With their connecting of hands it kind of shows how Luke and Asch finally worked together in order to accomplish a similar goal! It’s all so touching and heartbreaking at the same time.
also the short haired one is left-handed (like Luke) and the long haired one is right-handed (like Asch) Though tbf, Asch is technically left-handed, he just started using his right hand after Luke was created.

The music, the animation... All is done to make you cry. I feel so sad for Ash. His life has been stolen, Luke-replica surpassed him though he is the original one, his friends and his family didn't even notice that Luke wasn't the real Luke. How painful it should has been. He didn't deserve to die. I wished he could live his own life after Luke defeated Van. I know that Ash is simply a game's character, but it can't be helped ! My heart will stay broken for a long time !

Damn this was one of the saddest scenes i have ever seen in a videogame. 'specially when you see his hairs fall. The OVA's version wasn't as sad though...still knowing his back-story makes this scene all the more powerful. It's sad that a lot of people didn't pick up this game. It was so amazing.

this scene made me cry. i knew it was inevitable he was meant to die (due to the side effects of the fomicry), but it's still so sad. Asch deserved so much more. even if he burned down to ashes, at least he burned brightly before his flame was snuffed out...
I know this might make me sound like a heartless bitch, but this scene is one of my favorites, and it's not because Asch dies. It's such a sad scene, and to me, it seems like the game was leading us to this point. If you think about it, this game is full of sad things, but I think this is the saddest because Asch finally accepted Luke.
I get what you mean. Asch always treated Luke as someone who was a "replacement" for himself. That made Asch resent Luke and when Luke starts becoming his own person, it pissed off Asch so much, especially given that he and Luke were basically the same and that Luke was able to find happiness. After being defeated by Luke, he finally realized that they're both separate people with their own memories and goals in mind. But it was as he was dying that Asch fully accepted that he and Luke aren't the same.
i put 104 hours into this game....this was the first game that ever made me cry. after everything that happened i did not expect this to happen. what an epic game!!!

I really am amased and in awe at how clear, crisp, and well drawn out the animation sequence is from the game compared to how the anime version is presented (in short I strongly admire the game's version).
while 3D is a great in gaming. the 2D animation for me is way more expressive than 3D, especially in JRPG. i'm glad tales abyss still use lots of expressive sprite in conversation

I was doing fine even with the music but then Luke made that FACE and fuck But I remember being a little annoyed that they killed him off right when things were going to get interesting. I understand that one of the reasons Asch doesn't develop much is because Luke is developing so much, it helps to have Asch as a stagnate character to compare him to. But he finally accepts Luke after their fight and Luke accepts himself and maybe things are starting to move forward... (I know they were both dying so they didn't have much to look forward to but I felt a little put out.)
i know this comment is 4 years old lol, but actually only Asch was dying due to the fomicry process. all his fonons were slowly being siphoned to Luke and, once that depleted, Asch would (presumably) basically go into cardiac arrest and die

@@SanaePrime thats right. reason why i got so mixed up w/ that was because we knew for a fact Asch would die no matter what because the original in fomicry always died and their fonons went to the replica (which is odd, youd think itd be the other way around, but i guess the fomicry process takes a toll on the original's body after the cloning and the whole thing about some of the original's fonons being essentially ripped away and placed in the replica's body so the two are essentially in a constant battle over fonons w/ the replica sadly winning by default), it's just Asch lasted surprisingly longer than the other originals and surviving for 7 years without side effects. but, yes, thats right, Luke spent a lot of his energy and fonons in the Tower of Rem and his fonons became unstable, threatening to rip his body apart essentially

