Motorcycle Security Systems - What you have to know?
In this video I am going to talk about popular locks on the market and will give you 8 very useful tips how to protect your motorcycle.
We love our motorcycles, it doesn't matter how much they cost. Our worst nightmare is to find out that the bike is stolen. I don’t want even to think about it. Let see what we can do to prevent this happens.
The first barrier against thieves is your ignition key system. It doesn’t matter how difficult is to unlock it, how many million combinations the key has or what kind of profile it is, it will be broken in just few seconds. They will use a special tool, known as “breaker”. It is a hard peace of steel, imitate the shape of your key. They insert it in the ignition and with the help of small wrench rotate it to the right. First they will unlock the forks and then will start your motorcycle, so simple, no more than 10 seconds. If you have new bike, build after 2000, you might have immobilizer system. This system won’t let the engine start unless is made with the original key. That is nice, so now you can sleep well. Not really! First of all, if you have expensive bike like BMW 1000 RR or Ducati, you have to know that thieves have s special software to start your engine without the key. Second it is a bike, it is not a car. It could be easy push out of your garage or even loaded in a van. You have to think for some kind of hardware to protect your motorcycle.

Park your bike in the worst area you can find. Leave it unlocked and keys in ignition. Then hide closeby with a crowbar and wait 10 minutes to eliminate all the scum moving in on your bike. Then go get dinner, leaving pile of wounded bodies next to your bike as deterant.
Amen brother
Then wait to be attested by the police for multiple assaults!
Yeah or use double 0 buckshot
you just made my day ahaahaha
Seems legit
I remove my engine after every ride and store it in my attic
iveco shop I bet they would be willing to steal even a nice, empty frame. Haha
iveco shop what the hell?
iveco shop 🤣 this guy
I used to do that on my Suzuki...but I once forget where I put the engine, and it took me 2 months to find it...in the BASEMENT..!! Who woulda figured.?
Made my day ;-D 😂
lmao with the tent tip xD imagine you're sleeping peacefully and suddenly the whole tent is being dragged with you inside ^^ what a way to wake up
You'll wake up long before the tent starts moving, hahaha - a tent's rope is extremely sensitive; you'd feel the slightest touch on it - I know it from experience :)))
@@DobruchT tie it to your dk !
Came to get ideas to secure my motorcycle, left with ideas in how to steal bikes >_
Excellent vid, chap clearly knows something about stealing bikes... best practical advice I've seen.
Good video!
I use an ABUS Lock with an alarm system and a heavy Hartmann chain. I have an old motorbike, I am more afraid they will cut the bike so they can steal the lock and the chain. ;)
Hahaha, good point, thank you for watching!
Joe Do hahahaga.. hilarious
LOL
Lmfaooo same
HAHHAAHHAAAHHAHAHAAHA
My motorcycle got stolen 5 days ago and i swear to god my next bike will be more difficult to steal than a bank
Sorry to hear that.
Hear hear, mine was stolen 3 weeks ago. Looking for better ways to protect now.
@@kim_yong_un here is what i did i park mine now inside the garage its got a tracker and an alarm two disk breaks with alarm and a New York carbine lock with a 5 foot chain and security cameras its not even an expensive bike its just a Gsx s750 2015 can it still be stolen yes is it worth the effort for any thief no
@@xwhels I have a Versys X300 so the thief just left the bike, wrote me a note and some spare change!
i use a 20 level security chain and 2 disc locks, one has the alarm. i keep a good heavy cover over it that is wire secured and i keep it in a garage. ...oh yeah,,,,i have insurance.
My bike was stolen last night. Wish I had watched this earlier... lots of things I would have done different.
Hide a old smartphone with SIM in your bike and install a motion sensing app
When the phone feels that the bike is moving it will automatically call you !
Charging it ?
Yes!
Another tip that may be a bit far fetched but is important is to not ''advertise'' your motorcycle especially in your neighborhood. Living in a big city means that if somebody spots your motorcycle somewhere 10km away from your home unless they follow you around, you should consider yourself safe. Most of the thefts are done by people that live very close to you and spot your motorcycle everyday and can learn about your habits. As for ''public expositon'' dont park your motorcycle in places with few people but neither park it infront of a night-club and have it photographed among with the lady at the entrance and posted in fb to advertise the club (sounds stupid but i have seen many people do so where i live...). Dont park or show-up with your bike in parts of your neighborhood where scum like the ones that get involved in thefts and such stuff gather. Dont post pictures on fb or make them only visible to a very small group of trustful people. Dont talk big about your motorcycle unless you intent to sell it. It seems stupid but you know what your bike can do and that should suffice.
