For young Sheldon Cooper, it isn't easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn't always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naive Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father, George, is struggling to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn't understand. Sheldon's mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son. For 12 years on "The Big Bang Theory," audiences came to know the iconic, eccentric and extraordinary Sheldon Cooper. In "Young Sheldon," audiences get a chance to meet him in childhood, as he embarks on his innocent, awkward and hopeful journey toward the man he will become. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory," narrates.

I really do like your speech about high school and education. I didn’t need it because I’m currently in university, but it was still nice to see you speak passionately about this subject. I completely agree that at least a high school education is the least every child should complete before entering the work world. Not that all of it is necessary, but after having done some actual work, not necessarily my subject work in high school was required - there are some skills I happened to learn during my high school years.

it might be because I'm,for the first time, going completely blind in a season of this show, but I do agree, this one is starting amazingly well,I've been hooked and I've been laughing at these episodes way more than usual!
And,as much as I'm like "George, stop, don't do it",I'm excited to see what we've been told in TBBT being shown to us to such an extent,if Brenda actually is the one he's gonna cheat Mary with that is,and, honestly,George and Brenda really seem to be made for each other, they have such chemistry.
Also,I sympathize with Brenda on a personal level, and I'm not gonna add anything else to that, period

Circumstances caused me to drop out as a senior. I'm 48 and have had an interesting life. Never got a GED , and never felt the need to. I became an artist on Venice beach for the last 30 years and for awhile was the 2nd most photographed person on the boardwalk. Life experiences are the most important thing. Never regretted any of it because I wouldn't have done the things I've done or made the friends I've made. Just because something works for some people doesn't mean it's right for everyone. You got to do what you feel is right for you, not because it's the societal norm. Just my 2 cents. Love your content. BTW.

i'm on the opposite side of things to you, i quit school at 15 in the UK, mostly due to the school i was at being an abusive dump (it got shut down in 2010 at least) i then spent 2 years doing bugger all, but at 17 i decided to go to college did graphic design for two years (had to do maths and english to get them to GCSE standard) then went to university, where i did marketing for 3 years plus 1 years for my Masters degree and now i am a Marketing Brand Managers in the UK at Continental Tyres,
for me school was torture, the students were from rough parts of the city and the teachers were bullies, i loved learning hence why i went to college, uni and then masters but school could not teach me the things i wanted nor could they teach what was needed for the marketing field, the only decent thing i learnt from school was socialising and to make sure i save up ready so i can send my own kids to a private school
but all of that was late 90s early 2000s and i know the UK requirments have changed and that people are forced to stay in school until 18 now

    29:40
(German here and sry this got way longer than I meant to, also TW for academic trauma)
my principal made my high school life a living hell (seriously, if hell exists and I end up there, that is gonna be it),
he LITERALLY tried everything in his power to keep me from graduating!
Even though I actually had quite good grades
(apart from the last semester where I barely attended due to mental health reasons, but always had a doctors note and STILL did quite well in my exams)
he just couldn't stand that he couldn't control me (and that I did good with little attendance) and while he was advocating how much our school cared about mental health, he always played hobby therapist in his student meetings and knew EXACTLY which buttons to push, so you would end up crying EVERY time.
(I also made sure that my attendance was high enough to graduate, but once you have a Burn Out, you have to catch up to the others and that starts a vicious cycle of "do I study for exams or show up, because I can't do both")
There are stories about how he treated some teachers as well
(my maths teacher literally came into our classroom one day and said "Okay, this school sucks, any suggestions where I should go to?")
but that's a whole other thing.
The time in school was actually so traumatic, my brain has surpressed most memories.
And when I say, he tried everything, I mean he got in contact with the school board and with lawyers and all that shit
(we couldn't afford anything like that, my mum is single and a nurse and we have cats)
and I was extremely close to "giving up" a lot of times and I would have NEVER made it through without my English teacher
(well, former teacher, the one I had at that time was in league with our principal and gossipped about me in the teachers lounge and tried to get me into trouble while being UNBELIEVABLY nice to my face [which was really extremely confusing for me as an autistic person (not officially diagnosed at that time, but other diagnoses)])
(side note: typical ADHD comment with all those parentheses 😅😂)
because this amazing teacher got me the background info I needed
(since she was obviously in most of these meetings + teachers lounge as well)
and kept fighting this shit with me (she transferred to another school the same year I graduated)
Oh, also, I LITERALLY did not know until a few weeks before my final exams if I was even allowed to take them!!!!
And unfortunately I remembered too late that I had to put an extra form in, so I would get my extra time (like I normally would) for the final exams and just CONVENIENTLY no teacher thought of asking or reminding me in any way
(yes, mostly my fault, but come on, I had just put in the form not too long ago and had a lot of other stuff on my mind),
so I had to take those extremely long and mentally draining (especially if you can't focus for long periods of time) exams without getting my extra time...
I did graduate in the end, I just REALLY regret that I barely remember everything he put me through, because I had planned to go to the press to expose him and get him fired, so he could NEVER do this to another student again (I wasn't the only one, but I think I was the worst case scenario)
I tried to format it in a way that it's not too hard to read 😅 Sorry for rambling, but that topic riles me up a lot, because it REALLY messed me up 😅😅

I think what Cody wanted to say was: even though Georgie got out pretty fine in the end, as shown in TBBT, in today's context, quitting school is just going to make everything worse. Your family, your life, your financials can be a nightmare, if you don't get a diploma, when you are an adult, you are just going to be explored and getting susceptible to be abused.

