  • Onkyo TX-NR5008 looks like working but have no sound.
Usually they have problem with DTS chip.
Heating the DTS chip sometimes solve the problem.
Sometimes is just enough to reset receiver to factory settings.
In this video I will show you how I have repair my AMP and add
passive heat sink for better cooling of DTS chip to avoid new problems in future.

@@diyart336 Thanks for your quick response; I understand , but my problem with this receiver is I imported to my country where onkyo doesn´t have representation, the the only way to fix it is send it to back to USA , but the cost associated are huge . then the only way is try to fix it by myself.

It's less than an inch, it says DTS right on it, should be top right back.

I'm cooling my yamaha with a heatsink that I order from Amazon for $3.95 after reflowing the DSP chip, is keeping it at about 107F to make the repair last you need to reflow the chip first.

Hello friend, also like you when my amp stop to worked, I looked on internet what can be the problem.
I saw lot of videos where all the people share the same problem. Most of them solve the problem by heating the DTS chip that I show in my video.
Because I do not have experience with electronics but i have tools I was able to make this repair, but still I was very careful.
If you watched the video I was heating few times the chip and was start with less heat, and I have increasing the temperature few times. In my case heating to 185 C solve the problem. Also before Heating first thing that I done was resetting to factory setup.
I did not fully understood how you have "stick" the chip. I do not recommend heating of chip above the temperature that I shown in my video.
If you done that and it is still not work it is better to find the help of professionals. My amp is still working ( about 2 weeks now).

Hello friends, I'm from Brazil, few months ago my Onkyo 5008 don't turn on the speakers, the device turns on normally, but the speakers don't.
I turned it on, turned it off, turned it on and all of a sudden it started working again.
However, next day I had the same problem.
Yesterday, 7/20 it doesn't worked. It turns on normally but the last relay does not connect the outputs speakers.
I haven't tried to warm it up yet, I'd rather send it to a technician.
Does anyone have news on the subject?
Note: My receiver was not on the Onkyo recall list for HDMI card replacement.
I even think about the possibility of sending the board for repair in the USA. Thank you all.

@@diyart336 Hello friend, sorry for my bad english..
I'm sorry you had to take the Onkyo in again for repair.
My Onkyo turns on but doesn't close the channel relay, it has no sound.
I researched and talked to a BGA specialist, he recommended not to reflow but to do the reballing service in the GPA.
Here in Brazil, this service will cost U$ 100.00. I'll try and then I'll send news. Hope it works.
      I hope I was clear. 😀

I was able to heat the chip in question to 185°F. I then let it cool down for 5 minutes and plugged it in and was able to get the speaker indicator light (FL, FR, etc) I left it on for two days. After two days I turned it off and back on only to discover the speaker indicator lights are no longer on meaning no sound. I guess I need to get it to our nearest A/V repair techs nearby (Normans Electronics) here in Metro Atlanta area.

in the Video, he shows you, the temp that worked, (185 C ) but for some reason, you decided to use (185 F ) ?? you used a temp that was 185 degrees cooler, than what was needed, so I ask,
why did you try it at a 185 degrees, instead of the 365 F degrees that you were shown, do you know the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit ? because they are not the same, and that's why it did not work for you.

@@diyart336 Normans Electronics here in the metropolitan Atlanta area is my last hope. Heck I only spent $40 for the receiver and brand new it was $1,599 so even if the repair cost me several hundred dollars I don't mind because it's really one hell of a performer. I currently own a 7.1 receiver by Onkyo and it's working pretty good but it was nice to have a little more power and don't be Atmos installed in my system with the two height speakers. I will keep you posted on my progress
