@@user-gt2uf8cq9y Bruce had the release of the "Darkness on the Edge of Town" LP delayed by managerial troubles and a lawsuit (it didn't come out until 1978), so a few songs found new homes as Bruce kept on writing while he was trying to get rid of his old manager.

I remember being amused when people seemed surprised that Bruce Springsteen was interested in R & B music. Not only did he produce R & B shouter Gary U.S. Bonds but he also worked with Donna Summer though their collaboration didn't get as much attention as I thought it would.

I've heard it rumored that Springsteen wrote this song with Elvis in mind. He hoped that Elvis would listen and record it, but of course Mr. Presley passed away before that could happen, so the song went to the Pointer Sisters, who did a great job with it and almost took it to #1.

Please, please, PLEASE do "I'm So Excited". Probably their most hard hitting dance tune from the very height of their career, and they are GORGEOUS🥰
Also please do their Country hit "Fairytale" which they made history with as the first BLack vocal group to sing at the Grand Old Opry, AND won them a C&W Grammy
"...for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, marking the first awarding of a Grammy to an all-female vocal group and making the Pointer Sisters the only black women to date who have won a Grammy in a country music category"
They REALLY broke barriers and made history! Everybody LOVED these ladies❤❤❤
Anita also had a number 2 hit on the Country charts in a duet with Earl Thomas Conley "Too Many Times"

"Jump" is actually a later song than this one. "Jump" is from 1984 and this is 1978. It's just that their dress styles are different and the way they carry themselves, just following the trends of the two time periods. The Pointer Sisters first came to prominence in the early 1970s, and I think you'd really enjoy one of their early hits called "Yes We Can Can" from 1973.

Yeah, PeteW, edit that again. Bonnie passed before Anita, unexpectedly. Anita had been sick for a few years, and she and Bonnie were best friends. It really took the fight out of Anita to lose her. Ruth performs now with her daughter Issa and granddaughter Sadako as The Pointer Sisters. They both used to fill-in occasionally before becoming permanent members, so it still feels authentic.

This record won them a platinum disc . Bruce Springsteen wrote the song then gave it to the Pointer Sisters. When the Pointers sisters first started they were 4 of them and they jazz , county and would dress in 1940s clothing. However their sister Bonnie left to go solo. As they became three, they change to Disco with songs like ''Jump'' and '' I'm so Excited'' and modern sounds like ''Fire'' and ''Slow Hand''. It worth noting that each of the 3 sisters take in turns taking a lead in their songs

This is the most accurate and informative comment I have read on this vid. Hopefully Jay & Amber see it. These ladies fall into a class sadder than underrated-- They are relatively unknown and almost forgotten these days after having had phenomenal success throughout most of their career. With Anita's recent passing, Ruth is the last sister standing.

Jay and Amber, What I love about the Pointer Sisters is how genre-defying they were. The slow rocking Fire was written by Bruce Springsteen and was years before Jump was released. Even earlier was their genre-defying, Grammy Award-winning Fairytale that will blow you away … you won’t believe it’s them. Then take in their sultry Happiness and my personal favorite If You Wanna Get Back Your Lady. Prepare to be awed!

So when I heard it they started with "I'm ridin' in your car, You turn on the radio(filled in with "to K-Earth 101") immediately after radio. That was the station I heard it on even though that was an oldie station playing songs from the 50's at the time.

What most don't know or forget is that they started out doing some serious jazz. The first three albums (and the fourth if you count the live album) on Blue Thumb Records covered serious jazz music and some blues and more. There was their first hit, Yes We Can Can, and they covered more (Bonnie was still with them, the fourth Pointer Sister) like Dizzy Gillespie's Salt Peanuts, and then Steam Heat, Little Pony, Love in Them Hills, Jada, Black Coffee and more. I personally preferred this genre over the pop hits they later had and that is not to say they were not stellar as well. But the mere vocals they shot us with on these albums are mind blowing. They did a whole lot of scatting as well. A really top tier group.

Baby face and Des'ree do a nice cover of this song too, slow it down and take the sultry up a notch or two - a perfect couples jam❤❤

This was a hit on radio for a long time, and for good reason. It's great.

Not only did these amazing ladies sing countless hits on the radio, they also sang all kinds of stuff I never realized was them- like the Pinball countdown on Sesame Street! ❤

I love The Pointer Sisters. They started with four sisters; Ruth, Anita, Bonnie, and June, now only one is still with us, Ruth the sister with the low contralto voice. My favorite is "Betcha Got a Chick on the Side." My neice was just about seven years old when that was on radio and she'd belt that song out like she was really feeling it!❤️

I remember that at my college radio station we would occasionally stop the turntable at the dramatic pause in the middle of the song for a few extra seconds just to mess with the listeners. 😁

I've seen them live a half dozen times! I did security for them at Ramstein Air Base in Germany when they did a USO show there.

Now, listen to the BEST Pointer Sisters song, Automatic. Such amazing vocals on all their songs but the vocals on Automatic are stellar!

One of my favorite groups love the Pointer Sisters. An old friends played guitar for the Pointer Sisters in their early days and told me of the struggles they went though to make it, makes me appreciate them even more.

6:47 - Actually Jay, the sisters were younger here. This song was released in 1978, while as "Jump" was released years later in 1983.

They are younger here than in Jump. This song was from 1978, Jump was from 1983. Slow hand is another great one they did.

This was the first Pointer Sisters song I heard. I heard it plenty when I was a kid. I didn't learn until years later it was a cover from Springsteen, because I didn't hear his version. The first hint I got that it was a Springsteen song was when Robin Williams did a parody of it during one of his stand-up routines, singing it like Elmer Fudd. That CRACKED ME UP!! XD There's a video of this somewhere on YT.
Suggestions for The Pointer Sisters: "I'm So Excited," and "Automatic."
Also, check out Lake Street Dive's cover of "Automatic." I'm a tough customer when it comes to covers, but I like this one.
