    After the Rangers reached the gun emplacements they discovered that the guns were never installed. My father would have been at Normandy if he hadn't been transferred to the 3rd Infantry Division. He had landed with the US 1st Division in North Africa invasion.

    You seem to be smiling the whole time you were talking, it is a very sombre place that should require a very solemn countenance. Maybe I am seeing it the wrong way.

    • @The_Tall_Traveler
      @The_Tall_Traveler  5 месяцев назад

      Interesting take. I think it merits solemnity as we remember the fallen and contemplate our dire present. I also think the victory achieved merits some warm heartedness as we reflect our thankfulness for their bravery, sacrifice, and heroism.