Remember all that weird stuff happened between them like their ability to communicate over long distances because they were perfect clones. And Asch could control Luke. He spent his last moments trying to help Luke. And Van says "You've become human" indicating a fusion had already began and was finalized after Luke freed Lorelei. Plus, how else would Luke have grown all that hair back so fast? And NOT disintegrated. Asch told Luke "TAKE MY PLACE!" He didn't want to live any more. The constantly moving around, not resting and not seeking out medical attention from Tear or Natalia combined with the fact that Luke told his parents the situation and Asch STILL didn't stay or try to get close to anyone. Asch also knew he was going to die, when you catch him in Belkend is when Spinoza told him he was going to die because of the fomicry even though it had been 7 years.
the ending is more open-ended than that. yes, it's confirmed Asch was dying, but theres no confirmation he and Luke actually fused. just because his fonons went to Luke doesnt prove concretely he fused w/ Luke. the Luke we see at the end of the game looks like a mix of Luke and Asch, and both boys did make a promise (the "I made a promise" Luke said to Tear; for Luke it was obviously his promise to Tear he'd return and Asch was his promise to Luke and, indirectly, Natalia that he'll come back to them alive when he and Luke parted ways), but it's left to the player's judgment of if Luke and Asch became one entity. ive seen on the internet ppl claiming Asch moved at the end, but i didnt see a twitch out of him unless the 3DS quality is just that shitty lol

i have a theory that at the ending.... Asch and Luke fuse bodies into one being. This is based off many of the sidequests involving the symphonic resonance stuff and imagery at the ending
Asch dies so that Luke can live. The reincarnated Luke at the final scene is the soul of Luke inside Asch's body, since Luke's own body was disintegrating. That's why when Luke begins to glow and fade away, Asch's finger moves, showing that Luke's soul has transferred from the fading body, to the dead, and being revived one.

I never really liked Asch from the very beginning, but, at this point, I think I finally started to like Asch. The funny thing is, when I started to play the game, I thought Asch was fighting his father during the opening when I think they were fighting in Hod. I later learned it was Luke fighting Asch. Lol. XD
I didn't find this better than symphonia story-wise, but it was up there. I do agree that this would have done better on GC. Maybe the Wii will get a port or something (doubt it...but one can hope). The only game I thought came close to beating symphonia was vesperia, with abyss in a very close 3rd. each game had its own tragic/sad scene (Vesperia: Yuri yelling at Estelle to come back. Symphonia: Kratos actually calling Lloyd his son at the end.), but this one was the best of 'em.
So did I. I felt the OVA for this scene wasn't drawn as good and was alot more Bloody. (Yes Pun) This game might of done better if it was released on GC, seeing how well Symphonia did for GC owners. (And I found this better than Symphonia)

I've watched the anime... Asch and Luke had their final one on one while Tear took on Legretta, with Jade covering her and Anise took on Sync with Guy.
This is the game version of his death. In the anime version, he actually has a small conversation with Luke before a puddle of blood forms under him as he bleeds to death and goes silent.
@XtremeStarfox That, and it wasn't advertised much, if at all. I only learned about the Tales series as a whole after seeing Omegaevolution's gameplay videos of it. After that though, I had to have them- especially Abyss. 8D

If you haven't had that question answered or figured it out for yourself outside of RUclips, YES it is on 3ds... But it has some issues with the framerate dropping a little more when the battles get too chaotic on screen. And if Asch uses his mystic arte (where he sticks his sword in the ground and makes all that ice), the game freezes.
Asch:can kill 200 guards whenever he wants to 50 guards appear* and gets stabbed 7 times its funny how he can kill as many as he wants to when the plot says he can but when the plot says no he can't lol i RLLY love this game tho rip asch

each game had its own tragic/sad scene (Vesperia: Yuri yelling at Estelle to come back. Symphonia: Kratos actually calling Lloyd his son at the end.), but this one was the best of 'em.

This game might of done better if it was released on GC, seeing how well Symphonia did for GC owners. (And I found this better than Symphonia)
I don't get why Luke didn't give Asch his old sword when Asch gave Luke his sword.
Maybe then Asch would have lived.

I've watched the anime... Asch and Luke had their final one on one while Tear took on Legretta, with Jade covering her and Anise took on Sync with Guy.

This is the game version of his death. In the anime version, he actually has a small conversation with Luke before a puddle of blood forms under him as he bleeds to death and goes silent.
@XtremeStarfox That, and it wasn't advertised much, if at all. I only learned about the Tales series as a whole after seeing Omegaevolution's gameplay videos of it. After that though, I had to have them- especially Abyss. 8D

If you haven't had that question answered or figured it out for yourself outside of RUclips, YES it is on 3ds... But it has some issues with the framerate dropping a little more when the battles get too chaotic on screen. And if Asch uses his mystic arte (where he sticks his sword in the ground and makes all that ice), the game freezes.
