Athlete turned motivational speaker Inky Johnson joins The Pivot in an inspirational and touching conversation. Known for his motivational talks and being a man admired by many for his enthusiasm in life, perspective on challenges and making the most of every situation, Inky talks about what helped shape him into the man, husband and father he is today.
Sharing the details of the unforgettable day where a routine play on the field changed his life forever, Inky describes the moment he realized he would never be able to play football again. Taking us through the exact play on the field to waking up around his teammates realizing he couldn't move to the urgency of the ER doctors when he realized he may not make it...this conversation carries so much emotion and powerful moments that will be life altering.
An emotional Ryan, Fred and Channing ask how he has been able to recover and stay so positive when the sacrifices have been so great. Looking at his injury as a life blessing has been hard but also rewarding in making the pivot and finding his purpose.
Along the journey, the people and many athletes Inky has impacted have been numerous from his time on coaching staffs to now touring as a speaker. In particular, Inky opens up about his close brotherhood with former NFL standout Eric Berry who wore #29 in honor of Inky and the two remained close as Inky overcame his own obstacles and in turn, he was there to help Eric through his cancer fight and returning to the field.
Inky stresses that we may not be able to control our circumstances but we can control how we adapt, adjust and move forward...always willing to be stronger than the strongest excuse. A new episode of The Pivot drops every Tuesday at Noon eastern and special drops on Friday afternoons.
Man I really needed this. 2020 I got shot up and ended up losing my right arm. Was in the hospital for 2 months having surgeries every 4-7 days and getting blood clots. Had to learn how to walk and use the bathroom all over again. Would drink my days away to numb the phantom limb and emotional pain. Even got to a point that I no longer felt like a "man" and actually attempted suicide by overdose and would have been successful if a friend didn't find me slump in the car. Of course I had to be Baker's acted and ended up going to a treatment center, but I've been without a drink since February 6th of this year and yeah some days are rougher than others, but I can do this shxt. And my son still accepts me regardless, says my prosthetic is like ironman lol. But appreciate y'all man ✊🏾💜
*Edit post comments* I really appreciate all of the uplifting and support, really got me in here tearing TF up... along with starting a new remote job last week, I'm starting to feel alive again. Can't thrive depending on disability ya know. But may we all not only survive, but prosper through our pivots

I’m currently going on a path of finding my peace. I lost my daughter May 1, 2022 & have been trying to find a peace of mind. My world has been upside down ever since, but I knew I had to Pivot. Like Inky Johnson said “Get Quiet & HEAR GOD.”
I which you peace and understanding. I will pray for you this day forward that you have peace 🕊️. Continue your journey with love.
Im sorry for ur lost family. I understand that pain. I lost my son 07/25/2014 to a asthma attack I can't tell u the pain goes away but its gets easier with time. Find ur peace 🙏🙏

So sorry for your loss. I pray that God continues to comfort you and overwhelms you with His love and peace.
Sorry for your loss🙏
I was like who is Inky Johnson. And within a few minutes I realized I was listening to greatness. Everything and I mean everything Inky said was valuable information that anyone can use as motivation and inspiration. The Pivot is getting better every day. Thank you.
Check out his speech bro this man really tough your soul
Been a Tennessee fan my whole life, so I always knew OF him... But when I found him on one of radio shows everyday I listened to before work and would give his INKspiration(what I called it lol) man it really mad me follow him close. Because if I want my 2 sons listening to anything or anyone it's this guy will explain, inspire them, and instill how to be a stand up individual, it's this man. Like you said "I was listening to greatness"!
That was a powerful statement when he said, "when things get crazy, get quiet so you can hear God"🔥🔥🔥🔥

Salute to inky johnson the greatest motivational speaker. Thank god for greatest. Salute always INKY.
The passion in this man’s voice has everyone with tears in their eyes, including me! The Pivot never fails, they left the other show and created the best show/podcast/open platforms for people to speak! Much love and respect to these men and their guest!
