For people who think the Arena looks all "rusted and cheap" it was designed that way so it would fit in with the atmosphere and cultural architecture of Brooklyn and they definitly did a good job of doing that and if you see the arena in person it looks great
Yea i remember driving by it as a kid saying..."hey you guys didn't finish" only to find out later that, as you said, the rusty look is suppose to represent the gritty culture and nature of Brooklyn

They built this really fast, when I went there in 2012 and got off the Subway station they were no where near done this was in April of 2012 Fast Forward September of that year and this place already finished & they did the Mtv VMAs there.
They finished construction on my birthday

I love where I'm from & to see that Brooklyn has a sports franchise in the borough I live in is amazing. I grew up not to far from the Barclay's Center in a small apartment on Bergen St above a luncheonette called City Sub.

I suspect in about 50 years people are going to look back at the rusted exterior panel fad in architecture the way we look at Brutalism today, i.e. what were they thinking? It's ugly, it's obviously ugly but because it is supposedly sophisticated architecture nobody can tell emperor he has no clothes.
Except when you look inside it's a state of the art arena that now hosts the best basketball team of all time after the dream team so not really a huge deal
