From a new guy with just two months of training, thank you for taking the time and making the effort to put these videos out there. I really appreciate being able to have these extra points of reference. I hope to say thanks in person and take part in TBI's bag classes or fundamental classes when i visit family in long beach again. Much respect and many thanks from virginia beach

Thanks coach, I'm a former karate fighter and an orthodox lefty. My MT coach hasn't really taught switch kicks because it's not a "beginner" move, but my left kick feels much better than my right and I'll be practicing this in sparring.

Hey Seedem- Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. I would agree with your coach that the switch kick is a bit more intermediate technique but that doesn't mean you cant watch this video and practice it on the bag and see if you can apply it in sparring. Let me know how it goes and thanks again for watching!

Switch kicks are definitely a beginner move. I teach them on day 1.

I really enjoyed the breakdown. Do you try to avoid that quick hop back to your stance in all circumstances off of the switch? I am definitely guilty of that. I ask because I have decent success using it in sparring (intermediate level)to fire off my teeps quicker after the kick. But I do find people counter this by jamming me or taking space away off of my kick.

In honesty i would have to watch what the technique looks like to give an honest assessment. I tend to avoid anything that compromises one's stance. If you are throwing a switch kick and hopping back to stance that means there is an instance of one's feet being close together thus compromising the integrity of ones base. the other side of that is how much range do you have between you and your partner. sounds like you are able to get the push kick in so that distance must be great but if you are getting smothered sounds like your range control is inconsistent. Often times if one is cutting their switch kick short to land with the lead leg forward it's to initiation a shorter range attack such as a right cross or elbow after a left kick. Hope that helps!!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

There are more than 2 ways of throwing a switch kick, and stepping isn't one of them.
Switch because you're too close to step. Switch to quickly close the distance. Switch for power by moving in the direction that the kick is landing. Big Switch for more power, small Switch for more speed. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
