Like a Skatepark for Skimboarding: Small waves are Perfect for Skate Style Tricks on a Skimboard

- Small waves make for skatepark like conditions for skimboarding. When the waves are often times too small to surf, I tend to have a lot more fun on my skimboard. You are not relying on the power of the wave for speed like you are in surfing, when skimboarding you can generate your own speed based on how fast you are able to run. This allows you to use the small waves as ramps like you would on a skateboard. Skylar Wilson, Sam Stinnett, and Blair Conklin skim a miniature wedge in South Laguna. Summer is finally here and we look forward to the good beach days ahead. We hope this video gets you stoked to get outdoors and enjoy some sand sliding at your favorite beach!

I love the fact that skimboarders are able to utilize the small coves in the SL area to ride waves and enjoy the ocean!
The highlight of this video for me was hearing the mysterious Skyrar speak and seeing her skimboard for the first time. MORE SKYRAR!!!
I could watch this every day how Blair slides out to these big waves. Meanwhile I am able to catch waves close to the shore but to slide so far out and ride these big waves down to the shore must be an incredible feeling and I hope that I will once also manage to slide so far out.😊You are a huge inspiration and I thank you so much for these amazing clips! At the beginning I could not imagine, that this sport makes that much fun. But your clips helped me to progress pretty fast and now I am an absolute Skimboarding-addict. I do not know any other sport (including skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding etc) that is comparable with this feeling because this feeling when you slide out fast is absolutey unique. And because the board is so short it is like surfing on a skateboard-deck and I absolutely love this. So, thank you again very much for all your tutorials and these amazing clips! The tar is technically called asphaltum (used for asphalt) and bubbles up naturally in various spots along the cali coast. The tar-y substance had been used by the natives many moons ago to seal their boats and provide waterproofing to other items.

I love skimming and watching Blair skim, however I’ve gotten jaw surgery and I can’t go skim for two months. There goes my summer. But can’t wait to order a Blairacuda when I’m all healed. I wanna shred on it so bad.

The best way to remove the tar is with a lighter based oil like vegetable oil or coconut oil. Then use dawn dish soap to remove the oil.

I really wish I had ocean waves, I just have sea waves so a lot of small waves between the nice big ones. It makes a big difference unfortunatly
Tijmen Bakker i am not a pro but i think that the set just comes every once in a while. i was surfing in portugal for a few times and there were small waves and than the big waves came and again.

Blaire, the 'tar' is possibly PIB (high viscosity polyisobutylene) it's an addititve in marine lubricant oils. It's dumping at sea was banned globally in 2014 after it was found to be killing 1000s of marine birds annually just in UK waters alone. However, it still seems to be getting into the sea either by accident or illegal discharging , nasty stuff and a pain to get off.

I like these videos before I watched them. Haha, anywho If you Don't have anything else with you to get the black tar off you can use SPF50 spray on Sun screen.... i stepped in it and didn't want it all over my board So I covered all of the tar with sand so it wouldn't spread anymore then it with sunscreen. It came off 🙌 😳 👏 🤗 love the vids kids. Haha 🤙🏼bewooom 💥

oh mate i just repaired mine. Is it on the bottom? I was doing a bit of sand skimming and some pieces of epoxy resin chipped off. Just go on ebay, and search epoxy/polyester resin (depending on which type of resin your board is made of). And once you get it, you can just pour little bits in the cracks, let it dry and then sand it out :) hmu on instagram @lochlainndw if you have questions