Actually some good advice there... "Social Media" has become an effective tool for thieves! "Google Maps" show what people have in their backyards, and possible 'routes' to a house that would be out of sight of neighbors, and people post Vacation Pictures...telling everyone they are NOT at home for the next 10 days...and so on.
And the people in front of a club -- including the 'Bouncer' -- don't give 2 cents about your bike...and will be more likely to LAUGH while it is being loaded into a trailer than to call Police...
Ye thats why you gotta be friends with people who steal bikes so they dont steal yours
Coffee X Machina so you saying you gotta leave earth
I agree with 99% of your points. The other 1% is that 99% of thieves are not creative. They look for the easiest take and like you say are "lazy", that's why they are thieves. Anything to simply "slow them down" will make them look elsewhere in most cases. I'm lucky to now live in a rural area in the states with next to no crime. I always use the tent fly rope method and thought I was the only one...I've had Elk wake me by tripping over my tent ropes before. LOL.
Correct. I agree with you. Thank you for watching!
I don't think thieves are bringing wet towels either, but nice to know.
@Sami there's always one of these "wtf" comments on yt videos haha
And the best tip:
leave your bike in top gear.
The time it takes to get it to neutral might make all the difference
It might help, but keep in mind that the thieves are bikers, so it's not going to slow down much.
you guys seriously think they going to drive off? 2-3 dudes throw it in a Truck in 30 secs tops.
they will just pull the clutch or tie the clutch lever with something
great video ;)
I have a 2005 DL1000 Cstrom dirty, sctratched, oily chain and some drips of oil under the engine. I don't even need to insure it. I can sleep or have a beer with my firends in peace.
It may not be a flashy bike and attracts attention but It's always there, always starts, no parts missing and it brings me on the pavement and in any trails... basically everywhere I want. Like my dog, iut's not a show dog sometimes chews my shoe but it's faithfull and stand by me.
My wife can say the same about me lollll
Vstrom not Cstrom ;)
So you sometimes chew your wife's shoe?
pretty much proven people don't react to alarms going off anyway they don't want to get involved and will keep going. it's how society has become now
True...but *I* will react to the alarm! If I am in the restaurant and hear the alarm then I WILL React!
And if I am further away, at least it will "put eyes on the bike" and maybe someone will get some cell phone video or something, and call 911.
Not every thief is a seasoned and well-equipped 'professional'...so it may scare off the amateur or 'beginner'...
they just move faster
stubbk3 yes, I agree but an alarm is more about bringing attention to the thief than someone stopping them. One thing a thief doesn't like is drawing attention to themselves. Its much easier to just go elsewhere than risk the attention an alarm brings to the thief. Its the fear that someone will intervene that the thief is worried about.
MortimerEsq I'm sick and tired of advising people to invest in a decent GPS tracking device. It wont stop your bike from being stolen but it will tell you where it is, seconds after its been stolen. Even though I give this advice time and time again people still insist on just trying to purchase the most expensive lock. NEWSFLASH= No lock can prevent theft, no matter what claim the seller makes. But a GPS tracker will get your bike back from the scumbag who stole it. Plus you have the added bonus of going to collect it with your homies and introducing the thief to your baseball bats....And anyway, What good is a £150 lock going to do you if, said scumbag and his mates decide to mug you and take the bike? Answer=No good at all. However, A tracking device hidden inside the frame of your bike, is going to do a lot more good than any lock ever will. And it will send the thief to jail for 5 years for a violent street robbery. So, it's a win win situation all round.
well the thief will think again once the 120db alarm goes off right next to his ears

Or you can bring it into the house like i do, since my first bike got stolen.I park it in the living room :)
GnarlyMan 2T hell yeah my bike got stolen five days ago i will take it inside the apartment fuck every one else
....If thieves are in your driveway this week, they'll be in your house next week!!!.... BUY A SHOTGUN!!!...
my wife would kill me lol
but some people dont live in a house.
My thinking too 😸😸
Something I appreciate about your channel is that you do travel, and you will answer these questions about at home as well as away from home.
It seems like there are so many people who will shrug when asked what to do at a hotel, even just at the store. They basically expect their bike to be stolen, to have to file with insurance, and use that to replace the motorcycle. They just take it for granted. And so many people only ever ride for pleasure, either trailering the bike to where they begin riding, or just ride. And they'll do a loop, then go back to where they started, and go home.
All of that ignores camping, hotels, going to work, stopping for a meal, a stop at the store, whatever, which happens for many people much more often than going on long tours. However, securing a bike as if one is touring means the motorcycle is less likely to be disappeared unexpectedly.