WOW I WENT TO A FOOTBALL CAMP IN SOUTH GEORGIA WHEN I WAS IN HIGHSCHOOL AND HE WAS THE SPEAKER. I WAS EVEN ABLE TO HAVE A LONG CONVERSATION WITH HIM ONE ON ONE AND HE IS SUPER INSPIRING GREAT GUEST
Man one of the best yet. Appreciate you brothers
That’s Dope
I cried a few times watching this one. This is the most relatable episode to me because in the 8th grade the doctors told me I have a brain tumor on the left side of my brain and the right side of my body wasn’t function properly so I had surgery and I was about to start back playing football my 10th grade tumor came back on the same side so I couldn’t play in high school but I’m 2 almost 3 years out of high school but I’m still living 🙏🏽💕
Man all three of em were fighting tears damn near the whole interview. Wild how not just a story but the presence of character Inky has touched them forreal.
Amen 🙏🏿
🔥🔥🔥🔥this man got the hand of god on him and just speaks volumes to his audience!
This interview was great. It immediately made think though " I would love to see a pivot episode with Ryan Shazier" Make that happen please 🙏🏾
Oh my gosh YES!!! A Shazier episode would be amazing!
Literally the same thing I thought when I read the caption.

The was an emotional, yet powerful conversation. The pockets of my eyes were full within the first couple of minutes. Inky is living in his purpose and the prime example of... We plan, God plans and God is the BEST of planners.💞 Maaan, when I say I LOVE this show....I mean that!! It too has Purpose! Keep doin it and doin it BIG fellas!👊🏾
Facts! I have to buy a pivot t shirt 👕
I want to turn this off but his story keep me interested
Amen 🙏🏿
Bro this has to be the Best Episode thus far for me! I actually cried while driving my Semi to my next location due to the fact "I felt every emotion listening to Ink speak his Truth". I Love "The Pivot"
Inky Johnson is such an inspiration and we all can learn so much from him and his experiences. I'm so glad you all had him as a guest on the podcast. Still winning 🙌🏾🙌🏾
UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE HUMAN BEING! ANOTHER SHOW CRUSHED. THANK-YOU INKY, CHANNING, FRED AND RC.
AMEN.
" BE STRONGER THAN YOU'RE STRONGEST EXCUSE "
This is a message that not only I’m going to live by but teach my children as well… what a beautiful quote
Man I relate so much to this interview. In college I cut my main artery in my right arm. I almost bled out and left me dead by a terrible decision I made through emotions. I had to have a graph from my right leg to put into my arm. Had serious nerve damage and was told by doctors I would never use my right arm again. My story changes to me being able to finish college football and playing professional indoor football. I now have started a fitness company that’s inspired by my past injury. The thunderbolt within my logo resembles the scar that’s on my arm. It’s my lifeline to remind me how far I’ve come. Inky I appreciate your words and I’m a walking testimony of being grateful
Wow!!! This brother is speaking life and gems. Am blessed to be listening to this man. God bless you Inky Johnson!!!
Inky’s ability to humble himself and move with the spirit is so potent and important! This episode was so amazing and impactful. I loved every moment of this episode.
Inky spoke at my daughter's school at a ceremony. This dude is great!!
How this doesn’t have millions of views is crazy ✊🏾
Almost didn't watch this episode, didn't know who he is. But knowing you guys and knowing you ain't putting out no bull I gave it a chance. I am happy I did, Mr. Inky is very inspiring, just hearing and listening to his story can uplift anyone!
I've been a inky fan since his days in college. Inky did make it to the league. He made it to the league of life. For that, inky is an all time pro of life. Thanks to the pivot channel for bringing us the interview with one of, if not the best interviews of all time. We can all learn from from this. God bless all involved in bringing us this interview. I know I needed it.
When this episode ended. I once again said to myself “they did it again”. The Pivot RC, Channing, and Freddie T aka Freddie flowers aka Freaky Freddie. You gentlemen are killing it. Fantastic episode. Inky Johnson is a great story teller and has such a killer mindset. Perfect platform to get that message out to new people. I was waiting for Channing to say something crazy but y’all were captivated as we all were by Inky’s story. This was great!
Amen 🙏🏿☀️🙏🏿🛡⚔️👑⭐️🩸
Cried this entire show. The transparency! I have three sons, who all love and play football. I was also raised by a quadrapelegic. Injury is my fear, but hearing this testimony about the promise of something greater, truly touched my heart! Thank you for your obedience to your calling and your gift Mr. Johnson!! God bless you.
