    Fun Stuff
    I currently training in our 7A with 7hrs accumulated
    My instructor suggests 100kts in pattern, 80 on final full flaps, 70 over the fence, chop throttle at threshold
    He states the flaps add Drag and hardly any lift
    We don’t use boost pump unless of an emergency and land with the prop pitch as it is adjusted at 24square Cruze
    I’m fortunate to have an excellent instructor which has 52,000 hrs flight time 100 hrs in RV’s
    Beautiful Landings

      Those are good speeds. I find myself a little faster in the pattern and abeam the numbers at 85, base 80 and final at 75 till the numbers. I have found that I need a little power in vs chopping the power to ensure a smooth wheel landing. I have tried a lower speed to touch down at stall speed for short field practice but you have to be spot on with power and speed. Always fun to practice.
      Thanks for watching and the comment!

    Good to get out again eh? the weather here at home (Dryden Ontario) is finally looking like I might be able to get up in my RV6. been -25 to -35 for the last 3 months :(

      Ok ok I’ll stop complaining about our weather! -35! Wow that’s cold! Sure makes you appreciate the nice weather when it comes. Thanks for watching!

    Do you ever 3 point the 8? My 8 really feels good with wheel landings.

    • @therv-8pilot
      @therv-8pilot  2 года назад

      I have tried to 3 point land mine but it is pretty hard to with little weight in the back. I do wheel landings 100% of the time on hard surfaces. On grass I try to do 3 points but it’s tough. I’m sure it has to due to my tailwheel skill level.

    Nice landings! From what I see you are landing 3 points with full flaps? What is your approach speed on final?

    • @therv-8pilot
      @therv-8pilot  2 года назад +1

      Most of my landings, 95%, are wheel landings! I find 3 point landings difficult in the RV-8. It’s more at my lack of tailwheel time I’m guessing. The Citabria and C-140 were much easier. I typically hit the fence at 70Kts IAS.

      @@therv-8pilot thanks for responding. I'm about to fly my own brand new built and I am asking lots of questions to many RV-8 pilots. I'm assuming your wheel landings with full flaps? Or half way? I've heard that wheel landing is dangerous because rudder loose authority while Tailgear is in the air and one may end up ground looping in the end. What is your take on this statement? What do you feel when wheel landing about rudder authority when slowing down? Thanks in advance.

    • @therv-8pilot
      @therv-8pilot  2 года назад +1

      You bet! I love wheel landings and don’t find them dangerous at all. I find that I have lots of rudder authority all the way until I don’t have elevator authority to hold the tail off the runway. Even after the elevator is done I feel I still have rudder. I also have the JDAir steering link instead of the chains. I really like the steering link and feel it gives you a lot of ground control once the rudder is done. With all that said I have 10000 hours but only ~170 tailwheel and consider myself a rookie in this area.

      @@therv-8pilotthat’s good to hear. Your landings are great. I have about 150 hours on Tailwheel on Cubs. Different animal. Only 5 on RV-8. Thanks for replying. Gave me more options to think about it. Happy flights!

    What speed do you use for climb out?

    • @therv-8pilot
      @therv-8pilot  2 года назад

      I use 120 IAS for my climbs and it seems to work well for my configuration. Keeps the cylinder temps low on hot days too.
