StewwithLou - Yes they gave Norman Reedus his own role after he auditioned for the role as Merle. All though he auditioned for the role as merle it came to Michael Rooker but they liked him so much they gave him his own role. Also Daryl and Merle do not exist in the comics aswell as T-dog and a few other i think.
Daryl was also severely abused by his father when he was alone growing up while Merle was away in the army. The brothers talk about it in the season 3 episode after they escape Woodbury and Merle isn't allowed to go to the prison so him and Daryl head off alone. They get in a fight and Merle rips Daryl's shirt exposing his back which is coverd in long deep scars from their dad whipping him with what we can assume was a belt.
Yeah and he had that book...when he and Carol were searching for Beth, he dropped his bag and that "How to Deal with a Troubled Childhood" (or something like that) fell out and Carol saw it. I forgot to add that into the video.
lots of people have great empathy for Daryl. We know his childhood was horrific and he felt very alone and hurt. As an adult he has buried that but shows great courage and humanity while able to be a badass when necessary. Kudos to Norman Reedus. Doesn't get enough credit.
I don't think Daryl has shared his abuse history with anyone. Perpetual shame/guilt is the worst feeling resulting from severe child abuse. It is also what he struggles with most when those he cares about die. He blames himself.
The part about is mother dying in a house fire is also revealed in an episode following Carl shooting his mother. Daryl and Carl bond somewhat over them both losing their mother’s suddenly and as boys.
I think the show was awesome because of Merle and he definitely made the show awesome but I hated his character But without him the show wouldn’t be the same

Awesome things to know about Daryl before he headed to Atlanta, I know he said in 4x12 that he just followed behind Merle but I wish he would've went more into detail like did he ever have a job or did he sell drugs like Merle did, was he apart of a biker gang, did he ever tell Andrea and Amy that he met their parents
It's unclear if he held down a job but it seems like he would have at least one or two... part time or something. He said he did whatever Merle told him they were going to do that day so I am betting that means gang related things, drug dealing, etc. Also no hard fact that Daryl ever told Andrea and Amy about their parents. This could be revealed in the story line from the game in the future. - Thanks for watching!
@@TWDExplained Norman Reedus explained in an interview that at first the character of Daryl was supposed to be a "younger version of Merle" and that the writers wanted "me to be doing drugs and saying racist stuff: but Reedus did his best to tone it down. What I like about his backstory is nothing never establish about how or what kind of abuse. It could had been a violent abuse or a sexual abuse. Both on a serious level since with the whipping scars on his back. It let us as viewers imagine what exactly he went through, and I do like that in character designs. Cause people always go through the trouble of detaling their characters to explain who or what they are. Which it does help, but sometimes you just need to call it how it is and with Daryl character. He just been abuse in some form of serious level by his father. BAM, that it how he got abuse or what form it was, that for us to imagine. I also think it feels real since I imagine in real life no one will ever say or detail their misfortunate events. For obvious reasons, and just say it in obvious hints in their sentences to let others know what they been through. Gotta love characters that know how to make you think about real life when it comes to people.
Daryl is one of those once in a lifetime characters. For me. I relate to him so much, it's painful to even think of. That's why, very early on, I made my mind up, no matter what, I'm siding with Daryl. Always. He has the best heart of anyone on the show, he garners the most respect for doing what's right. His background, don't even get me started. Much like myself, he was a Nobody, as he said. Just drifting around, doing whatever big brother says. Someone who society would shun, but in this particular situation, he's the 1 person you can bet your ass, can keep you alive. He goes from being trash, a throw away person, someone who gets upturned noses, to being the most important person you want and need in your crew, to keep everyone alive, and all the while, never once let it go to his head. He would take on responsibility, major responsibility, even when he didn't have to, but at the same time, didn't want power, turned it down a few times. I found it so fitting that he ends up with dog near the end. He needed dog all along. I'm sure it would have majorly altered much of the show and his scenes, but Daryl seems like the type to rather have a good dog around rather than anyone else. His friendship with my 2nd favorite character, Carol, I found to be so intriguing. Although they've only been friends the entire time, I've said from early on, Daryl and Carol are meant to be together. They make the perfect team in so many ways, for so many reasons.. I hope they don't screw up this last season, part 1 or 2. It needs to end on a good note for a change. Rick, meh, I could take him or leave him. Honestly. Idk, he may have been the main character, but there's just something about him, I can't pin point it exactly, it's none of the obvious, but there's just something, I can't view him in the same light as I do Daryl or Carol. Glen, poor Glen. That's all I can say. He was done dirty... as far as redemption, I believe negans earned it. That doesn't mean I forgot what he's done, or, forgive him, but, have to move past that. It's about survival after all, and after seeing the society Rick and Carl were building, I believe negan had a MAJOR change of heart about everything. Especially for Carl. He loved that kid.. I hope rick is safe, and we hopefully see or hear from him again, cause to totally throw away a character like that, shitty writing. But my main concern all along has been , after all of it boils down, Daryls survival.. he deserves it more than ANYBODY else!

