I learn so much from every one of your videos. You have a calm, clear way of speaking that is easy to listen to and I find myself pulled into the topic even if I will never own a horse!😃

Sounds like harsh activity for a horse with arthritis.

¡ Saludos desde Peru! I really appreciate your videos and your humble attitude. We live in the mountains of Peru. It gets extremely dry here from June through September which is our “winter season”. Then from October through to The end of April is our rainy season . I deal with very dry hooves on my horse and find it very difficult to maintain any moisture in the hoof.

well, today I found out what reining is. I have seen it before, but didn't know what it was called...

Nice complete video. Do slider shoes have a breakover bilt in? It looks like they do but was not sure from some images in the vid. Thanks!

It makes sense that horses would wear special shoes for different sports! If you don’t think that’s necessary, go look in your own closet. You can bet I don’t wear my church shoes for running a marathon, or comfy slippers for rock climbing.

I have a question. I'm confused to the meaning of "dead" tissue and "live" tissue. Is the tissue the inside of the hoof?

The Hoof grows and in nature it exfoliates like human skin does. In captivity it doesn't exfoliate so we do it with a Hoof knife

Caleb, I have Reiner in NZ and he’s a nice horse but his near side hind goes wide in the stop. I haven’t seen sliders with one trailer reset so just to double check would I need to shape the outside trailer to get him to travel straight. We have tried turning the shoe so it’s parallel with the travel which was a failure. Appreciate your guidance.

What is this word that sounds as if it is commature (or something of that nature) that I keep hearing. I am not finding it in a dictionary.

Why don’t you use slider trailers that are straight? More trailer more support? Best way to check your sliders is to take that horse straight to the arena and watch it stop. I would be very curious to watch it stop behind with these type of sliders. Smith brothers in Boise taught me a huge amount of slider info. Please doing think I am criticizing!!! Just asking questions about this particular horse and slider routine.

Absolutely I've heard the Smith Brothers are amazing would love to pick their brain. Honestly on the medial side I would have preferred a little straighter extension but those weren't terrible I can usually find stuff wrong or that I would change every time that's how we get better
On the lateral side it's helps open her stop up

We all get better by being honest with our self and maintaining a good work ethic. Extended heels dhould be in the direction of travel period. Trailers hit the ground first and turn the toe toward the outside there are proper ways to create drag on sliders or the use of jar calks setting him up that way is setting him up for injury is am very sorry but I see this often inexperienced horseshoers and there horses bennifit emencly by getting with qualified journeyman farriers and working toward AFA certification where you develop all those skills and can then maintain a high standard. Never apply something your not a hundred percent sure about just call a CJF in your area and ask we are all very helpful.

If you don’t want as much grab don’t put so much change of direction in your donkeyed heels. They should be straighter & in line w travel not so angular. What you have on there is actually more of a trailer which is by design to stop lateral movement. Not what a Reiner wants especially in the spin. albeit that they do spin off the medial toe primarily. As far as the slide goes a smoother straighter branch leading into the heel will hold the line and trap less arena dirt in the commissure to frog junction. If the horse slides narrow, to open it up narrow and shorten the medial heel also the general direction of the shoe can be pointed in the direction you want him to go. Take a triangle file to your clincher grooves. Sharpens up the teeth if they’re dull. Cordless angle grinder w a abrasive sanding disc works best to take your nail heads off.
