  • So this is what I've been doing during quarantine.This arm is just a proof of concept, there is a crazy amount of room for improvement, I made a super basic setup to see how tricky this project would be.

    *I believe you're control problem comes due to axial rotation between the ball and cup of every segment. If you incorporate a four nub design on each ball that is set in an intersecting pattern, and a corresponding set of grooves in each cup it could allow for movement only on the x and y axis and prevent rotation through its core.*

I would love to make something like this, but can retract and expand into/out of a backpack, so it has some more realism, but i am only 12 and will most likely need a degree in something in college for something like this, but this is my dream, to make it a reality. I am also in a poor family, which will make it very difficult.

    if you can combine this tech with prostethis tech i think yu will have a functioning prop of the movie
    (edit)
    yu can control it with muscle contraptions or even custom sound controlled arduino

  • @MrSeanmcgall
    @MrSeanmcgall 2 года назад

    I think the problem lies with the control u get from having 3 wires only, that's 3 points of force, and u need more for precision and maintaining a stable motion. Id add smaller circular disks in between the parts u have, that have holes all around with wires running through, so u dont lose ur design aesthetics.

  • @ekojar3047

    On a serious note. I see what is causing it to look a little funny, the cables can tighten and loosen, but there is no way to push the arm in a direction, only pull and let gravity do some work. Their might be a way to simulate a a push by using the other two motors. I am not sure how those old telescopic antennas work on old cars but there might be a clue in that too. Maybe possibly springs around each cable wit
    Ll give it that push for more stability ?

    That’s awesome! Have you considered using some kind or rubber internal structure to keep it up right? That way when the string isn’t pulled taught it will return to an upright position due to an elastic center.

      I know your joking but fore it to be able to hold that much it would need to be made out of a stronger material but that means it would be heavier and if you want it longer that’s even more weight not only for you but for that first little motor of the arm

    been looking for ways to make said concept but , its hard to control in general. i have nothing online since i only make it on paper, you think more pivot wires would help strentgh and articulation? ive been thinking on if i ever get to the point your at. at looking at a learning algo, that maybe learns best combinations of pulling certain wires to get a certain shape, but i have no clue where to start coding wise
