The nerfs really hurt the sub play on most of the subs. The 4501's underwater speed is it's saving grace. I used to enjoy play subs but not anymore. The arming range of the torps now is crazy. The amount of sub spotting and ASW along with the arming range has pretty well ruined them for me. Even in game as a surface ship, I laugh when people get mad there's a sub. Just easy points anymore. I've had subs players get more than a little upset with me in chat for blowing them up in my DD. Once I'm within 3k they're dead and can't do anything to protect themselves anymore. Now if a come a across a super uni like you, I'm sure it wouldn't be so easy but luckily there's very few of those around. Glad you're healing up and feeling better. Take care of yourself, pneumonia can be really bad.

If i may add, 4501 has the worst ping reload, but the upside is that ping speed is faster than most subs, and it has wider ping width, making it easier to double ping every time. Bear in mind that double ping lasts longer and makes homing torpedos turn faster. Another upside is the battery recharge is superb and the best among this class, that's why it works well with it underwater speed because it can get you to places much faster and your battery recharges faster too (coupled with the captain skill that boosts recharge. You featured this two hit pings in pne of your sub guide videos a year ago. That is why even on a 90 degree angle torps can turn easily. Try a 90 degree torp launch on a single ping compared to double ping and you will see what i mean
Another tip i would like to add is the proper use of hydrophone. I use hydrophone before surfacing to check for enemy ships nearby, i also hydrophone when closing islands to plan my route and to reveal camping hydro ships. I also hydrophone if im under hydro/radar to plan my escape and lastly i hydrophone to pre launch torps on enemy position then i will close the gap to outspot them and ping. I often catch enemy subs/dds off guard with this trick

Torpedo Tubes 1 (the extra speed is great for the big detection range so enemies have less time to react) . Propulsion Mod 1 . Ship Consumables 1 . Dive Capacity 2 . Capt. Skills : 1 - Liquidator . Priority Target 2 - Consumable Enhancements 3 - Sonarman . Consumable Specialist . Watchful 4 - Sonarman expert . Improved Battery Efficiency My idea for the build is to stay under for as long as possible, and only ping once (40s long single ping) if i see my target moving out of the way of my prediction or when he's running away. Double ping is still good but only for light cruisers or DD's. Just trying to be undetected as much as possible. With the healing flag you get back 4k health. Great vid btw!

I'd love to know if this build is actually good, running under enemy ships is allot of fun and definitely a fast way of getting away, I've done it ever since i played subs so around a year, the tension you might get spotted and die instantly under some ships is also fun
I don't love the captain build. This boat really needs the extra Damage Con & heal. The battery on it is super strong, don't really need that capt. skill

Having played the U-4501, I mount the DD smoke signal as it adds 15% battery life. Compared to the Gato, the 4501 is brilliant.

I also think it depends on how you play it. I have a different built as well more of a utility and sub hunter. The 4501 is great for hunting subs too
