this was a great idea Dirk! I loved it. you give a nice video of the good things on the product as well as honest things you dislike. that is cool and will help others when they are looking for cigar accessories in the future. keep this up my friend! =)
This was great!!! I have the exact lighter and all of your points were spot on. Thank you for making the videos, they are great and I always enjoy them. Keep up the great work. Cheers Friend, T.
I have the polished (mirrored) colorway and it scratched pretty quickly. Now I find myself throwing it in the same pocket as my v-cutter and not thinking twice, I would love to see not only a case but a rendition of this lighter with all the flaws you pointed out fixed. If that happened, there would be no argument about it being the best torch on the market. Great video, Dirk!
Good video, I was thinking about getting one of these but considering the cost compared to durability I might go with a Xikar or Colibri instead. I enjoy your videos and I've subbed, looking forward to the next one.
The ones I have with the coloured paint on them have held up perfectly after 2 years. Own a black, yellow and orange and all of them are flawless. Maybe just the brushed raw metal that marks up easily?
i had 2 defi extremes b4.. i hate it when the spark thing were out .. you can't find a proper replacement for it . it the usual sparker thing from an ordinary lighter but of the spark wire is longer than usual.. there is no proper guide to fix it too.. besides that it a really good lighter.. and i agree with u.. the defi extreme should have some sort special ed with some extra accessories . i will definitely buy it
Just picked up the slim 7, now you have spoiled it with the China info! Granted it took me a while to find it as the slim is tiny. It does come with its own small felt sleeve to avoid scratches though. 😞😞😞
1st is mandatory its about safety.3 rd is price wisdom so we can buy it cheaper.it would probably be double the selling price if its to be manufactured in france.as for the cover i think they should have made them.or maybe just order a custom one from a nearby crafter.
these companies-- if they have the brains and wherewithall-- would love these videos and make the improvements suggested. free consulting that they would otherwise pay $ millions to figure out. They should also compensate the guy here for his extremely valuable comments in his video.
Hi. I too was annoyed that such a high end brand would be made in China so I contacted the seller and they said.... As authorised vendors of ST Dupont we asked the brand about this question in some other occasions. They told us that the works of lacquer, the metal work and the body of the lighter is made in their headquarters in France. However, ST Dupont confirmed us that the ignition mechanism of this pieces is made in China, but not the whole lighter, which is made entirely in France. We have just contacted Dupont to verify this information and they told us that, the reason to put China, is because they are are obliged to specify the country in which the mechanism of ignition is manufactured
Ligang Jiang . Don't take offence by this. Is something of a stigma and in time will change. There are sombre really quality things from China and really low end stuff as well. Same for most far east and middle East counties
Yeah, I’ve heard that China is purposely making somewhat of a concerted effort to break the negative image of their manufacturing quality that has developed over the previous decades.
1.theres a way to easily remove those scratches . 2 the reason your not getting any flame on lowest setting is your shit quality butane your using 3 it’s not made in China the paint that is used on the exterior as well as exterior is from China . Internals are France . It does not say “made in China” btw it comes off(China comes off) 4 the guards protect from falls while in hand use . The case point is mute . 5.cigar accessories were not made for this item , because this item was not Made for cigar smoking alone . It was actually made for use in extreme conditions for everything from jspecial Military operations and any one who is in need of fire in temps of freezing to boiling . The butane required has propane in it for that reason . What you have is the best torch in the world
I really do not think it is the greatest butane lighter. I just bought one and that China label is pretty pathetic considering the price and French heritage. Based on that alone the product should be embarrassed. Imagine buying a Ferrari and seeing made in China stamped on it. That just absolutely is not what people spending at the very top of luxury consider acceptable. Even gas station bic lighters are made in France. In addition the lighters flame I found to be weaker than other brands at that level. The design is pretty generic and bland considering it’s an ST Dupont. Looks like any other survival torch and really doesn’t perform any better. The lighter doesn’t excel in design performance and not to mention the thing says China on the side disgracing the brands heritage and notion that French craftsmanship is what you are paying for. This thing skips the French master craftsmanship of the other lighters in the brand.

Was going to order one but no way if made in china....why would they dilute their brand like that?

Your page is amazing man. Can't believe you don't have more subs
Maybe the low setting is for bleeding the lighter? The xikar stratus has that same issue with their low setting which makes me think is on purpose.
Haha I like this video! Is very objective & funny as you explain things... kind of made me giggle. :p ☺
Nice video Dirk. Keep'em coming - The Havana Guy.
nice video, you should do more like this. Maybe you could do one for a cigar draw poker? also cutters.
hey what do you think of the xikar Volta. Really just looking for a tabletop lighter
Hallo ik heb een vraag voor je kan je ook sigaren uit de USA bestelen...of kan dat niet ...of mag dat niet van de NLD wet

Very informative video brother!!!!
Good input. I just don't know why you wouldn't say the downsides of the product in the first review straight away.
Review cigar cutters soon please!!

did you buy direct from the dupont website? the china thing is very frustrated.
does your lighter rattle when u shake it? Mine does and was wondering if that is normal?
RonMania yes they all do! There’s a little ball in it tho make sure you can’t light it upside down 😉
Great video my friend. And definitely some of the stuff you mention here are totally true. Thanks for this
+Lisardo Vivas thanks man! Glad to hear you agree with some of the points.
Hi dirk, came late to this vid !, can you do a 5 things about the st DuPont ligne please!!!👍🏾
Make some videos for different types of vintage lighters that actually selling market
Love the review 5 things you disliked, you sold me not to purchase this over priced
Chinese Lighter. Sad the quality of finish was pee poor.
Mine only works once in every 5 or 6 goes - Chinese quality!
I really love this video this review helps me before making a decision on purchasing one

Ho man that hurts, Xikar and Jetline make it beter. Nice review.
+Aaron M thanks! Well overal the DuPont is good! But those xikars are fine to!

Then pay more on lighter not made in China, there are many options and no one force you if you do not like made in China stuff.

That’s a relief. I’m still buying this lighter
Hakan Ozdemir RD true. China is really stepping up there game. They’re not so much of a shit hole anymore lol.
Yeah, I’ve heard that China is purposely making somewhat of a concerted effort to break the negative image of their manufacturing quality that has developed over the previous decades.
No.1 annoying thing, is the word “CHINA”
Ziet eruit als mijn Colibri Daytona, maar die koste maar €45,-
Доброго вечора! Слава Україні! Підскажіть будьласка скільки коштує така красота?
Shake it, there’s an annoying sound from within the lighter...
its the safety mechanism you can hear. it makes sure you cant turn it on upside down
Damn so dispointing for a 200€ lighter. I will focus on a maxi jet instead.

China! WOW!
"Nr. 3: China!"
~ Dirk 2017 or Donald Trump 2016?
A chinese dupont? Wow...
Be honest. It sucks. You don’t use it anymore.
Still use it almost everyday!
200€ this crap made in china.
