      Same no complaints. Do a ton of towing all year long and still running perfectly. Have even taken my 2,200 lb trailer loaded with trash, through wet muddy terrain. 👌🏾

  • @dakrt82
    @dakrt82 10 лет назад +21

    Just because they're not running it through a 3 foot deep mud hole doesn't mean it's not off roading. This is just a basic test of what a stock truck with stock tires can do off road.

    • @300bhpton
      @300bhpton 10 лет назад +1

      In the UK we have roads called 'green lanes', these are often more off road than this trail, yet are still part of the highways network in the UK. This is NOT an off road test!

    • @mindman1234
      @mindman1234 10 лет назад +1

      300bhpton i agree.. this seems like a simple lake road too me

    • @300bhpton
      @300bhpton 10 лет назад +3

      But it doesn't show what a stock truck on stock tyres can do, because there is nothing remotely challenging. A 2wd car on normal road tyres could just have easily coped with that terrain.

      I’d like to see these trucks actually get tested, this channel isn’t very good at doing that though.

    Another point to mention about the Ram, is that they can fit 33inch mud tires straight from the factory. For a chevy to fit them it has to have a 2inch leveling kit and some plastic trimming just to make them not rub. Also, when lifted they can run 37's where as chevy can barely stuff 35's

    • @pwiles88
      @pwiles88 10 лет назад

      Not true I put 33 on my 09 Silverado 1500 never rubbed

      Qwerty I had a 2012 z71. I think I would know. I had 33's and even with a 2 inch level they rubbed on bumps when I turned. I had to trim the valence for them to keep from rubbing.

      A ram comes with a 275/65R20 from factory which is a 34.1" tall tire so fitting a 33x12.50R20 Is a piece of cake. But I went on and leveled it cause my hammerhead bumper replacement weighed down the front end a lot so I went with 3" leveling blocks and I have no rub or scrub

      Yeah I bet . A guy on vacation with his family here in Colorado basically said the same thing when he saw me come off a trail with my Tahoe. Not a Jeep trail or anything but not a trail for a Sienna. About 20 mins later he comes walking up... later we find out his oil pan got ripped right off the engine. Lovely tow fee as well to get his van off the trail.

      This is a Sport. No recovery points, no skid plating, no lockers, 20" rims and low profile street tires. It's basically a 395hp shopping cart. This trail is about what it's intended for; rutted out dirt roads to the cabin, camp site, or the job site, not much more. It's not a purpose built off road truck.

    The Fast Lane Truck, I have a 2015 Ram 1500 SLT with the 5.7 Hemi..... Please feel free to take it for a REAL off road spin like I have. Just needed to replace the stock crap tires with KO2's.... Its fantastic in deep mud and snow, hill climbing, you name it. Please give the SLT 4x4 a chance and take it up Gold Mine Hill!!!

    Nice review, I just bought this same truck only in sport model. No this review is not rock crawling but its more then most people will do with a stock 4x4 truck. And honestly if you want to do more hard core, I would get a Jeep.

    Hey guys, get a RAM Outdoorsman with 17" rims (preferably with real A/T tires, not Goodyears) and aim that thing off road. The only problem is deciding when you've had enough fun and turn to go home.

    I should make a remake of this. Something more off-road. Instead of little puddles and not even that much snow. In the winter where i live, it snows non-stop. Where you got to make your own tracks on the actual road. Sometimes theres about a foot of snow where i live on the road.

    Somehow your videos make me smile each time I watch them :D, that's really nice.
    By the way - some of the RAMs (every Laramie for example) have the Auto 4x4 mode which pretty much is an AWD system.

    If you can get your truck up our route (you can't) then I would agree with you. We had to pull in the mirrors of the Ram and, even then, we were brushing both sides of the path. Remember: we're not permitted to destroy the vehicles we review.

  • @xebek
    @xebek 11 лет назад

    They weren't necessarily complaining. They stated the fact that it is a large vehicle... which it is. They mentioned they had to fold the mirrors on some of the more narrow passes. What's wrong with mentioning that fact? Overall it was a very positive review of the RAM.

    usually a 4x4 that has a low-range doesn't have a center differential, just a solid transfer case. the "auto" program engages the front drive shafts by linking them to the front differential. at least that's how my Avalanche works (uses a fork to engage a gear-set inside the front diff - which is in addition to engaging the front prop shaft in the central transfer case)

    We were on a family hiking trip with my dad driving his 2011 ram 1500 2wd up a trail very similar to this one nothing difficult but at the very top we found a Prius parked at the trailhead. My point is that a Prius would most defininently make it up this trail may scrape but wouldn't get stuck and would still make it.

