What a great structure for your fav books of the year video! I am now aching to read the blue castle it sounds super cozy and perfect for a reset after a particularly dark depressing heart shattering book. I’ve never read anne of green gables but now my interest is piqued!

Wow, loved hearing about all your favorites and I really loved how you organized them all! I’m happy you dialed in what you loved with your reading last year!
I had the 80s Anne of Green Gables movie in a vhs box set as a kid that I loved watching over and over again because I loved Anne so much. I dont think I ever read the books but hearing you talk about them makes me think I need to visit them at some point ❤️

Loved your faves! Ernaux’s candour is my favourite part of her writing, her ability to describe the gritty, and un-fun feelings in a way that feels true is what draws me to her writing and Ferrante’s!

😩 ugh Ferrante and Ernaux do ugly and un-fun (I love that!!) feelings so well 😭

I saved so many books you talked about on goodreads! I read Heavy a few years ago and I love it too, it's one of my favorite memoirs. Based on El Invencible Verano de Liliana (which I now need to read!), I highly recommend After the Eclipse by Sarah Perry. It's about the author's mother and how she was murdered when Sarah was very young. Its so full of love and respect, I think you might enjoy it too :)

@@ivanainthecity The Rachel Incident was one of mine, I adored it! If you haven’t listened to Caroline’s podcast Sentimental Garbage I highly recommend it. I also really loved Bolla by Pajtim Statovci (super sad), Carnality by Lina Wolff and No Ordinary Human Failings by Megan Nolan ☺️

1:41 when you first spoke of the book when you first read it, I too was looking for my copy!! 😅 I found it and then placed it among one of my stacks to read and clearly, I have not learned my lesson about better placing my tinies bc I’m not sure where it’s at 🙈

4:02 Annie ernaux 🙌🏽🎉 yes!! I feel like I’ve read all of her slimmer books and now due to read her lengthier ones - I’m excited to get to them! 😃

10:57 low key LOVE writing lol when annotating and calling it a day if that’s all there is to say about a scene cause that’s how it can be at times and that’s still great writing! 💯

27:05 for me, Monstrilio was probably my favorite 2023 book tho that’s probably because I’ve recently reread it and went to the paperback launch a couple of days ago for it so it’s so fresh on my mind and hopefully I’ll have a post about it soon! 😇
