Seems to me the "V for Vendetta" movie actually paid attention. Just listen to this again and notice the details on some of the things. The Jail Cells being next to one another. The Burning. The incompetent officials. The absurdity of the plan. Lots of little calls to what was mentioned here.
Also the underground tunnel, fireworks (nod at modern observation), and the face to face meeting between rebel and ruler in dark dank place. I wonder if his body riding the train to parliament was meant to parallel Fawkes being dragged off to execution.
I would much rather say that the comic book gave better credit to the historical events. Looking back on it, the film adaptation was rather namby-pamby.
I worked with a Brit, really cool guy. He told me how Nov. 5th was like independence day for UK, and how incredible the fire works are. They made American ones look like pop toys😂 P.S. 👉💕🇬🇧💕👈

The Bonfires and the burning of an effigy have more in common with the pagan festival of Samhain when if deemed necessary people would be placed in The Whicker Man and burnt as an offering to the God's of the Fields and Forests, and as time progressed to 'Wassailing' going round the fields and woods firing guns to chase away evil spirits. Now replaced by fireworks.
Would be nice! We could certainly do with a change from all the shite we've been fed about Covid19 by Messrs Valance, Cummings and (half) Witty. That unholy trio are a bigger threat to this country than Hitler ever was.
Why is it that old paintings of parliament especially queen Elizabeth, look as if they want to eat our babies....paintings of modern officials often look the same!🧛♂️🧛♀️🧛♂️🧛♀️🧛♂️🧛♀️
I (an American) remember reading about Guy Fawkes in the 70s. Very recently I've been reading an author that was about time traveling back to the 16th century & quickly recognized this was leading to the actual Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot incident.
It's a known fact that the conspirators all first met together in a house called 'Whitewebbs House' in Enfield Middx. Of all places, this house was less than a half a mile from the grounds (walls) of Theobalds (or Tibbalds Palace) which, at this early time, was still owned by Robert Cecil & the favourite 'palace' of King James 1st (who later acquired the palace & died there in 1625). I think Robert Cecil was 'in' on this assassination conspiracy from it's very conception. Why would the conspirators all risk meeting so close. If Robert Cecil was not in fact himself ..part of this conspiracy ?
Well, might be that you just put my atheist dude off Bonfire Night for a year! I had no idea this date was about Catholics vs Protestants, can I go back to burning stuff for Anarchism now?

my Pipper a dog (well technically she was a dog even if she didnt really act like one) was never bothered by fireworks im glad to say, but then again she was the type of dog that actuly tryed to rip the testicals off a rotwiler (thats how we ended up with her, she was my sisters) but it was his own fault for trying to mate with her and she was having none of it.
The gunpowder plot is the most entertaining part of British history it’s a shame how it causes damage each year tho and scares animals and pets :/ I wish more people took the history and the damage in consideration
Love these! Can you do one on Anne askew? I’ve always found her story interesting, but I don’t come across entertaining stories of her story very often
Spy’s, spymasters, religious fanatics plotting to overthrow their government and a wild eyed mercenary building a weapon of mass destruction. It’s got everything for a great Cold War Spy thriller!
Interesting that this plot was more for Catholic benefits than for the system itself (taxes, freedom etc). You could argue that these conspirators were in those times "far-right anti-revolutionaries". They basically wanted to change the system, but for the wrong cause. Never thought about that before. Great video!
terrorism is just people who don't want to conform to the rules and/or laws of a country or wherever to put it at its easiest to understand form, ....so pick a side?
Oh yeah. Charles I Stuart, the guy who went so far against the grain of English monarchism that the Puritans started a war over it. Well, at least they executed the bastard fair and square. 😐

My question is he wasn't the only man involved in the Gun Powder Plot. I know it was a group of men. So, why only remember he?
Because Fawkes was charged with guarding the gunpowder and was caught red handed with it at parliament. My ancestor Sir William Wade caught him.
