To add onto Azul's deck inclusions, he also had a couple uncommon cards that ended up being pivotal to stopping Sander. He played Crobat VMAX which had the potential to one shot Mewtwo V-Union if it ever got setup. This meant that Sander had to use up a lot of time to try and Crushing Hammer away energy so that Crobat could never get setup. Also, Azul had a random Phoebe teched in which could get through Miltank. 4 Marnie definitely helped as well because most decks in Day 2 were running 1-2, if any
There's something about really gimmicky strategies that make you want to cheer for them. Reminds me of the episode of Yugioh 5Ds where Team Taiyo had the whole crowd cheering against the protagonists because they wanted to watch the gimmicky strategy win
For a real world yugioh example, you can find a video of a gentleman by the name of Jeff Leonard taking an Exodia deck to a YCS a few months ago, getting a stream feature match, and getting the whole crowd to cheer for him for the whole anime moment package.
Time rules are always so annoying. I know people don't want to watch 2 hour matches but, man, this is topcut, semis, let them play it out for christ's sake.
I can't believe it's not shintaro itou's mega audino ex deck that came out of nowhere to win Worlds 2016. the kicker is people had resolved to watch the japanese meta closely for crazy rogues after Team Tsuguyoshi Yamato clapped Worlds 2004 with Team Magma deck, and still it happened, shintaro rolls up with mega audino and everyone goes like wait... there was a mega audino ex? and proceeds to dismantle the entire western meta. Insane.
That’s crazy! Taking 6 prize cards in one turn! I was playing TCG Live once and my opponent was using Water type Tera Tsareena ex and took 6 prize cards in one turn, so I actually have seen it happen before watching this.
I have had a 16 prize turn using greninja v union and sky seal stone (or which ever one deals damage to v Pokémon until they only have 100 hp), it was against an eternatus vmax deck in expanded
@@BurtsPTCG you know what, this is logic I can’t compete with lol. With that being said, dragon shield products can be a life saver. Great sponsor to have
I initially thought this was about the Wailord EX deck from 2015. Both this deck and that one came out of nowhere to decent success, even though the Wailord deck did not stick around.
2022 NAIC? Mewtwo VUNION? The card shop on the south end had them in stock, at least they did the Saturday before. This is a sad thing about NAIC not being in Columbus since I don't know if the venue in New Orleans has a card shop nearby.
Did they have 5 though? 👀 Can be hard to find this stuff out so close to the event 😂😭 I haven't been to new Orleans before so I wouldn't know eaither 😭
@@BurtsPTCG From that fateful day, I became just a spectator of the Pokemon world. Fortunately, I didn't like the entire Scarlet & Violet block, the cards and the games. I can't wait for the 10th generation. Let's hope the cards revolutionize the gameplay. And let the games be great and come out on Switch 2.
I'm new to the channel so I don't know if you've said it in another video, but do you collect decks of all the participants in the tournaments? If so, I would like to know how you organize yourself or if you have a list of decks. Thank you very much and good video.
Actually this sort of thing, a rogue deck coming out of nowhere to hit the Final/Win the Championship, is quite normal for Pokemon since the XY era (maybe earlier).
@@BurtsPTCG There's Keldeo EX as well. That's three within approx. a three year span. Considering that's three in a three years and Worlds and US only happen once a year per, that's that. You brag you "played" like it's a big deal. People have played card games for decades and never make a top 8 in a triple-digit entrant tournament. Doesn't mean they're qualified to make blanket statements about the entire tournament history. It's easy for Pokemon to have rogue decks because all of the most important cards for drawing cards, tutoring cards and even most of the silver bullet cards are all non-energy/type based. Ultra Ball and draw 7 Professors and even cards like N, any deck running any type of Pokemon can play these cards. So rogue decks having high performances are rather conceivable.
Right so I went back and looked at every world championship/international/us national event from 2011 till now. From those events 15% of them featured a surprise deck in the final. Which to be fair was higher then I thought it would be but I still don't think 15% makes it "quite normal" as you previously said but if you do think that qualifies for quite normal then carry on 🙏
Tried watching the video without knowing anything about pokemon tcg but i am getting too lost, i feel like you took way too long explaining the meta and specific cards 😐
I remember watching that match live and was like; Pokémon is amazing. That was the beginning of my return to Pokémon.
I know right! Was a mental story 🙌 poetry in motion!
Mewtwo VUnion was really the perfect answer to the meta at the time with each of its effects dealing with a different metagame threat.
For sure was very versatile and tanky 🙏

This is all true! I didn't want to keep stop starting the suspense by explaining the crobat and phoebe but u are right they were a factor 🙏
It does feel a bit weird to watch one of your history video on a format I played in but your story telling is great as always mate
This is true! After chatting to the lads about the backstory I knew I had to cover this though haha! Appreciate your support 🙌

Great video! Honestly one of the coolest decks I've ever seen, and really satisfying to pilot

@@BurtsPTCG very fun combo but hard to pull off and unfortunately often times there aren’t enough Vs to win the game
Wow, that's amazing. I've just been getting back into the game the past few months so had no idea about this. Great video.
Ayo let's go! Glad you liked it my friend! Glad your getting invovled 🙏🙌
Wow this is ridiculous , thanks for the video man!

youre a great story teller. i didnt know there was that much lore to this decks sucess haha
I get all the lore me 👀😂
That luck was insane, love the video

From the video title, I expected this to feature Queendom
Interesting! A lot of people thought it was going to be mega audino 🤣
Just nonchalantly shows moonbreon with out a sleeve😢😢😢😅

I would imagine they would yes 👀
