AJ isn't my cup of tea but he came up with either a line or a title that's one of my all time favrorites, He's got a way with women and he just got away with mine.
I am 76 also and I always say that the songs from the 70's were so amazingly good and popular to the present time. Brings back such great memories from long ago.
I'm 74 and I had recently commented on how lucky our bunch is with our music experiences. We heard music of the 50's as children and headed into a world of the 60's with a huge shift in music beats and the sounds, followed by war, Changing times, discontent, and rebellion of the 70's. Music had protest, sex, and a purple Haze all over it. Oddly I appreciate much of it more now than I did then. The 80's had some legendary hits in it with heavy metal rock sounds and so many artists that are still out there belting out their hits cause we just don't want them to stop. We've gone through soft rock, hard rock, country western, Doo wop, disco, blues, big bands, little bands, even reggae, and great music still comes out. Thank God for that cause you'd think they would have run out of melodies and lyrics by now.
Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Operator, I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song, I Got a Name, All Great Songs by the late Great Jim Croce. Died way too young , in a plane crash. Thanks Jim , RIP.
First heard this as a child, and I'd never heard such a beautiful melody and lyrics that expressed such a deep love. I remember being deeply moved at the time. I vote for I Got A Name next.
Jim was so wise, there isn't a bad pick here. It's like he lived so many lives in his 30 years. He will make you laugh and cry, sometimes in the same moment. A true song smith. RIP.
This was my parents’ wedding song.. married in 1973 and still crazy in love with each other .. he literally has her saved as ‘Beautiful Bonny’ in his cell phone lol.. #CouplesGoals
Yep. Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Don McLean, Dan Fogelberg. The great singer-songwriters. Croce died not long after this album was recorded, so the lyric of "Time In A Bottle" is painfully apt...and it is "Time", not "Message", that's in this bottle..."Message In A Bottle" is Sting, not Jim Croce...that's a different, and also great, rabbit hole...Other great Croce stuff includes "Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)", "Have To Say I Love You In A Song", "Photographs And Memories", "I Got A Name", and the two classic fight songs, "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim"...
Yes, he wrote this for his son when he found out his wife was pregnant with their first child. Of course, back then they didn't know the gender ahead of time. If you would like to hear a love song to his wife lookup. "II'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song"
He was really making a name for himself at that time, but he had made a bad record deal where he really wasn't making much money. He had written a letter to his wife before the crash saying he was going to give it all up. She received it after.
Jim was the epitome of a Singer-Songwriter. So freakin’ talented! Taken from us too soon. At this time, we had Jim, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor & Carole King. It was glorious. J, you should do a series of Singer-Songwriters.
Jim struggled and was ready to quit when he was killed in a plane crash at 30yrs old. His songs exploded on the charts but he never got to see his success come to fruition. He left behind a supportive wife and a very young son.
You might also like Jim Croce's slow songs "Operator" and "I Got a Name" and "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song "... and his fast songs "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim." ... Sadly, like so many stars of yesteryear, he died in a plane crash on the way to another gig. (His last name is pronounced CROW-CHEE.)
I love that song and that you reacted to it! I've been asking Billy you so crazy to react to this song but he's so busy he hasn't gotten to it yet! You two are my favorite reacters!
Another mega talented singer/songwriter who was taken way too young. He was killed at the height of his popularity on 9/20/1973, in a plane crash, at the age of 30. ALL of his music was great! I especially like this one, "Time in a Bottle," and also, "I Got a Name." He also wrote a couple of funny songs; "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," and "Don't Mess Around with Jim" that were big hits. Thanks for your great reaction to this one.
A fantastic story teller! Please react to I Got a Name, I Have to Say I Love You In A Song, You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,Lover’s Cross And These Dreams. All great tunes!
Pronounced Crow-Chee. This song called Time In A Bottle became a #1 hit after Jim Croce's untimely death in a plane crash in 1975. A master story teller, his fans were devastated by the news. Try his hit song titled I've Got A Name.
Randal Johnson spell it your way. I am 62 years old and grew up listening to Jim Croce first run. Casey Kasem pronounced his name every week Jim had a hit in the top 40. You may disagree on how I chose to describe it but that's not my problem.
@@johnandrews3151 ok. I'm just saying, who would know better how to pronounce it. Kasey Kasem or Jim Croce himself. Click the link I posted and hear Jim give the the answer.
My favorite is I have to tell you I love you in a song He came home late & drunk so his wife locked him out of the bedroom So he went into the basement and came back 30 minutes later with this song It took his wife & friends 2 years to convince him to release it to the public
Growing Up With Jim Croce Music ! So Right ~Talent When It Came Writing Lyrics To Songs ! Touching & You Could Hear It When He's Singing ! Heartbreaking When He Left Us !
i'll never forget how sad i was at 9 years old when Jim died in a plane crash in 1973, this song went to #1 shortly after that. he has so many great songs. Operator. Bad Bad Leroy Brown. I Got A Name, are just a few to start with.

