I completely agree with you. If there is something Mike does not need in his music, that is jazz. Those jazzy riffs make me think of afro american alleys instead of nice highland misty meadows.
Anyway, I really appreciate Maggie's work. I have always admired her voice and singing. Mike's best songs are those where Maggie sings. (Barry Palmer, too)

The bagpípes, the lyrics, everything is about Scotland, and Scotland does not have anything to do with jazz. I am not saying that jazz is worse or better, I am saying that jazz does not fit in this song at all. Does it make me a racist? Do you think that telling wine from soft drink when eating pork makes you an alcoholic?

2.11 there was some power there still. She still sings very well in my opinion, I mean there is nothing technically wrong, she isn't flat or lacking the range. She just isn't belting it like a 20 year old and the echo is also making it hard to hear how hard she is singing. Its hard to project yourself as you get older, so some power is lost. I wouldn't say its pitiful, she still sings some songs with more power than this - she had been singing it for like 30 years and might have been a bit bored of it too, or tired from the rest of the set list. There are plenty of examples of where its not weak. Also remember when you see clips from the past she might well have been miming (especially in the 80s), whereas this is live so wouldn't sound the same the anyway.
