Yes it is an issue that he wasn’t certified but even then parachutes don’t always happen. You’re always at risk skydiving, you’re relying on a parachute that doesn’t always open.
@@___XY____________0it appears the main parachute came out but didn’t deploy properly for whatever reason (defective or not packed properly), so the question is if the instructor had an emergency parachute, and if so, did he try to deploy it, and if so, why didn’t it deploy properly. @@oaktree1628 Not sure, I haven’t heard of results either, but it’s not uncommon for parachutes to have trouble opening or deploying when skydiving, it’s stupid to use them because now you’re putting your life at a much higher risk.

The saddest thing about this is that the problem they encountered was an easy fix and skydiving 101. If your main chute fails to deploy, you cut it away and ditch it before deploying the reserve. Yong Kwon failed to do that, and deployed the reserve into the main where they both became entangled and rendered inoperable.

Certified Instructors die all the time at Skydiving so it really doesn’t matter they would have died even if he was certified. Parachutes malfunction all the time which is the real issue here.
Seems like “malfunctioning “ happens when things are not done properly. I understand that if a parachute is not packed properly, or if something unusual happens to the container that it is in, it might not deploy properly. When I say something unusual, a friend who skydives once told me a story one time when his parachute didn’t deploy properly because during the jump someone accidentally kicked him in the chest or back, which caused a malfunction in the parachute, so he had to pull the emergency parachute.