In 1972 I was walking around with 2 of his albums under my arm, singing "Photographs and Memories" and "Time In A Bottle" and explaining, to the Hard lovers, who Jim was and making him listen on smoky nights. Jim was one of my many cries and regrets, along with Otis Redding, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Jim Croce, as well as a delicate and sincere poet. he represented the new frontier of singing America. Paying a very high price to achieve the popularity of his songs. He still moves me while he is writing, damn !!!! I keep putting one of his LPs on the plate, I close my eyes and cry one of my Heroes. I send you a smile Jim, wherever you are !!!!
I've always been a fan of those deep cuts, those gems that didn't get the radio time that they deserved. In that spirit, I'd have to say check out "New York's Not My Home." Choice track despite lack of air play.
Late reply but “one less set of footsteps” is also a great tune that isn’t as popular as his other songs. Upbeat and (in my opinion) just as good as Leroy Brown
Other Jim Croce songs (pronounced Crow -chee): Operator, Bad, bad Leroy Brown, Don't mess around with SLIM and I've got a name. By the way, I love your reactions - you are to the point, appreciate good music and just a great guy!
It's actually pronounced Crow-chay, but everyone in the US says Crow-chee and he apparently just let it go. There is a video of him interviewed by Dick Cavett where he says his name.
Omigosh!!! What a treat for you!!! Croce left us way too soon!!! He was one of the greatest!!! Every prom in the country, the year this came out, used this song as their theme!
The 60s, 70s and 80s are in my opinion the very best music ever written, so many talented artists and musicians. I am so blessed to have been born in the early 60s and grew up with these beautiful memories.
So many great songs from him for you to listen to! Operator, Photographs and Memories, Lover’s Cross.... I would never be able to choose just one as a favorite! 🌻

Yess, that one I guarantee you will be tapping your foot to. An excellent choice I must say.👍
It's not a long rabbit hole, but it's a wonderful one to travel through.

Unfortunately so true
He wrote this song when he found out his wife was pregnant with their son AJ.
AJ is a fabulous musician - I just saw him in February and he played half his own songs and half of his father's. It was absolutely magical.
AJ isn't my cup of tea but he came up with either a line or a title that's one of my all time favrorites, He's got a way with women and he just got away with mine.
I never knew that; even more heartbreaking.
Wow didnt know that. It’s a theme in Xmen quicksilver character I believe
Arguably his best song is “Operator-by Jim Croce”. You won’t be sorry
Love that one as well! It’s like you can visualize him having this painful conversation with a random voice on the other end of the phone.
My favorite is I've got a name.
Yes love that choice

One of my all time favorites...and I am 76 years old..so I have heard a heck of a lot of music...and I enjoy a long list of genres...
Bless you . U can't deny the simplicity of this music. It doesn't need all the extra added new fangled things. Pure and simple.

James Taylor "Fire and Rain" (1970) ....If you liked this one you will like James Taylor who is also a great story teller

Beautiful. Can I like this multiple times? No? Darn.
I just looked him up and I didn't know he died very young only 30 in an air plane crash. Mostly likely at the height of his career
Yes. He was just becoming famous when he died. If I remember correctly he had just released his first album when he passed.
So many fantastic singers and band members killed in airplane crashes a long time ago!
