you definitely did justice to i’m mostly here to enjoy myself - it’s been on my radar but hearing you talk about it has me wanting to pick it up ASAP!! annie ernaux slut era is killing meeee lmao that’s my fav of hers so i’m glad to hear you enjoyed it too!! haven’t heard of the country under my skin but it sounds soooo intriguing. loved this video ivana 🧡
love your taste in books! you’re such a fresh voice in the middle of booktube ❤️🩹❤️🩹
hi!! excited to be on my couch & watching your video!!
‘i’m mostly here to enjoy myself’ sounds so good, i might need to give that one a listen on audio
the blue room painting!! i love that
i think i’m gonna read HAPPENING this weekend!! excited to read another ernaux 💌
9:02 DYING AT THIS LMAO - will def need to pick up A GIRL’S STORY!!
immediately adding THE COUNTRY UNDER MY SKIN to my tbr
💚🖤
One of my fave memoirs (essays) by a Latina is My Time Among the Whites by Jennine Capó Crucet. I really felt seen reading that book!
Production value for romance audiobooks has to be top tier for me to enjoy it.
Agreed! It can totally make or break a romance!
do not want to watch this because then it will be over and you KNOW how much i look forward to your videossssss. i will return with comments once i return. also cute mug!
Thank u ☺️!!!!! Ditto!!!
i do not love that glynnis travelled quite early in the pandemic though it is giving peak westerner energy!!
ok annie ernaux...here we go again. be her pr agent already!!
OK fine i'll try an ernaux!!!!
ooo Assata
Omg best treat to come home to after having to crawl back in a school building today 😭 HYPE
Eeeep! I enjoyed Glynnises memoir too! There are a few parts I want to return to actually
Omg thats the only ernaux i lowkey dnf-ed 😂
Waittttt! I bought a really pretty book by Belli (PURELY for the cover to be honest😂, te voy a mandar una foto). Thats too funny. Her memoir sounds so good!
Belli is a badass what the heck
Not a memoir but I am on the surprising long library queue for Paula because I lowkey miss Allende 😂 I also remember reading Arudhati Roy's walking with the comrades and being so blown away
You review of El Pais Bajo Mi Piel had me sold. Actually all the memoirs sounds really interesting and I now want to read more memoirs by women. I currently have Sandra Cisneros memoir that I need to read and since we start celebrating Hispanic Heritage month this month, it may be the time to pick some of these up. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhh! I actually LOVED Cisneros’s memoir!! Some of the essays are just okay but the ones that hit HIT!!! Please lmk if u read El país bajo mi piel! It’s so worth it!
que lo que amiga! strapped in and readyyyyy
Totally with you on the not relying on translated fic simply to teach
I still feel like you should read a julia sanches translation. it ends up feeling like a new book
Hell yes to ernaux!
Wait I actually really like your DOA copy!
"its the filthiest book literally"😅
not you being the only one who could potentially make me interested in reading that white italian woman's book...you are powerful
Sayuka Murata whatever they're smoking; I don't want it! EARTHLINGS....I absolutely cannot because the ride that book took me on was WILD
lmao "she may or may not be in love with her cousin" scrim.
ughh i need to move shubeik lubeik up my tbr! gonna start crafting sept's tbr :)
pahahahaha zomg I do hope u get to read Ferrante!!! AND YESSS ADD SHUBEIK LUBEIK TO YOUR SEP TBR! I wanna discuss it with you!!!
and LOL @ sayaka murata
so many good suggestions here!! i’ve had strange weather in tokyo on my shelf for so long, you have me wanting to prioritize it!!
thank you, Cass!! I'm excited to watch your video!!!
Such a great video, I’m so inspired to read more women in translation. I really need to read Annie Ernaux!! And I have Minor Detail on my TBR as well!
thank you, Reba!! I hope u get to read Ernaux too!!! And MINOR DETAIL will punch u in the gut (but it's so worth it)!!
Great list!!
Thanks so much!!!
спасибо ❤ what a cool concept, I had never heard of this theme before
❤❤❤❤❤
<3
🖤💚 Gracias great video!

