Another great video mate 🙂 thanks, I rented an auto 86 on a trip to Auckland once, the auto was actually decent for a torque converter, the steering was amazing and way better than cars price point would suggest but you are so right… it needed more power!
@@KiwiCarLife I had a manual V35 Skyline coupe with everything done on it, Supercharger, suspension etc etc etc, shame I sold it recently, would have been a good car for you to review
Great video I owned one from new when they were first bought out and the power wasn't impressive, I was always curious how it would be with forced induction. I test drove a new GR86 the other week and the new displacement solves the problem, it's a real gem.
Now that is a great car! Great review too! This is the sort of car I would enjoy driving over the remutaka hill in, not crazy power but a great all round package!
I really like the old 86. I love the new 86 even more but I'm really hanging out for the G16E-GTS powered 86 that Toyota is currently rumoured to be developing.
Hi. I've been following all KiwiCarlife episodes. Please give us Mitsubishi 8Gen Legnum/Galant VR4. I know you will give good compliment on that. Thanks
Okay I have a couple of questions A. call me a idiotic car enthusiast but an automatic? Seriously? Who would Supercharge an automatic Toyota 86 B. I would love to do this to an 86 if I got one but I would be scared with reliabilty. C. This is such a cool car keep up the great videos!
Having lived with both, the 86 is much more of an all round package, and to live with on a day to day basis it’s so much easier. Driving wise the 86 is much more of a go kart to just throw around. I’ve only owned that one for 5000km so i’m yet to really have any long term ownership experience, but it’ll be interesting to see how reliability compares. Over here that was a lot more than a 370z would cost lmao
I guess the reason as to why the gt86 got a underpowered engine was because Toyota knew that this car would be popular in the aftermarket scene, in terms of power mods.
They just wanted to make it fun, look good, and affordable for people. A turbo would add cost and weight so the handling would be negatively affected, and it would basically be a 370z at that point.
Thanks@@KiwiCarLife now the tricky question, what would you say is the short list of great to drive, more powerful rwd cars for comparable money to a super charged GT86/BRZ?
I kinda wish lexus had done a turbo version of the 86. It would be a good way to justify the price hike for the power
Ooh yeah that would have been awesome
GR86 2025
Why would anyone turbo this. You supercharge it like this guy. Night and day difference

Yup agree

Yeah hopefully gonna do the new gr86 at some point too
Now that is a great car!
Great review too!

Yeah for sure
I wish I could subscribe multiple times, you deserve it
Haha thanks man
Ohhhhhh yes, brilliant idea. I bet this was fun to drive!
Absolutely, really cool

That road through Whitby is a good windy road
Indeed
Good stuff keep it up
Thanks
I just bought this car!!!
This exact car :)

Maybe one day, got an Evo 5 review coming

Yeah bit odd I know but was still cool
_another great review, can I ask are the modded power ratings you provide @ wheels?_
Nah that's a rough estimate me and the owner made at the crank
Going in for a dyno run next weekend. Will update
@@ThomasWitham awesome 👍🏼
I like that wing, what is it? It looks shorter than the Australian Aero wing.
It’s a Tommy Kaira
Yup
Is it worth getting a 86/brz and supercharging it like this one or would you be better off spending a little more and getting a 370z?

Personally, while this is cool, it would just cost too much to make reliable. And would still get walked by a stock 370z. It's up to you
Would you do PFL and FL comparisons to CU2’s?
Yeah already done that
certainly
Lovely car
I guess the reason as to why the gt86 got a underpowered engine was because Toyota knew that this car would be popular in the aftermarket scene, in terms of power mods.
Yeah that's true, or possibly because they didn't want to make it faster than the WRX or STi
They just wanted to make it fun, look good, and affordable for people. A turbo would add cost and weight so the handling would be negatively affected, and it would basically be a 370z at that point.
What's the cost to add the supercharger, and with that extra cost could you just get something that is better as stock?
Yes I’d say just buy something faster stock

@KiwiCarLife good list, thanks. I'm not sure they're all 'in budget' but will have a look on trade-me
I bet you have looked into transplanting the Lexus V8 into the Toyota ?
Haha nah doubt it would fit
Did u do the supercharger kit the guy who owns it now is claiming he did all the work
Nah he definitely didn’t haha it came like that from Japan
@@KiwiCarLife ahaha
Kiwi
Yes
Not gonna lie, everything was going great until you mentioned it's an automatic lol.
HAHAH I mean fair enough a manual is always better but hey it wasn't terrible
Automatic? My condolences.
Haha
seems very undramatic to be honest..
I guess superchargers are quite undramatic in nature. Being auto doesn’t help either
Automatics are pointless
Oh are they now
Mates its a GTS not a GT
Yes
