the trombonist had some sick ideas, everything he played caught me off guard melodically. there was nothing predictable about his playing and everything worked out in the end.
Hell ya Such Sweet Thunder is an under appreciated record that deserves more love. This is such an awesome interpretation of heavy piece. Both the trumpet and bone solos were amazing and the rhythm section did a phenomenal job keeping it grounded.
Outstanding percussionist the lady is, a percursive tap dancing performance in sync with the music ensemble. Oh yeah, a kinda original percursive performance on the human feet. This is indeed jazz at its amazing beauty and best. I'm blown away by the way the band plays. Great performances all round. Theo Kgapola {Benoni}
Duke Ellington was good at getting a particular sonority from his horns. Wynton Marsalis has been able to get the same kind of sonority as a tribute to the Duke.
Wynton less ties and. sophistication . base the count is gone . he was fighting to give the the black man respectability when it was needed . get back to meat and potatoes . I want to feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise love you man .
These 'young Stars' are already old. Let's see Wynton with some young stars. There are may out there, starting perhaps with Joey Alexander who must be 11 or 12. There are Emily Bear (age 16) on piano and arrangements and Nikki Yanofsky (20 I think). These two have already been to Marciac. Then you might add Andrea Motis (21) on trumpet, alto and voice, Rita Payes (17) on trombone and voice and Magali Datzira (19 or so) on upright bass and voice. They are all from Barcelona. If you then need to fill up the sections, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, none older that 20 going down to 10 and at times younger, has depth in all positions in the big band. All of these kids are right up there. The are all present on RUclips so you can check for yourselves. Young means young.
I believe these young musicians are students out in East Coast. They’ve either worked with Wynton previously or studied with him at Juilliard. Maybe some of them never went to Juilliard but at that point, I’d guess that Wynton would know them personally. Joey Alexander was destined to become a famous pianist.. (with the right choices in life)... and I believe the Barcelona singers/instrumentalists get their opportunity through Joan Chamorro or through accomplished musicians in Barcelona. Maybe Wynton would’ve invited her to play if he was in the scene of Barcelona but we won’t know that.. He’s had Joey play with him multiple times in other settings but you’ve probably seen that.
Anthony Hervey m'énerve un peu. Trop de son de gorge ou de flutter tongue. Ça dérange. Un peu comme du sirop d'érable sur une tarte au sucre. Par contre il contrôle bien son instrument.
With this new young talent coming along, you gotta know that jazz will never die.❤

you can see Wonton impressed with the ideas too at 4:39
So much talent on one stage. She makes the dance look easy when in fact it takes years of practice and dedication
A great Duke Ellington composition, one of my FAVORITES! Well done!
You have impeccable taste.

The trumpeter makes it look effortless😀

Awesome... brings back memories of EE 2012
Couple of great individual styles in the trumpet and trombone. Very creative, fits the tune perfect, awesome stuff.
Hey Wynton-good job man! We played together with Chuck Israels back in the 70´s. Split my bread with you and Akira.

I work with tap dancers a lot; they would hate this tempo for the most part. She's doing well.

young also usually means uninteresting. i'd rather listen to someone with a little salt than a 12 year old prodigy any day.

If I’m not mistaken Anthony hervey was 18 or 19 years old during this tour. Not sure about the other
With a DRUMMER like this one .... for me no need for this Tap Dance Lady who has much too much attention on this VIDEO.

Looks like the clown found his home