The best interview ever, I thought Mike Tomlin was great but this one here was just simply AMAZING. His wife is the beautiful strong woman that he needs. His family is his world and so glad he didn’t quit. Bless you all. These young boys need this man in their lives.
Your intense passion takes a special person to grasp. May God's blessings continue to grow within those of us that are true believers
Honestly I’m so happy you guys got him on the show. His story helped me so much. I was a football player and when I didn’t have football anymore I didn’t know what to do with my life. I’m definitely in a better place today. Inky Johnson top motivational speaker.
Amen 🙏🏿
Didn’t know who Inky Johnson was … I do now!
Excellent interview.. very profound..I held on to every word!! Thank you! God works in mysterious ways and this is God working through
Mr. Johnson! Thank you! God is Awesome 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Bruh this one touching me deep. God I wanna thank you for being able to get up everyday and go get it.
This joint right here hit different for whatever reason. This is my new favorite episode, hands down. I’m very familiar with Ink’s story and speeches, but the fellas were able to pull back some layers on Ink that showed a different part of Ink. Job well done fellas. Ink’s words resonated with my soul. Grace and Gratitude. Extend grace to yourself and to others and be grateful for the small things in life. Everyday my mission is to make it back home to my family. That doesn’t get lost on me. When Ink said that at the end, I said to myself, “This cat gets it.” Well done Team Pivot! You gotcha a certified banger with this one! 💪🏾✊🏾🙏🏾
The fact that they asked him about how it is being a father and a husband was awesome. Also, to see him turn it on so flawlessly. It is because he lives it
Such an inspiration! Thank you for giving him such a great platform to share his story
It seems I hear from God the most when I'm driving, listening to His music, worshiping Him by myself, alone. 🙏❣️
Me to 😊
Man i never heard of this man before but as soon he talked about the moment in the hospital , I couldn’t help it man🤦🏾♂️ . Its a blessing he’s still up and able to live his life but it’s so sad man❤️🙏🏾
Man listening to this. I have taking a lot of things for granted. I wasn't privileged, But i didn't take a lot of things serious in my life. I really need to take a deep look in the mirror and change for the better. For my kids, wife n family
By far the BEST show yet!!! This is a MUST SEE Episode that everyone world wide needs to see and hear.
My fiancee sent this to me to motivate me and I honestly wasn't going to watch it but I'm so happy I did. This has given me the fuel to keep going. Thank you for this fellas. So many gems and this was emotional but necessary
Praying for this crew bc they bring it every time 🙏🏾👑👑👑
This episode made me think about when I had a brain stroke. 5yrs ago this month. I were 29 at the time it happened on my job at my peak in life. Everything was going very well and next thing I know I wake up weeks later confused on what happen to me and why I’m at my moms house. Thinking I supposed to be at work. And I’m screaming out to my mom like hey why I’m here and what’s going on . She was like you don’t remember what happened to you a couple of weeks ago . I replied no what happened she was like you had a brain stroke at your job and I broke down in tears because I knew right then my life was completely derailed. Went from 100 to 0 right before my eyes. I’m blessed to be alive and well I can still do most of everything I use to. I took from this episode. When things happen it’s either going to build you to be better or break you .
Bruh!!! Inky Johnson changed my life his story showed me what living faith looks like!!!! Thank you guys for this conversation
The best episode yet. I tried not tearing up and I tried to trick myself out of crying because I knew it would happen from the moment this guy @inky started speaking 💯
I got to see Inky speak live in person in a small room when I was in PA school. This was 8+ years ago, he was known in that area (TN) but I don't think he was known outside of that region much yet. But he delivered big time. Happy to see he's having so much continued success. Solid dude, no doubt.
Man seeing yall old and grey got me feeling old haha. I watched yall build the nfl when I was a child. This show is special. I am athlete is cool. But not everyone can pivot.
This one here was sooooo emotional! I'm fighting back tears & still trying to work. The Pivot is killing the game! Keep up the great work!
Man this is a powerful story. Been following his career for the last few years and I can never get tired of listening to how he turned his test into a testimony.
This got my heart pumping, I can feel what he saying and his gratitude
This one hit different!! Love what you guys are doing. Can't nobody stop what God has planned for you.. Bless you Ink🙏🙏, Thank u for giving him this platform to share his story with the world..
Amen 🙏🏿☀️🙏🏿🛡⚔️👑⭐️🩸
Praise to God. With faith and determination you can do anything!
