I live in a studio apartment with 15ft tall ceilings making it unfeasible to cover all my walls with blankets, but the room is as private as it gets. Is this going to be an issue?
Hi Wenyi-yes, you will be able to take a break (including when going to the restroom) during an online-proctored exam appointment. Keep in mind, you will need to complete the check-in process again after any break. In addition, you will be unable to access any exam items viewed prior to your break for security reasons. I plan to use a desktop & a large screen monitor for my online exam. I wonder if I can buy an external camera that has a microphone integrated ... or, use a wired head set instead of buying all 3 individually? Thank You
This is correct. All candidates thinking of testing online-whether they’re using a monitor or laptop-will need an external camera. All integrated webcams, like the one on your laptop, will not be accepted. Additionally, your external webcam must be able to provide a 360-degree view of your testing environment, plus autofocus capability to capture a closeup image of your ID when checking in. To help offset the potential cost of purchasing an external webcam, NCARB is offering all candidates a one-time, $50 prepaid card the first time they schedule an online appointment. For more information about requirements for online proctored exams, including those related to webcams, read our latest blog at www.ncarb.org/blog/online-proctoring-how-to-set-your-testing-space.
To help clarify, candidates will only be allowed to have one screen during an online proctored exam, whether it be a laptop or a single monitor. If you choose to use your laptop to test online, your laptop will need to be plugged directly into a power source and unattached from a docking station. However, some candidates may choose to connect their laptop to an external monitor via an HDMI cord to utilize a larger display while testing. If you choose to do this, you will need to close your laptop’s lid, and will not be able to use your laptop’s integrated keyboard or trackpad. HI Jesus-great question. If you are disconnected from your exam during your appointment, you will be able to reboot your computer, run the system check, and re-launch your exam using the “Launch exam” button in Prometric’s browser. You must go through the whole check-in process again; however, your exam will re-start from the point where it was disconnected. Please note, if you require assistance at any time during your exam, you will be able to contact your online proctor through Prometric’s secure testing browser.
Covering up bookshelfs and walls is ridiculas. If you get up from your desk, the test is shut down so if a bookshelf, picture frame TV is behind you how does that effect your test? A pair of shoes on the shelf? really? Bottom line you are locked into the front of your camera, look down even the exam pauses.
A few months ago I had an exam and proctors made me remove all the pictures from my walls, cover my TV even though it was unplugged, maybe not use it as a mirror if someone tries to tip me off lol, which is ridiculous, even though the door was closed and visible on the camera. You have to show your earlobe, reveal part of your body past the shoulders, if you have long sleeves, you should roll up your sleeves and show your arms up to the elbow. I have never had such a check even at the airport. Now I have an online exam coming up again and I'm wondering how to arrange my room and what to wear to shorten this whole circus.

how about taking the breaks? are we allowed to use the restroom and step away from the camera?

what type of camera do you recommend?
Is there any recommended webcam brand?
No, NCARB does not have a recommended webcam brand.
I have only a laptop, do I need an additional camera? is the camera of the laptop not accepted? Thank you.

What would happen if I lose internet connection during my exam?