Hi, ich lache mich manchmal kaputt über Deinen trockenen Humor!!! Super gemacht, mein Freund!!! Tommy aus München
Danke!
My physical security includes a hardened chain covered in a segmented, articulated s.s. shroud to make it more difficult to cut through & a keyed, case hardened padlock with a hardened sleeve on the hasp used as a disclock. I made myself get used to using the disclock every time I parked, even in my own garage, so that it is now 2nd nature.
Thank you, Pavlin, for all of your help to us riders. Keep it up, my friend.
In my Country even if you park it in your bedroom the bad guys will come for it when they want bcos its an inside job. Someone close to you or someone in your neighborhood know all about you and your bike. As a mechanic who always lock every bike in my shop, the bad guys broke in and couldn't cut the heavy duty chain but they remove the tires leaving it in the chain and took the bikes without the tires. My solution now is pay security to watch over my shop at night. Oh by the way i also bought a shotgun, cant wait to avenge my lost motorcycles
As I said, nothing is 100% secure...
i had 100cc bike once around 2010 i parked it outside my flat in karachi i had this big heavy chain which was attached my front wheel the thief simply remove the wheel and took the bike. your message remind of mine hahah as pavlin says `Nothing is 100% Secure`
That's depressing. In NZ it's so rare that the entire country goes on high alert when it happens. Going to be a step up in security when I'm touring.
Excellent tips! I have been looking for a way to secure the bike on trips and I will get a disc lock like you do.
Thank you for watching! Ride safe!
Good tips. If you use a disc lock remember to put a rubber bad or a note on your dash. You do not want to drive off with it on :)
Very good point on the cover as well, but remember to keep it plain black.. My friend bought a KTM 1290 Super duke, "the Beast" and he got a cover in bright orange with that name over it. Did it get stolen? Thieves love it when you tell them what's underneath.
Best solution I have seen is a anchor in the concrete with a very shiny galvanized chain and lock running through the rear and the frame.
Thank you again for watching and comment it, very good points!
Thanks for the information.
Just remember when parking on the sidewalk or at a shops entrance, Dont block peoples path's. Shopkeepers will get annoyed and people will also bump against your motorcycle
Yes, of course. Thank you for watching!
One more tip.....if you are travelling in a group.....lock the bikes together
Yes, this is also very nice advice, thank you!
Yes...my cable is long enough to connect with another bike, and I do this quite often...especially when riding with my Brother...one more step to 'slow them down'. Not very many "crews" have enough folks to carry TWO motorcycles...
And if we hear the alarm...we are BOTH legally armed! [as in Tip #9 from Cristian Cepeda..]
From my research it seems thieves hate big U-Locks the most. So that's what I got. Along with a wheel clamp and a brake lever lock (I use this when I'm roving). I love the idea of a personal alarm having a pin that gets pulled out should the bike be moved by thieves. Very useful and unexpected if done discretely, I'll look into that. Thanks again!
Actually, I happen to live in the first floor with by bedroom window facing the lamp post where my gorgeous is strapped ! Now I’m practicing one eye open sleep
Thank you so much for the tips !
Greetings from Kuala Lumpur!
An excellent video with many points I had never considered before. What continues to impress me about your videos is how well-informed you are
Thanks Ron! It cost me a lot of time and efforts to learn all of that. I hope that it will be useful!
The last tip is " Think as a thief." the best one i like... :D
Good points and showing how these devices can be defeated. You've changed what I was going to take and use for security this spring in Europe and Africa.
My bike was stolen out of the parking garage of my apartment building. 3 guys. 1 patrolling the garage while the others worked on the bike. took them all of 25 seconds to cut the lock with a battery grinder and maybe 20 seconds to break the steering lock. In and out within 6 minutes. Now I'm very hesitant to buy a new bike bcs they'll likely come and steal it again in 2 weeks.. Very interested in how I can make my bike more secure. Thx for the video
Unfortunately this things are happens. The best solution in your case is to install alarm system in the garage, not on the bike. I hope this will help to keep the thieves away from your bike. Thanks for watching!
I'd buy a beautiful motorcycle and camp near it at night with a shotgun. Nobody fucks with my motorcycle.
Best security tips on YT. Great work.
Thumbs up 👍
Very good tips / Some I didn't know
Thanks for sharing
Peace
thanks for the amazing tipps! I have a disc lock gonna use in a smart way now
You are welcome again! Thank you for watching!
