    It wasn't enough to have one billion-dollar, one-sport-only arena in New York; they decided it was necessary to build a second billion-dollar arena (UBS Arena) just for the Islanders. Meanwhile, the Knicks and Rangers (and their fans) are perfectly happy with the 55 year old Madison Square Garden.

    • @nothanksguy
      @nothanksguy Год назад +17

      Madison square garden has also been heavily renovated, but your point is correct. Madison square garden is perfectly located because it is built on top of the old Penn station.
      A great arena with a great location should last a city at least four decades

      UBS Arena is in Nassau County, not NYC proper. That location is much better for the Islanders than Brooklyn.

    Barclays Center IMO is the worst of the NHL/NBA arenas in the area. It has little character and is very drab on the inside. UBS Arena and MSG blow it out of the water

    Great job with the videos. I believe also that Barclay Center’s site was also where the ole Brooklyn Dodgers Domed stadium was supposed to be prior to moving to Los Angeles. The late owner Walter o’Malley was pushing this proposal which would have been at least a good 10 years before the Houston Astrodome.

    I’ve been their for concerts, hockey and wrestling and the event day experience is highly under whelming. The concourse so dark (painting everything black might not have been the way to go). After you enter the building it’s like walking into a cave. The place has no charm or personality. It will never be like MSG. Also the new UBS Arena is so much nicer and has so much more life to it. Also roof only looked that green for like a short time. It looks like crap most of the time.

    They ended up selling other real estate assets to keep the project afloat until they could sell majority stakes in both arena and team to outside parties. 🤠
