In case you missed it, Arthur was planning to off himself as the last punchline of his "joke", but then he realized how much of a horrible person Murray was, only wanting to capitalize on his pain and struggle, in Arthur's eyes Murray went from someone he respects to someone who is basically the same as the thugs that attacked him on the subway.
He realized that Murray was an opportunist of the worst kind, the ones who's opportunity comes at your expense. Murray was a bully and Arthur had enough being pushed around by the rest of the world, much less getting pushed around and bullied on national television TWICE?! No, Arthur, I mean, Joker, had enough
Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar, just like Heath Ledger, by their interpretation of the Joker. And yeah there will be a Joker 2, but it'll be kinda different it seems. Like a musical of sorts.
1:14 Gotham originally was based more on New York, Chicago as well but over time the city formed it's own visual aesthetic using a mix of Gothic Revival and Art Deco Architecture. This is highlighted in Batman 89 by far the most unique looking Gotham City put to live action, followed by Batman Forever that went for a more Art Deco look similar to the Batman Animated Series. And of course The Batman went for a more gothic look and feel being filmed in the UK, places like Liverpool, Edinburgh etc. The Nolan films such as The Dark Knight lacked alot of this visual personality and uniqueness, being filmed in Chicago the city of Gotham just looked like Chicago with not much change. In this film, Joker they short around New Jersey, Jersey City and parts of New York City. It's just early 1980s New York with that transition period between the 70s and into the 80s so the time period for me carries the Gotham City as without it the city would just look like New York in present day. .
In my opinion the dance scene in the bathroom is like Arthur just died and the Joker is discovering its body and tries to move, to evaluate the space around him, reality etc. Its like a passage. Then he looks at himself in the mirror like its the first time and "presents himself". When I saw this sequence, in theater, I cried... I must say. Because of the concept of this scene (improvised tho) or the weight of it, they way its how you can figure that Arthur is no longer in this body or mind. And this is the moment you realize you can't sympathize anymore, you lost someone you thought was good, trying hard while everyone around (including the boss losing clients, the music shop owner forced to close, the psychiatrist who must stop helping him, the neighbor doing a suic*de gesture, the "wall street boys" being drunk and without anybody around them but similarly depressed coworkers, Thomas Wayne himself...) You knew it was coming, everyone knew it was coming, but as we didnt want it to come, it hurts no matter what. A great scene imo. In this world everyone and everything is "tired" and depressed. This man was the only one, because of his childhood trauma (sadly) to keep focusing on trying to make people smile. Then he realized, I guess, that no one was smiling anymore and that he would stop being alone if he became the symbol of all this anger. That's my take, for now.
Joker in the comics really doesn't have much of an origin. The Killing Joke re-visits the idea of The Red Hood who was introduced in *The Man Behind the Red Hood (February 1951)* where the Joker revealed that he was The Red Hood for a time until his encounter with Batman leading to him falling into a vat, Dubbed Red Hood has Pre-Joker was given a domed red helmet and a red cape to wear. The Killing Joke added to this by introducing the idea that Joker was not the sole holder of the identity and was just the latest Red Hood, more sympathetic and tragic motivations. I'm going to refer to Joker as Jack in this story, after Jack Napier an alias used by the Joker. Jack was someone who wanted to provide for his pregnant wife, Jeannie. He was a failed comedian so he resorted to a life of crime and placed himself in mob affairs, so one night, the mob hired two men to kill him. The men let Jack do their wishes under the alias The Red Hood. Then pretty much the events of The Man Behind the Red Hood happen, this time its said that a terrified Jack jumped into the vats instead of being thrown in by Batman. He then becomes the Joker and the mob assuming that Jack was dead hire a corrupt policeman to kill his wife and unborn baby. But... This is the Joker telling the story and right after this he says *"Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"* hinting at the idea that he made this all up. This film gives Joker a solid origin story as Arthur Fleck a failed comedian with an abusive background. But once again the story is from his point of view so we can't say for sure how much of the film is real. At least pre Joker, Positive everything we saw him do as the Joker was all real. I'm VERY interested to see what they'll do with Joker: Folie à Deux (Madness of Two) a rumoured musical set in Arkham Asylum starring Lady Gaga as Doctor Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn. I doubt it will be a full on musical but it will have musical elements showcasing the insanely of the Arkham. Maybe a mix of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Rocky Horror lol
He does. Joker's name is canonically revealed to be Jack Oswald White and Batman has revealed to Alfred that he knew his name within like two days of Joker's first appearance, even keeping tabs on Joker's ex-wife from the Killing Joke who canonically faked her death to get away from Jack because he was abusive and now lives in Alaska with their son. Joker has a definitive origin story, the Killing Joke is canon.
@@CrazeWayYT He's an infinitely more interesting character as "John Doe", the man of unknown origin who surrounds himself in lies. It's what made Heath Ledger's portrayal amazing.
@@andrewodinson3726 Okay, and? I never said what I preferred, the original comment just said Joker didn't have a definitive origin and he does. My feelings about it are irrelevant.
YES I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO REACT TO THIS FILM! Espescially wanting to see your reaction when Joker snaps live on television and when Bruce Wayne appeared. Genuinely, a lot of the scenes in this film shocked me so much that I had to get up from my seat and walk around the house, several times, contemplating what I just watched.
While not necessarily a great presentation of the actual character from the source material, it does offer unique perspective into an alternate more relatableversion of the character but make no mistake, it is a complete and total reimagining of the character of Joker, to the point where they might as well be different characters. That is not a bad thing at all, but people shouldn't think that this is how Joker is usually portrayed.
It's a good depiction of the idea that "Anyone could be the Joker" regardless of your phyrcial appearance, race, gender, etc. Could easily introduce other Jokers as well similar to the Three Joker storyline but I guess we'll have to see.
Huh? Pretty sure it's not even a mixed opinions bruv, pretty sure it's always been good and the ones who hated how good it was are people who thinks joker is pure evil even though he's always had a backstory, and this movie is just another one of them that isn't comic book based
something about the deaths in this movie, im really just not sure what it is, but it's so unsettling and it always makes my heart beat super hard. it always makes me feel so uncomfortable for some reason.
Probably because it's people dying very explicitly. No big music or anything, it looks exactly how it would look irl. It's so raw and powerful that it hits so much harder than say, a death in a war film. Despite it being one person killing another, it's so much worse from how gruesome it is.
Ah... So this is DEFINITELY a first time watch if he's asking this much question huh? Cause people have been sus of this man on faking his reactions cause of how he's never seen or heard any of the spoilers which can be true but if he's asking that much questions I'd say this is he's first watch

Like you would think that little spoiled brat kids would have been rude to Arthur showing up to their fancy house. But Bruce was chill with him. @@Kwualityy If you think they're "immature" than that's, all be it faulty, your opinion. I keep it Old School which is where I feel most comfortable. That's why I have these principles. To feel good.
I can get that, but what also feels good is trying some new things out. Old school is still always going be great. There is also new stuff that is pretty great too. That's why I even said it was immature, I probably could have used a better word. Regardless, you gotta at least give new things a shot. They could surprise you in huge ways.