I know that I never dropped out of high school, but came very close to getting detention; it's not my fault that I live 20-25 minutes from my high school; I still dealt with traffic & was late 4/5 times. My teacher even told me that if I was late 1 more time that week, I was gonna get detention. Told my mom about it & she was mad.... Also had instances where I arrived early, but the teacher closed the door on me, I would asked to enter & it was a 50/50 chance where I would enter, or spend the next 2-4 minutes walking to the front, get a late slip, then walk back....
There was 1 time when I was on time, but made myself late; my class were learning how to use our lockers for the first time. THe next week, I got to my middle school early & instead of heading to the classroom, then locker, I went straight to the locker. My teachers didn't see me until after the bell rang.... I never got into the locker that morning & was sent to the front for being late.
Finally, in elementary school, I've had moments where I arrived SECONDS before the first bell for class rang, so I was still late....
I know that this was slightly off-topic from what this video was, but I've had so many issues with school, this had to be relatable....

"Nowadays you need a diploma" This wasn't nowadays, this is the 90's when nobody gave two shits about whether you graduated or not. Georgie isn't getting anywhere with high school. He has a job, one that pays pretty well (For the time) and one he likes and he's good at. Him dropping out to pick up more hours, and therefore make more money, should be perfectly acceptable, especially, we all know a diploma isn't going to help him. Life experience and having a stable job, which he does have, will. And speaking as someone who did graduate, 10 years into my adult life and nobody has yet to give a shit about my diploma.

I can't stand Dale. I didn't like him when we were first introduced to him because the Missy thing and I never warmed up to him. He didn't give Missy a chance because he thought she could do it, he did it because he wanted in with Meemaw. And his mood fluctuates so much. He fired Georgie after that money was stolen because he was angry with their meemaw, and only took him back on once he patched things up with her. With the dropping out thing, I was officially over him lol. I know a lot of people thing he has redeeming qualities but I just can't with him.

I still take the same low wage as people without a high school diploma , and very often , if you are really talented craftsman - like plumber , or electrician even without graduation , you are able to make like 2x / 3x or even more money per month than college graduates . So :) sorry for wall of text .. but it really depends .. and we already know , that Georgie will be King of tyres in the future 😁🤣

Wait a minute Cody. What happened to "let your kids follow their passion and do what they are good at."? Georgie is good at sales. So shouldn't you let him quit school to follow his passion?

30:25 at most, you've used 1% of the math you've been taught in highschool and everything else in it was prep for university and you're never using it again in your life. And at jobs which require maths before that stage in education, they have been using calculators since their existence.
And if technology dies down, lost years of hischool will be the least of our problems because humanity as you knew it will be dead.

Tl;dr, what you learn in highschool is glorified trivia which have been regurgitated over the ages, and the reason Highschool is necessary is because the government mandates it, just like obligatory conscription is a thing in some countries.

The way I see it is Judas did what God/Jesus needed him to do. FYI: I am 75. When I see something, you are reacting to, I watch it. I have 2 AAS and a BA with honors. In High School I was College Science Prep, but I was in Sub-English.

Ehhh, I tried to finish highschool. As pointless as I think it is, I tried. But, when I turned 18 I moved away from my family asap. When I tried to enroll myself into the new school, that was my old school, I was turned away because I was already an adult or some BS. So I figured I would get my GED. Never got to it. Now I'm 25 have a job that pays more than most of the people that I went to school with. I just say I have a diploma, no one asks to see it. No one cares. It's just a piece of paper. Always has been, always will be. As long as you're not incompetent or know the right people you'll be fine.

Of course I'm not suggesting "Don't be educated". I was way past a highschool level when I got dropped.

"All the good he did is about to be diminished" Cheating is not nearly the worst thing in the world that you make it out to be. Someone cheating, especially when they don't feel appreciated of by those around them and made to think how they feel doesn't matter, does not take away from all the good they have done with their life. Now, I'm not condoning cheating, but I'm saying there are understandable reasons as to why some people do it, and they shouldn't be made out to be the worst person in the world for it.

So no, it doesn’t diminish everything good that he’s done however, cheating is cowardly and if you’re unhappy in a marriage, then you get out of the marriage.

@@ItsTotallyCodywhile i do agree they should get out. People are irrational and make mistakes in the moment without thinking straight. One can argue that they should take the time out to evaluate before making a decision like that. however consider how many times in your life you have made a mistake/decision in a moment you yourself knew you should've done better but didnt.
Its very human to take the easy way out whether we think its right or wrong and we are all guilty of it.

Honestly this season is good but for me personally Missy’s character becomes almost unbearable to watch at times. I get they go for the whole moody teen angle for the character but it gets pretty annoying

I joined the military in 2011 with out a GED or Diploma. You can join without one its just slightly more difficult. In reality there should not be a restriction like that. I know so many people who were degenerates and minor criminal who joined and it put them on the path for success after they left some never left.

I think it's kinda hypocritical of you to say people should be left alone but you judge Georgie for dropping out of school. And no, you don't need school if it's not working for you. There are plenty of graduates who work for many years trying to pay off their student debts while failing to make ends meet. School works for you when you know that you aim to stay in and keep employment. Let's maintain less hypocrisy and be honest please.

    • @ItsTotallyCody
      @ItsTotallyCody  6 месяцев назад +1

okay so let's be honest then. you didn't watch the full thing I said and it shows because I literally said no one needs to go to college. High School at a minimum should be attended and completed. Maybe work on your listening skills since clearly you didn't use them here. Have a good day!
