All of the long time followers of Dr K will be reminded by this video of Dr K's very first lesson. If you are coming to this channel for the first time, buckle your seatbelts for the ride of your life. This is by far the best series of You Tube piano lessons that have ever been or will ever be.

Just watched one of your subs play in a shopping centre and blew the roof out. He said he learned it all at this site. My dad played boogie woogie and I would love to follow the tradition. I already have years of that beat in my head and dad always played in C and I sang along. Great stuff, I’m Subbed and can’t wait to start. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

    Dr K,
This channel is just what I have been looking for! Finally a piano player on RUclips who is willing to take time to actually teach! I have wanted to play in this style for years and your channel hits the musical spot.
However, I am finding this difficult to get both hands together. When I add the right hand, the rhythm on the left changes. I have been practising this lesson for about two months but I'm still struggling. Any tips on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks again
    John

Dr K, I'm a true newbie when it comes to the piano and boogie woogie ( I play blues bass guitar so It gives me some foundation when comes to the rhythm and understanding of the 12 bar format) I'm truly excited about this seres of lessons. I was looking on the website and couldn't find the transcripts for these lessons

I took delivery of a keyboard yesterday and I've never played any instrument ever before.
I spent a couple of hours practicing this chop and I'm really struggling.
Is this for complete newbies, or just newbies to boogie woogie? Should I be taking more basic lessons considering I've never touched a piano until about 12 hours ago?

Personally when I started playing the piano, I didnt started straight up with boogie woogie. I needed some basic knowledge about chords, rhythmic, music theory (scales) etc. Search for "music theory for complete beginners" and watch it, then go ahead, learn some easy pop songs on youtube, and try to play them without mistakes. By learning easy songs, you automaticly learn the basics of a piano. Someday you will realize that you are making progress, and you have the knowledge about chords.. so you can improvise a bit with chords, so that it doesn't sounds bad anymore. When you archieved this, go ahead learning boogie woogie. Start with the typical chop, like here in the video.. and learn the blues scale in your preferred key, so that you could play it without stress and effort. Add the chop to the blues scale in the same time and voila you got a boogie woogie already. Then you can go further ofc and learning how to improvise within the blues scale etc. (btw when the chop is too difficult at the beginning, just keep your fingers on the C and G key without moving your thumb to the A key.. just learn the typical swing rythm.. ) I could keep going explaining, but I dont wanna write a whole essay :D The most important thing is that you understand, You can't learn these things within one week. Just learn and learn even if its frustrating and you wanna stop.. Just be patient and keep perseverance, thats the magical ingredient. A half year ago, I would never thought that now I can play a fully improvised boogie woogie ^^ (my parents and friends are soo astonished when I play, but personally I think that Im still not good. Thats another annoying thing :D)

Yeah so basically, some people need basics before they start with boogie woogie and others dont.. so we cant know if this is for complete piano newbies or boogie newbies.

Even the chop left hand is so hard to synchronize with a free styling left hand! Just have to keep plugging away at it!

HI, The practice of this chop works fine for me. But I am confused, cause I dont know How fast I have to set the metronome. Is one chop one beat of the metronome? Or is each keyboard stroke A metronome beat. I find this important to know to be able not to Lose the swing ( the swung). an answer is much appriciated. Thanks