    I believe that it locks the central differential so it would be useful when off roading. then you have full time 4x4, not only when the car realizes that wheels are spinning. It will just be even more effective.

    Being a 13 year old i notice alot of things and i was watching this and i noticed that when you were going up a hill you let out air to get better traction witch is good, but dont let too much because if you go to fast and your tire doesnt have enough air you could pop your tire (very unlikley) or damage your rims. so be careful letting out air of your tires.

  • @rangerover06sc
    @rangerover06sc 11 лет назад

    Not always, just look at the Jeep Grand Cherokees, the Toyota Land Cruisers, the Land Rover Discoverys. They all use computers to assist there off road capabilities, and have been doing so for over a decade. Traction control can react the wheel slipping fastest and more effectively then most limited slips. The thing is though they have traction control systems that are designed for off roading and nowadays can adapt to different sufface conditions as well as a proper 4wds due to center locks.

    A Jeep guy I know swears that coils are (usually) more durable, easier to modify and last much longer than leafs. From what I've seen, leaf springs may be on their way out of 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. Only time will tell. Thanks for watching!

    ive taken my ram into some way serious mud and actually got stuck due to traction control being on and in 2wd the mud was up to my axles and i was dead stuck. popped it into 4high t/c off and gunned it. took some while to get out but for having 3.55 gears and open diff its fuckin amazing still and having all terain tires made a huge difference than having summer street tires

  • @justinneill5003

    I see you referenced the Range Rover, which together with its utilitarian cousin the Land Rover Defender is a world beater off road. Here in the Alps, with winter tyres fitted, mine is literally unstoppable on steep snowy tracks, and the Hill Descent Control is something else. It takes some nerve the first time descending a steep slippery hill when you take your feet off all the pedals, but you can sense the car feeling its way down, with the drive, braking and ABS all working constantly to deliver what each wheel needs at any moment in time. By the way, do those older simpler 4WD set ups all have a manually operated Diff Lock as well? I also have a Toyota Land Cruiser which has AWD but in a simpler form, and it has hi-lo box and diff lock. You’re right about one thing, that technology on the RR is only good when it actually works!

  • @JimF1981
    @JimF1981 11 лет назад

    The Raptor also has locking front and rear diffs okay front diff the rear is electronic but it is also good at rock crawling as well as dessert running. Awesome pickup.

    Subaru's AWD works differently than the GMC's AWD system. Subaru's system is more like other peoples "Full Time 4WD," in that power is always being sent to the front and the rear. The only reaction it has to make is to shift more or less to the front or rear.

    How do you think this would do with the Pentastar V6 with 4WD? I know you didn't have access to it, but Roman went to the press release. I know the HEMI has as Nathan would say CAHONES. Will the 3.6L Pentastar V6 Ram 1500 be as effective? It's been a winner Pentastar that's with the other Chrysler vehicles, especially with the 200 and 300. Pretty good video. On the 4x4 though, you could of went in more detail. AWD is for the street, rainy street, icy streets, ect. Not for offroading. But 4x4 is for offroading, rock crawling, mudding, ect. That's why when y'all take the AWD vehicles offroad they have problems, they are not meant to do that. 4x4 are made to do that, it's not old technology, it's what works for offroading so they don't need to change it with stupid computers. Too many computers just mess things up.

    Here's my question this one is for Nathan im thinking of buying a Ram or eather a Silverado obviously in the 1500 the 4wd system in the chevy is offered in two different systems manual 4wd with shifter or electronically like in the Ram my question is which is the best ??

      Pretty much all 4x4 vehicles today have a axle/hub disconnect system. So the front axle/diff doesn't spin while the tires move in 2wd to save gas and cause less wear. With a electric switch/button 4x4 system it has to engage the transfer case and front axle via electric power or vacuum. With a manual floor shifter you manually engage the transfer case, but the front axle still engages via electric power or vacuum. I prefer a manual floor shifter because at least I know the transfer case will always engage when I need to, however the front axle may not. The only truck in the US that doesn't suffer this is the Super Duty since it has a manual floor shifter and manual locking hubs, so as long as you can physically move the levers you have 4x4.

    Not sure why people are talking about Raptor and Ramrunner here, but the Ramrunner is significantly more expensive than a Raptor and not a good daily driver and the Raptor is far more than a desert runner, if you pay any attention to off-road comparison tests--it has tested second only to the Wrangler for all terrain off-roading, and that, only due to its large size. But rock crawling, snow, mud and mountain trails, the Raptor has proven itself more than capable in numerous third party tests. Just look around RUclips, don't take my word for it. And it has definitely placed AHEAD of the PowerWagon in offroading over uneven terrain like in this video above, and worse.
