This is great, I was using a Vlookup and had 4 and 5 digit numbers in my look-to array but 5 digits in the look-for list. I had to quickly (easily) add a leading zero to my 4-digit numbers, the Custom Format worked the easiest but I kept your other examples, too. Thank you.
Thanks. That was very helpful. My work has fund numbers which are six numbers in length. The earlier fund numbers have zeroes in front, and I've been struggling with the silly green triangles for ages, which irritate me and always reappear. It's never been satisfactory to me to treat the numbers as text and to use a leading apostrophe, so will be using the special mask function from now on. Ta!
Need to learn how to add a zero before a number in Excel? Let Sharyn show you how.
You are stunning clear and to-the-point, obviously my first choice for reference. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
