this is the only version of the song I love listening to. I can tell by 1:42 that you just understand/love the music, the way you waited as if for the perfect moment, and then bam we are hit with the low note AH IT'S JUST SO PERFECT !! I can't describe it, but the timing was so perfect, as if it were meant to be played that way in the score
This is obviously a great influence later on Duke Ellington, as his number, Reflections in D, shows a great reminiscence of Claude Debussy's chord structures here. Ellington's work then later influences the great jazz pianist, Bill Evans to play that Ellington number many times in his live performances.
Respectfully, I think you misread some of the notes at the end of the piece (either that or I did myself, when I played this many years ago). Otherwise, this was a fine performance.
I started it this summer. It wasn’t very difficult technically at all, Debussy definitely wrote it for the pianist as the notes fit under the hand perfectly. The biggest challenges had to do with voicing and decisions about keeping the tempo vs allowing it to breathe.
Interesting! Yes interpreting this piece seems very difficult, you must keep this airy/light vibe at all times without understating the drama. Funny how different Ravel and Debussy's writing is qua comfort: Debussy is indeed writing with the pianist in mind where Ravel sometimes writes almost intentionally annoying ( Jeux d'eau, Scarbo)
@@felixwidmoser I might not rate him as “genius” as other people might (I personally consider Chopin/Rachmaninoff “genius”), but I do think Ravel wrote some beautiful music

Yep there are some misread notes on this
@@NoahJohnson1810 Still . . . I loved your performance of this piece. Thanks for posting it.
How long have you worked on this? What were the main difficulties you encountered? I'm thinking of playing it myself.
