I have lived in Florida my whole life, and one of my greatest treasures in living here is reading Tom’s lyrics about places here in Florida, and knowing EXACTLY what he’s talking about.
@@shawnmurphy9667 and @Dance Ze Thing ... Since no one has ever replied to each of your comments, I will! 🤗 But, after all the years it's been since you left your comments above, I have a feeling you each must have become aware since then, that there was indeed a movie made about our Music Hero, TP, and his Heartbreaker band brothers, by Director Peter Bogdonavich, in 2006. The official Premiere was in 2007 in L.A. And the title was: "Runnin' Down A Dream!" 🙌 🎩❤️🎶🎸📽️🎬
I lived in Gainesville when Tom & the band Mudcrutch were there. His band lived across the street from, and Tom dated, my friend Molly McKnight. I remember going out to one of the band member's house out in the country one day. I don't remember much except that Tom was a very nice guy, a kind guy. Very humble and down to earth. So glad he did so well. Molly - if you see this look for me!
I was in school at UofF in 1985 and used to jog around Lake Alice at night! Seems crazy now! I also knew a local gal who went to High School with some of his old band and told me about seeing them - Mudcrutch - at Dubbs. My Dad graduated UofF in 1962 and took me the Devil's Mill-hopper when he visited me (Faye Dunaway was in his class yearbook) . His older cousin played both football and baseball at UofF during WWII and used to catch the train back to Tampa from G-Ville. This takes me right back. Too bad Skeeters is long gone and too bad Tom left this world way too soon ! RIP Tom Petty!
Good stuff. I just graduated from UF and I'm taking a few days to spend some time at my favorite parks and places in town before I head down home. I'm going to miss this town. It's been an adventure.
The apartment complex he was in is called Regency Oaks on the corner of 34th and Archer. At the end of that segment, you can see him cutting through to the Bennigan's parking lot (that building previously housed Genghis Grill, and is now empty). Then he's seen driving northbound on 13th Street past the Bambi Motel (now torn down) and a Chevron (which is now an auto repair shop).
I was born in Gainesville, FL in the same month that this was filmed...could have been the same day even! A lot of easily recognizable spots: Dubs on US 441, just down the road from me. At 1:18 the Bambi Motel on South 13th St. The Chevron station is now a Texaco. Not sure what Winn Dixie that would be at 1:38. My guess is South Main St near 16th Ave. At 1:44 the old courthouse and Bo Diddley Plaza (not sure what it was then) on East University Ave Devil's Millhopper, of course. Again, right down the road from me. At 3:30, turning on to SW 13th St by Tigert Hall and UF campus. At 4:09 looks like Lake Alice At 4:20 Delta Upsilon fraternity on West University Ave. Not sure what that is next to it. There is some high-rise campus building there now. 4:29-5:47 Lake Alice again. I'm surprised how fast the cars behind them are going on Museum Rd lol. The speed limit is now 20mph! Not sure where the railroad tracks at 5:49 would be. My guess is somewhere along US 441 5:51 looks like the intersection of 121 and US 441. What a trip down memory lane.
Holy smokes! This was taken like in the span of days that I was born. So they started filming on a Sunday 4/21. That is crazy! The Devil's Millhopper part was taken the day before I was born. Also, Devil's Millhopper was like less than 5 minutes from my house.
this is awesome. I remember Dubs very well. They had recently changed the legal drinking age to 21 back then and I was only 18 but because all of my friends and BF were older than me, I had my 1st REAL bar experience. There were carpet on the walls leading to the bathroom and it turned out to be VERY useful as the night went on. LOL. This vid. brings back memory's as a long time G'ville resident. GO GATORS!
Someone should make a movie, 'tales of Gainsville', Don Felder's book is a great source and Tom's interviews and the other incid3entals like Lynyrd skynyrd and Stephen Stills. It would be great.
I lived in Gainesville from '69 to 72. One of the guys in the video is Ron Blair ( bassist ), a one time housemate. the other guy, Mike Campbell ( guitar ) was my upstairs neighbor. That era in Gainesville was magical. so many places to play, so many musicians. I even knew Felder ( ya, brain damage.... jus' a little lol ). I don't think there could ever be such a concurrence of people in one place ever again. We played mostly at Trader Tom's Bar, a pretty seedy bar, and quite a few fraternaties, even opened for Skynyrd once in Jacksonville. some strange happenings at the Millhopper in '71, UFO related. anybody else notice that?
Miss you Tom! Your music is part of the soundtrack to my life. My son was rocked to sleep to Full Moon Fever countless times. I wonder if he gets sleepy when he hears it now! By the way, I found sharks teeth in the Devil's Millhopper in the 70's, and petted a huge alligator that Gator Man had up on the bank at Lake Alice. Coincidentally, I saw Gator Man again at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood in 1982. And I've been to Brooker (lived just down the road for a few years) and Micanopy, too!
Just graduated from UF 2015 May. I recognized when he was driving northbound on 13th street and Devils Mill Hopper. Everything else was foreign to me lol
g"ville 82' back in the simple days as a kid. Howard Bishop Middle. Dad was an O.C.S. instructor next to the O'Connell Center. Coach Charley Pell led the winning Gators year after year. When I think of Gainesville I automatically think of Tom Petty.
Ah man where is the rest of this? 😭😭😭 I miss you so much Tom but you’re in a better place now fuck Hollywood when you died I wanted to go with you I was just so fed up with it but I thought about you and those words you said to me so I stayed here and continued to be strong for everybody and my kids
+Jennifer Byrd So your dad is hugely talented.........and he is perhaps one of Randall, Mike, Jim, or Tom L.? No matter who it was, I hope he is well, very well! (Maybe it was Ben?)............. (:
What memories. I was there from 1984-1988. Had Emmitt Smith in a class in '87. Dubs kicked ass and was always serious rock. One night a week ( I think Friday) there was a wet t shirt contest, where only the chicks that stripped would ever win :) . I used to live in Regency Oaks where he does the 3 point turn - . Notice there are no huge GMC Giganticos SUV,s or double cab Ford F-250 shit boxes on the road in those days...
ExposingZionistEvil I've seen other interviews with him from around this time, and while I think that was his natural voice and speaking style, he did seem kinda baked here too, lol.
River Phoenix lived in Micanopy with his family before John from the RHCP murdered him via lethal drink. I've been there many times it's tranquil and serene.
At least David Matthew Nolt Keebler got my $100.00 mountain bike that originally was at least twice that! He destroyed the handlebars & front tire...........He was able to fix it with a hammer! 😁Wow!😀
+Tara Keebler David said I got some freedom! After he fixed it, he said that this wasn't mine anymore! It's his baby! He fixed it!!! Ummm & who ruined it? "Oh that's alright his my kid!"
+pachx79 I'm glad that he recently came out and admitted it was a huge mistake. He says he didn't really realize it at the time, and thought it was just something that symbolized the south. He's very mellow and liberal too which is cool.
I have lived in Florida my whole life, and one of my greatest treasures in living here is reading Tom’s lyrics about places here in Florida, and knowing EXACTLY what he’s talking about.
I grew up not far from Devil's Millhopper. Watching him tour that was surreal.
After watching bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie and queen, I want a Tom Petty movie. Anyone agree, celebrate greatness?
DanzeZingThing that would be awesome 😎