Inky greater than the game. We needed his mind and energy over his plays on the field.
Inky J has had an huge impact on my life last couple years!!!
I have been watching The Pivot since it started. And I must say that this episode is by far the absolute most impactful, motivating & heartfelt episode to date! Amazing show that I definitely will be watching again with you my entire household. Thank you to The Pivot for creating this moment...
I’m not going to go into my story, but I was in a similar situation back on 01/10/15 whenever I broke my neck in a car wreck. That was one of the hardest things I have ever been through and made it out not paralyzed. I have had the ups and downs and had to depend on my wife to take care of me. I salute you Inky and keep on motivating the youth.
Zero dislikes as it should be, inky you’re a living legend man big ups and wish you well
Ryan-"You're not Exotic"
Channing-"They say, Is he Brazilian. Is he Cuban"
Ryan-"No one has ever asked if you were Cuban"
Channing- "Yes they did, I said Si"
🤣🤣🤣🤣OMG this started out amazing!!!
This pod is incredible. All of them are. Ya’ll are so good at this, keep it up. There is nothing else like this……..ANYWHERE.
Wow.. just wow, this man Inky is INSPIRING! Thank you to the Pivot for having him on! I've never heard of him but now, I feel like I want to learn so much more about him and his walk. This podcast proves over and over how awesome and genuine Channing, Fred and Ryan and how much we can learn from all walks of life. Thank you!!!
🙏🏿
Best episode yet, Inky’s story, dedication and mindset is inspiring. God is good and will turn what looks like a negative into a positive. A setback into a blessing.
Bro I'm crying bro I'm thinking about my boys that love football they have no fear but I do. I grew up in the hood with nothing but my boys have everything as a man who had no father at all I don't no if im doing everything right getting them ready for the up and down in life all I can do is try my best I have 5 kings
Sounds like you doing it.
I got to hear him speak in person when I was in college. It was a very inspirational and enlightening experience
Absolute blessing of a human right there!! When life starts happening get quiet 🤫 🔥 🔥 🔥
Sheesh. Had me tearing up this whole video
Man, this was my favorite one yet, and I say that after every show. But man, as a Tennessee fan, having watched that exact game with Ink, how heartbroken I was as an Ink fan that he had this injury, the first time I saw video of one of his speeches it made me proud to see him thrive as much as he has. Even though we've had down years pretty much every year since he got injured, it is Inky and his perseverance and motivation to be his own best makes me proud to rep the orange and white!
There are 2 men alive that can make me run through a wall. The Great Herm Edwards and Mr Inky Johnson. What a wonderful speaker. Thoroughly loved the interview
Not many shows can make you laugh and cry in the same episode. Thank you for allowing these men to tell their stories. Every episode is 🔥!
This the one right here. Heard Inky in 2016 my senior year of high school and it changed my whole perspective
Yall done did it again, Super Motivational Speaker after Super Motivational Speaker. Ink has the wisdom of a person 20 years his senior. Keep this shit up. Yall have grateful people out here listening.
This is the best episode on the pivot. You guys are on another level for real, I really look forward to this every week
This was some brilliant stuff, guys… What he is now is more important than a million Super Bowl Rings… he’s doing God’s work on earth.
Amen
How is it possible to be blown away so frequently by guests on a podcast? Fred, Shannon and Ryan you are outstanding! Once again, you did that thang.
You, my brothers, are to be lauded. Inky Johnson was an inspirational guest on the Pivot;
Thanks for creating a space for athletes and non-athletes alike to experience exactly what it means to "find your voice."
Another 🔥🔥🔥 epi fellas! "One of the most underrated blessings is leaving the house and makin it back home". That's as real and truthful a statement that's ever been spoken.💯 Salute King✊🏾
From poverty, to football, to marriage family, sacrifice, life, life lessons this was their best podcast yet this was a powerful one, felt every word.
Definitely sharing this with my 2 sons! The gift and anointing on this man's life cannot be touched. Praise God for keeping him alive 🙏🏽 🙌🏾

This man speaks so eloquently. With such direction, and umph... Like you feel what he's saying. With Clarity, and purpose. Not knowing who he was, I almost didn't watch this one, but I know The Pivot don't miss, so i hit play, and instantly knew this one is purposeful!