I appreciate you taking the time to make this video ! Most of what I see, along these lines & most anything these days ! People make video's that will make them money. Cut & dry. Occassionally, someone like yourself, really cares as well as has a passion & knows how awful it is to have what most of us see as out prized possetion (I do !) Here one night, gone the next a.m. You know the business, know & see what the current theft trends are & seeing that wet towel really opened my eyes ! Surprisingly; and I could be wrong, but I believe Europe has a higher motorcycle theft rate than the States ? Believe it or not; We all know just like when a new model bike comes out, every reputable tuner spends a ton of time figuring out how to gain entry & override /reprograhm certain e.c.u. functions, the same (figuratively speaking; I respect ANYONE making an honest living & if it so happens they work to make by bike perform better, they are a plus for me & society!) That the thieves are always coming up w/new techniques to defeat the technology & steal our bikes ! I'm certain now a days w/the internet especially, what use to be the trend was some method of theft (I'm guessing has to start somewhere, right?) & took time to catch on, travel & progress (for lack of better term!) Granted, not much time. Now, It seem's once someone post's something of how they defeated the "Newest & Best" product out (all I can picture was the first time I saw a pen used to open an "unpickable" cylindrical lock) theft & ways to pry this, pick that, bump this etc. Now spreads overnight ! One thing I have learned & I feel you touched on it, is effective equipment, no one method is a "sleep easy" solution. The harder it's made to steal, or the more we can discourage them & not be a "target" the more likely they will move on to a bike with less, or no aftermarket anti-theft devices. Most people say if a determined professional thief (which I believe is maybe 5-10% of them) Want's the bike, short of 24 hr. Armed guards under lock, key & in a safe, they will most likely get it ! I personally feel that the cover & not leaving exactly what you have for theft prevention in plain sight works in out favor. Doesen't let them prepare & plan ahead. I like my bikes secured to a stationary object whenever possible. Their are some quality (imo & expirience) not to expensive anchors on the market I like. Quality disc lock, quality, well researched, tried & tested for anything I use ! A 2 way pager is a must for me. If & when it goes off, I NEVER just run outside as I'm told people looking to steal it will find ways to test your response. Be it giving a neighborhood kid $5 to set it off etc. & have multiple camera's positioned where I park & store my main ride. I try not to stick to any noticeable patterns & intentionally, vary my routine & movements (appearance wise; as far as procedure for securing it, I ALWAYS utilize the plan I made & all the devices. No matter how tired I am, because Murphy has a way of showing that 1 time I get lazy ! Also really like tying a rope if your in a tent or something ! Just liked the video & maybe my experiences & thoughts can help someone not have to deal with a situation NONE of us want too ! TY , Again. -Brian
Thanks for watching and for this long commend Brian! As I said in the video nothing is 100% secure, but we have to make as difficult as possible by using different options. Check this as well: ruclips.net/video/EBtoIM3nzfs/видео.html
WOW!! Thank you!! Your instructional video is worth a MILLION BUCKS!!
Great tips! Thanks. Greetings from Panamá 🇵🇦
I have an Almax chain which can't be manually bolt cropped, although it can be cut through, obviously.
Helpful video.
It will take a lot longer to cut than any other chain. And it's going to make a lot of noise doing it.That, and the alarm going off,is going to get you're attention.
Great video . It's real problem today with so many bikes being stolen you just can't trust anyone anymore. This applies to helmets ,gloves, gps units. Don't leave them on your bike unattended anytime. Opportunists thieves are everywhere .
I love your practical, down to earth and common sense approach. I have learned so much in the short time I have owned my KLR650 Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks ..very helpful
Good tips pal
"Lock Placement" can be pretty effective. As you say, all we can really do is "slow them down"...and hopefully that will create too much risk for them. So turning the disc lock inward is very good, and I also place it on the rear in a spot between my brake caliper and where it comes close to the swing-arm. On my personal bike, I have a similar situation in front between the caliper and front fork. I am also authorized to park in 'Handicap Parking' [artificial hip, fractured lumbar, and artificial knee] so I back in and place a heavy cable around the sign post and the rear of the bike. [frame, if I can get close enough] And both of my disc locks have alarms...and I have a GPS Tracker embedded on the bike in a spot that they would never see it.
Admittedly, if I am just stopping for lunch, I only use the rear disc lock with alarm activated. I figure that will slow them down enough for me to get there and put a stop to it all. If I am leaving the bike 'alone' for a while, I add the other devices.
Thank you very much for your tips sir! was very useful!
Great tips! I always believe that when travelling the best you can do is park in a public place and use a disk lock device that will make it a challenge for the thief and encourage him to move on..to an easier target. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, this is exactly what I do as well. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this video!!!!
thanks for sharing the great tips.😊
thanks for sharing. great video
Wow, GREAT TIPS!!! Thank you!