It’s so cool seeing Tom Petty visiting our home town, and it’s so cool seeing my town in 1985!!😍🥰

I can't believe Tom Petty used to clean Lake Alice. Brave man.
I just went through Gainesville over the winter on vacation.. wish Tom Petty could’ve given me a tour
I would have rode in his car any time! Such an awesome insight of a sweet man...
He was the kind of guy who could easily be the world's coolest neighbor on your block.
Good stuff. I just graduated from UF and I'm taking a few days to spend some time at my favorite parks and places in town before I head down home. I'm going to miss this town. It's been an adventure.
i would pay exorbitant amounts of money to have Tom back & go driving around Gainesville with him reminiscing
Wish he was still with us and yeah, they should have done a newer version of this in the 00s or 10s
I MISS HIM SO MUCHHH ;(((
Me too, I just took a solo road trip and listened to every album, I cried through a lot of it. Best musician and man ever!

Bennigan's is now Autozone and Bojangles is where On The Border was located....
Ken Peng -34th & 55th & 75th & Newberry rd
near where ole Danny camped out.....
Ken Peng :)
Thank you! I graduated UF in '85 and wanted to confirm that!
I yelled “Snake!” rather loudly LOL We miss you Tom. You were always one of us.
I lived in Brandywine and Regency Oaks...worked at Bennigan's in the late 80's and early 90's. Great memories of Gainesville.
That is where I used to always go for my birthday in the late 80's as a kid. I always got the Monte Cristo!
I was born in Gainesville, FL in the same month that this was filmed...could have been the same day even!

Lake Alice hasent changed
lots of women in Gainesville if you're looking for romance. funny.
Brian Olson lol it’s true
He and Stan together was nice.
Somebody has a buzz lol...
😢
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume Tom was under the influence of marijuana cigarettes. While driving 😂😂😂😂
Just randomly beeps!! Haa!!
Tom wtf are you doing? Funny.
Petty in his home
He was high-as-a-fucking-kite!

Don Felder minor brain damage. :)

Me & Alexander Thomas Keebler Nolt do NOT have driver's licenses!!! Because of some control freak........I wonder who that could be? (it)!!!!
