Brit, anytime you hear black singers (Cameo, etc) or actors (Proud Family, Martin, etc) saying "Oww!" like that, they all get it from lead singer of The Ohio Players, (Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner)....Ohio Players - one of the G.O.A.T.s of R&B/Funk!! 🤘🏾

I graduated in 79. Our music is still the best. The 70s music was a constant experiment. No instrument or mix of instruments were off limits. It was always an amazing musical atmosphere. No music since can even come close.

My first job was in a gas station in Dayton, Ohio. The Ohio Players had an account there. They would come in and fill up two conversion vans and a bigger truck when they went out on the road. A bunch of really cool guys.

Brit, very perceptive of you because the song you were singing (Thank you for lettin' me be myself again) is by Sly & The Family Stone, and when the Ohio Players were interviewed years ago, the host said: (You guys have influenced so many artists, who influenced you?)...lead singer Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner paused, shrugged and simply stated "Sly". 👌🏾

Fabulous '70s funk band that was known as much for its sexy album covers as for their fine music. Their best known tracks were the one above (which sounds a bit less hectic on the recording) and the lively "Love Rollercoaster." Both of these tracks went to #1 Pop AND #1 R&B in 1974 and 1975, respectively. Also notable are the funky early hit "Skin Tight" and the slinky, sexy "Sweet Sticky Thing."

Love your videos, you have the best reactions. The part at the end where you said Sugarfoot was glitching/in reverse...you had me on the floor... If you listen closely, he was actually scatting the notes he was playing simultaneously on guitar... Badass guitarist and iconic vocalist... RIP Funkmeister...

The bass player (Marshall Rock Jones) is the real hero in this. Pay attention to him in the video. Amidst all the mad chaos and "fire" he stays super cool and stoic and just keeps driving the whole thing forward with that tight loop that he plays. Fiiii-re! Boom-boom-boom.

When they recorded Roller Coaster in the studio a girl got murdered and it was caught on the recording. I remember my sister would play the murder over and over on the record. The band has neither acknowledged or denied this allegation. BTW that was Sly and Family Stone you were thinking of.

70's RnB and Funk black bands were fun to listen to and created some really fantastic and under-appreciated music. Sadly, rap pretty much killed this type of music. Today it seems no one can play anything more than a drum machine, and I think Black music has suffered because of it. because there are no Black BANDS (Though Bruno Mars is making a valiant effort to change that).

I love dancing to this song so much! I dated a guy from 2002-2007 who was a drummer of a local band in my area. He also sang the more soulfoul songs. He was a black man with extra soul! When he sang this the whole venue would be up dancing and his drum solo to it ..top notch! 🙌🏼🤌🏼
Edit: you qere having too much fun with this one! We had such great music in the 70's & 80's. I was a teen in the 80's (born in 1969). I listened to all of this music though. I had many aunts and uncles on both sides of my family and they listened to everything! My parents loved music so much! My Dad sang and played guitar in a garage band when he was a teen in the mid to late 60's.

I believe those dancers you were wondering about were an act called "The Lockers" and that style of dance was known as locking...pop and locking. Reun from the TV show "What's Happening!" was a member. Toni Basil was the founder of that group of dancers that also included a guy known as Shabadoo who later gained fame in the "Breakin' " movies. These are the guys that brought breakdancing to the masses.

I think some of these dancers in the very early days were still putting together their slick moves and weren't quite all the way there yet. But they did get there. ✌😉 and you better know, Sly and the Family Stone is the group that you would be thinking of for that song I Want to Thank You fa' Lettin' Me By Myself Again. 💜🌷 That would be fantastic to hear from them and get your review. If you aren't sure if or where you heard it, especially the hook, have you seen Roll Bounce?

The Ohio Players were so hot, funky, and just frigging great. I personally like the original lp version. Next check out Rollercoaster. I agree with another commentor- check out the album cover. You'll totally understand what the 'fire' was about.

The song you don't know where you know it from is "Thank you" by Sly and the family stone.

I was judging you on O-H-I-O, but only because I got it a few seconds before, and felt like a silly goose.

@@brittreacts Also, it was Sly and Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" you were trying to recall. Oooo, please react to this gem.

Actually the freedom and love era and the music that went with it was between mid 60s and mid 70s. Maybe arrange to be born a little earlier. I was born in late 1949 and my teens and 20s were magical. Didn't need money. Just needed to be hip and cool. Then, of course, came the 80s. Don't talk to me about it

I think part of the song is the intro to Hell's Kitchen.