The video I’ve been waiting for!!!!!!
I’m SO excited for you to read the other Neapolitan books next Summer! Book 2 is 🔥🔥🔥
Earthlings f**d me up, I loved it 😂
I own Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop and need to get to it soon!
Earlier this year I read Parade, the companion (tiny!) book for Strange Weather in Tokyo, and it was lovely
Omg, I had no idea that STRANGE WEATHER IN TOKYO had a companion!!! Will have to read it v soon!!!!! and yess!! EARTHLINGS is next-level!! Can't thank u enough for creating this challenge <3
hey!! 👋 so hyped for this video ❤️
annie is a journaling queen - loved how you talked about her & her writing. i desperately need to pick up more by her!! i’ve been eyeing happening on my shelves…so maybe ill pick this one up soon
!! omg i didn’t know she paid an actor to lecture in her place wowowowow she’s so cool LOL
omg! i completely forgot about life ceremony! i need to pick up that collection
dying @ “yeah what’s wrong with a sweater made of hair….and then it made me feel really weird” 😂
lolol earthlings, what a freaking time
Ugh so many good recs!! I wanna read them all!!!
plz plz plz read THE POSSESSION!!!
I really appreciate this video especially since I'm actually participating in reading more WIT. Ferrante is an autobuy for me, I absolutely love her writing. I'll definitely be adding several of your recommendations and as a Latina, it was nice to see other languages because I automatically gravitate towards translated Spanish novels.
Aw, yes, I think so many of the WIT recs I see are by Latinas (which is awesome)!! Glad u could find ones in other languages! Thank u for watching :D
I love this video so much and you have such great recommendations. I realize my August TBR doesn’t have any women in translation books, BUT I’m going to add an Elena Ferrante this month becuase I have “The Days of Abandonment” (picked up after Kat’s recommendation!!!) and “My Brilliant Friend.” I truly just need to make it a habit to seek out books that I wouldn’t normally I pick up. “Happening” is something I definitely want to read, and “The Possession.” Actually all of your recommendations sound good!!!!!
Aww, yay! Hope u read an Ernaux or a Ferrante soon! Both THE POSSESSION and DAYS OF ABANDONMENT are short, so I'd start there! :D
YESSSSS IVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS VIDEO
i needddddd to read annie ernaux and im using ur little guide to get me started! i’ve been intimidated on where to start with her
OMG IVE NEVER SEEN THAT COVER OF DAYS OF ABANDONMENT ITS GORGEOUS WHAT DO U MEAN U DONT LIKE IT
Annie's soooo great! Espero que la leas pronto! And LOL u are the second person to tell me that you love that Days of Abandonment cover! It just doesn't do it for me -.- pero that makes me feel better!!
Also brb adding ALL of these to my to-be-read 😋
aw, yay! thx for watching! PLEASE lmk if u read any!!
You're so close to 1k 🎉
i'm curious to hear what you think about the Glynnis MacNicol, i read her memoir about turning 40 last year and was a bit mixed on it
I am so curious about MacNicol’s first memoir! I really enjoyed her new one! I like her writing style, and her book made me feel less afraid of aging 😂
i’ve been majorly using reading as a means of escape this summer!! always love seeing what common themes your reads have
Thank u, Cass! Escaping is the best 💨
A map of future ruins was a great non fiction this year!! Thought provoking yet approachable.❤ thank you!
I’m gonna have to check that one out!
Hii! Oye was a DNF for me, y sabes que me gusta el chisme 😂 I think it was the one-sided conversation style that it did not completely sold me on 🤷🏽♀️
Uh oh, now I’m scared to try it out again 😂
@@ivanainthecity ay, no! No te lleves de mi 🤣🤣
🖤💚 I just started following you on Instagram
Aww thank u!!!! 💜
Love hearing everyone’s picks for this tag, I’m happy you posted yours!! Amen to Autobiography of Malcolm X! It should be required reading for those of us in the US! Happy reading for the second half of the year!! You have such interesting reading goals, I love it!

it’s so interesting bc i wouldn’t have thought migrations would be so dramatic & that it would hook someone. so i am so excited to give it a read!!!
yess minor detail - every sentence really did feel so purposeful. so so good.
Migrations was surprisingly good
Agreed! Such a pleasant surprise!!!
I’ve started going to the library again and I’m enjoying it so much. I have 3 books from the library I need to read ❤
Libraries are the best!!! 3 is manageable!! I currently have 9 checked out :/
I had no idea Chanel Miller came out with a new book!! Thank you for talking about it!!
Aw, awesome! I hope you enjoy it. She is so talented/multi-faceted!
3:10 oh I absolutely love climate fiction. definitely recommend eleutheria by allegra hyde.
Thank you! I will be checking that one out!!!!
Upstream is one of my favorite essay collections that I've read. I'm doing a reread of it in August 🤍
Ooooh, that makes me so excited to finish it! Are you gonna vlog about it? :D
@@ivanainthecity oh I'm sure I will! I need to do a full review on it or something 🫶🏼

ahhh The Husbands! i've been hearing so many good things about it and i need to pick it up! also, loved the little postcard from peru and costa rica! what a dream! <3
The Husbands is such a good time :))
Ask Kats Field Notes about the autobiography of Malcolm X.
Sociopath sounds so interesting! Those mountains in Peru look like such an intense hike!! Next in Fashion might be my next reality show watch!!
Lmk if u pick Sociopath up! Can’t recommend it enough on audio!
My good friend and neighbor is from Peru and she’s always showing me and telling me such wonderful things about it. Glad you had an awesome time. The Costa Rica trip also sounded amazing.
Perú and Costa Rica were so beautiful! Thx so much for watching 😊
when i was reading funny story and julia was introduced immediately i thought ‘oh yeah after julia whelan’ 😅
pahahahah glad I wasn't the only one who thought that!!!
