    About this video
    In this video Zane from Simple Green Tech looks at how to connect mixer to PC for recording without an audio interface. You just need a couple of RCA to 3.5mm cables and that's it. Recently cheaper audio interfaces have become fairly expensive but you can still find audio mixers for fairly cheap and you can easily connect mixer to PC and laptop. In this video I use the Behringer Xenyx 1002 mixer but this method will work with other mixers from Behringer and Mackie plus similar mixers from other companies. Thank you for watching. I hope this helps you to connect mixer to PC so you can record.

      HI thank you you inspired me to start trying to make music. Would you be able to make a video about different ways to distribute music and any legal problems people might get with being under 18 or other things like that.:)

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  4 года назад

      Thank you for this comment. I have a couple of videos covering two distribution companies. 1. Distrokid ruclips.net/video/xQwHCyIEEe4/видео.html or 2. Amuse ruclips.net/video/E252ntccAIM/видео.html
      Amuse is free and gets your music in all of the popular stores (Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc.) Distrokid has an annual fee and gives you some extras for your membership.
      I am working on a series that will go from recording a song to distributing it so I will be covering distribution again very soon. As for legal issues, I am not the person to cover that. Hopefully if you email a distribution company like Distrokid or Amuse, they should be able to provide you with any legal issues you may encounter from being under 18.
      Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

    At first I tried the Behringer USB to mixer combo....I couldn't hear the headphones at all. I would have to constantly switch from mixer to PC and then back whenever I wanted to record. Anyway this method works perfectly. I only have to press the CD/TAPE to CTRL switch to hear playback.

    Wow, excellent info. Cheers from Canada. This is an Analog Mixer, correct. Now in 2022 which Input will take Line Out or To Headphones from an Android phone, say a Karaoke Track?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Год назад

      Yes this is an analog mixer. You can go from the headphone output on your phone into a line input on the mixer. If you want to have it in stereo, you will need to use a 1/8th inch TRS cable on one end (the phone end) and on the other side it would be split into two 1/4 inch TS connectors on the other end. On this mixer you would use any of the channels except 1 & 2 as 1 & 2 are mono channels, the rest can be stereo. Here is an example of the cable amzn.to/3b4AVCR

I have conected both in and out rca cables, and the in channel is working, I can hear my voice using the headphone pluged in the mixer, however, my line in to the computer (mixer out going into red/pink jack in computer, BUT mine is not usb spliter, it´s p2 pluged into the notebook and the other side 2 p2 plugs, one for headphone other for mic) is not working, I can even see the option line in or mic pluged in front or pink jack). So my voice is not "going" to the pc, also, my audacity software is not working at all for recording, it´s appearing some error -9996 invalid device. I have installed asio 4 all the other day, so it´s not driver problem. Please help me, ho can I "tell" my computer that there is a line in, or how do I install the line in that the pc is not "seeing"? I´ve tested it with usb cable to (rca to p2 female with p2 pluged in and other point is usb), the pc didn´t recognize the usb interface as well. Also I´ve tested the main out P10 (two plugs) to p2 male pluged in to the pink jack on the spliter.

      Yes you can record two mics. Set the pan of mic channel 1 all the way left and pan of mic channel 2 all the way right. That will separate the 2. Then in your daw software set the input of track one to either input 1 or Left (depending on what the wording is in your software) and then track two would be input 2 or right. Make sure both tracks are mono tracks.

    my mixer for reference: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TM31QK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      When you’re recording you’re recording the mix so anything sent to the mix will get recorded. If you want to listen through speakers and headphones you would need to connect both to the headphone output by maybe getting a headphone amp or another way to split the signal. Some mixers do have speaker outputs on the auxiliary but it looks like yours just has a headphone jack.

    Nice video, but I have a comment posed as a possible question:
    I know one of the purposes of your video was to use the mixer and record to a PC (or Mac) with out plugging into an interface. I also think you wanted to show how you can record 2 instruments or vocals at the same time and it have its own controllable channel both pre and post recording. Am I on the correct assumption? If so, why didn’t you just use the USB in back of mixer and plug into computer?
    That now becomes an interface but only for a stereo out that being said, you could then do what you demonstrated with panning and have one instrument hard left and one hard right. Exactly the same result except, what I am saying is the cleanest signal you would get. You just need to make sure that your usb out is set to the behringer as soundcard/interface when you record to audacity. This method gets rid of all the extra cables that you said we needed to purchase at the beginning of the video.
    Note* that’s what these mixers are for when you have a usb connection. They become a stereo interface for audio recording and live-streaming

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Год назад

      Note* at 0:15 in the video I say that this is a Behringer Xenyx 1002 mixer (which is not a USB mixer) then also Note * at around 0:25 where I specifically say “this is not a USB mixer”. So Note * that is not what these mixers are for as they do not have a USB audio interface on board. And if they did, the statement about cleaner audio is likely incorrect as the interfaces that they put in those mixers aren’t that high quality.

      You could connect them to the headphone output if you get a 1/4” jack. The other option would be to get a Y cable that you can plug your 3.5mm into and has 2 1/4” connections coming out of it. Then you would connect those to the speaker/monitor outputs of the mixer.

      The USB version can be used as an audio interface so plug in the USB to your computer and you’ll be able to record and listen at the same time. Make sure you download the Asio driver for it from the Behringer website. The default driver that installs when you first plug it in isn’t the greatest for music production.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад

      @@serkansen0190 if you connect it by USB you don’t need to set it up the way I did in the video. This was how to set it up when it’s not a USB mixer. When you connect the mixer by USB it becomes an audio interface. In your software select it as your audio device and you should be able to listen to what you’re recording along with anything played ba k. No need to worry about the 2 track buttons or anything. Just connect your headphones or speakers to the mixer and you should be able to hear it.
      I don’t know what the driver for this mixer is like but you might want to install Asio4all Andy we that as the driver. Asio can give you better recording performance with lower latency so when you’re recording while playing other tracks it will be more in sync.

      @@AudioTechTV I deleted my previous comment because i found a better solution without delay. Maybe it helps other people like me who simply want to record their guitar into a computer, while hearing their guitar signal and a backing track. While your Mixer is connected to your computer via USB : You have to connect the "Main out" of the mixer with the "2 Track In" of the Mixer and activate "USB/2TR to Phones" and deactivate "USB/2TR to Main". This way you get your "Line in" (guitar/mic etc) to your phones (because without the wiring the "USB/2TR to Phones" disables your ability to hear your "Main Mix" signal on Phones - I dont know why the hell) as well as your backing track from your usb laptop but can still record because you do not need to activate the "USB/2TR to Main" switch (which mutes your recording signal).
      You also have no delay because there is no audio on your phones which had to be send to your laptop, processed there and sent back to the mixer.

    • @AudioTechTV

      Audacity is about as user friendly as it gets in terms of the actual recording process.
      If you have a mixer that has a built in audio interface then you can use that if you want and it should show up in audacity. For instructions on how to connect a usb mixer to your computer, you connect the one end of the usb cable to the mixer and the other end goes into an available usb port on your computer and not a usb hub. It’s that simple.
      This video is for mixers that don’t have usb audio interfaces built in as it’s not as simple as plugging in a usb cable.