Thanks for making this video. There are some very good tips in it.
And always park your bike next to a more expensive (and/or less secured) motorcycle! ;)
Thank you for the nice tips!
Аз не гледам на мен да ми е добре, а на Вуте да му е зле.
Казах го изцяло в кръга на шегата. Иначе изгледах с интерес видеото!
Best advice I've heard on the subject. Thank you.
You are welcome anytime!
Great tips! Thanks for the many useful video's you make
Very useful tips, thank you
I think you said everything what we should know. Thanks a lot.
I bought disc-lock with alarm and thinking about some more protections ;-)
Chain with disc lock is maybe the best protection. Thanks for watching!
I traveled across India north south east west ,four times on Ninja 250cc,Honda 250cc and RE enfiled 500cc, they were almost new and very attractive as well each time I traveled.
I cared less about my bike being stolen etc., but what I did was that I got in to hotels ,lodges etc., where there was safe parking.
When there was no such space, the hotel managers took initiative and kept the bike after night 10 pm at a different place like near the hotel 's kitchen window etc., because any bike theft in nearby hotel will be taken very seriously by police in India.
While on the go, I always parked the bike right in the front of the hotel and I always took my seat right behind window so that all the while I took my lunch ,dinner etc., I was watching my bike. And in hotels ,wayside motels when I stopped . I took care such a facility is there . Otherwise I just moved on. It was because to steal a bike from right in front of bar takes the thief only two minutes or at most three minutes !! you can watch youtube videos of bikes being stolen in India yourself .
I am using only a break lever lock because if you are absent minded like me , your disc lock will break your bike disc for sure.
I think fixing an alarm inside the engine ,under the seat and the loud speakers back and forth of the bike would be very good deterrent for thieves.
I am going to fix this ( you need the services of professional electrician to fix these types) before my next journey.
Get an alarmed disc lock, you wont forget to unlock that.As soon as you sit on the bike,it will go off.
thanx for all the info will put it to great use well done
I had a motorbike stolen in 1994. It was parked inside my locked garage with my car. The bike was on steering lock and would have to be lifted over the car to get it out unless you moved the car first. This was exactly what they did and at 3:20AM I ran down to see a utility truck with my bike on the back heading into the night. The point is if someone wants something they will take it regardless of how you try to make it a less attractive option to them. Always be insured and park wisely.
Nothing is 100% secure.
Thank you for the tips!
Thank you.
Much APPRECIATED.
Very Well Done.
Definitely Helpful Thanks !
The tent thing was the tip I have never heard of. Easy, no cost and effective. Thanks man. Also I have not find a video from you about motorcycle tires? Maybe soon :)
Very handy tips .. thanks.
thanks for the advice
Thanks!
Thanks. This is really good advice. I have been worried about how to secure on a trip and still be lightweight, and it also demonstrated that the way I store now at home, is worthless. Upgrading immediately. The hard part so far is finding fitment information to see if it will fit my disc. I cannot find online, so I guess I need to measure the holes on my disc and make an educated guess.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the tips !
great tips thank you for sharing
Great information, Pavlin....Thank you!
You are welcome again!
The best protection is to bring the bike inside with you. That's what I do.
mrcaptaincrazy Agree 1000%
i've seen someone's bike got stolen inside their apartment.
Ar that point you own a glock or a shot gun amd blast they're ass. problem solved, providing there is always someone trained in the house..😉
Cristian Cepeda
Not all countries allow you to own a gun.
We in the UK are only allowed to own firearms under very controlled circumstances.
mrcaptaincrazy I know, I was kind of joking in a way but its frustrating knowing how easy it is to steal a bike and I'm sure many, many people don't get bikes for that reazon..
Thank you, for sharing this valuable information
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for your excellent video of Tips. I learned a lot. I will start by locking my rear disc with the lock facing inwards.
You are very welcome Chris. That's why the channel is, to help. Ride safe!
You're a genius brother,i love your videos. From. Kenya
U tips are really good. Thank you!
GREAT TIPS!
I have a disc lock and heavy cable. On trips I pack them but rarely use them. Like they say with houses, "Locks just keep out the honest people." You can't stop a determined thief...just frustrate them enough that they look for an easier target.
Agree
Excellent and very useful video. When I travel I use two disk brake locks (front and rear) as you sugges but facing outside. In the future I will face them to the tire. Thank you very much for sharing your huge experience with us.
Thanks for taking the time! All the best!
Thx for tips !

It’s amazing how things have changed in a few years. Trackers are common now, if only something as simple as taping an AirTag to the underside of the seat.