The love/hate is part of the pain! A small child instinctively seeks to love and be loved by his or her parents or caregivers. When a child seeks love and is, instead abused, then that child blames him/herself for being 'unlovable'. That child will continually strive to be "worthy" of the abusing parent's love, no matter how badly the child is abused. In Daryl's mind, deeply, he probably feels that he deserves to have been abused. He still WANTS to love his father, and probably, in his father's presence (in the game) he tried his best to love his Dad. Often an abused person will try to act completely normal in the presence of the abuser, as if nothing had happened. "If I'm good, then s/he won't hit me any more!" The abused person BELIEVES the abuser's words and actions.

Yes, but remember also that Merle WAS up on that rooftop shooting at the people down below in Season 1. That's WHY Rick handcuffed him to the roof! Since he was probably "methed up" at the time, it is also likely that he just doesn't REMEMBER killing anyone/thing.

According to sources, the video game Survival Instinct is based on and canon to the TV Show and the TellTale video game is based on and canon to the comic book. - Thanks for watching!
No problem, it's hard to know everything, I sure don't. I learn lots from you guys. The game is a little buggy (some say lots). I don't get into it really myself but enjoyed the back story.
@@TWDExplained Interesting that Jess Collins is referred to as "Daryl and Merle's half-uncle" but I have searched through that game and cannot find any "backing quotes" from the game to confirm that! Where's the evidence for it?
Hmm I don’t like the game story. If your father is that abusive and your still hanging out with him as an adult that’s even worse psychologically. Bad enough he had only Merle for family than hunting with such a miserable father.
Like I said earlier, Daryl is like most abused kids... he WANTED his father's approval! His viewpoint changes later on, but at the time of the game, he was STILL his father's son. He was a follower. Many abused persons ARE followers because they lack the self-confidence to be on their own. Daryl and Merle (and probably Wil) were very co-dependent.
okay this is just my idea alright. i really reckon they should’ve had a storyline where Daryl had a long lost daughter. that storyline could’ve be built up really strong if they had included it in the earlier seasons and i reckon it would’ve been sweet to see daryl with a kid of his own. maybe they should’ve made the storyline something like daryl and his daughter got split up during the start of the apocalypse and that’s why he never gave up on Sophia. eventually him and his daughter could reunite and then they could’ve build the story from there. but it’s too late now for them to add a storyline like that i know 🤣
Plus that Norman Reedus has been pretty clear that "Daryl has NO game!" and the official information on the show was that, yes, Daryl Dixon IS (or was) a virgin! "Yeah, I can see him having something like premature ejaculation... and then going and crying in the car!" and "I don't see him goin' 'Heyyyyy...' and backin' some girl up against a wall." "No, Daryl's got NO experience! He'd mess it all up, I think." "I like that shy, inexperienced thing goin' on with him (Daryl)."
Everything you said about Daryl's childhood actually was in the TV Series. Personally, I don't think we are ever going to see any of the gaming stuff come to the show. The thing is at this point who even cares, Meryl is dead on the show and the specifics of how any character came to be where they are now isn't necessary in my opinion. So here's hoping people don't try including anything about backstories from the games into the show (I'm already tired of the comic intruding onto the show), lol.
Daryl was not only written for the show he was written for Norman. Norman initially auditioned for Merl.

Dude you have a couple of mistakes in this video. I'm playing survival instincts and if I were you, I'd run through it again
I do make mistakes....can you point them out?

Zombie or a Walker?
Either one if we're just talking about TWD as friends and fans

You may have to try the App........
okay this is just my idea alright. i really reckon they should’ve had a storyline where Daryl had a long lost daughter. that storyline could’ve be built up really strong if they had included it in the earlier seasons and i reckon it would’ve been sweet to see daryl with a kid of his own. maybe they should’ve made the storyline something like daryl and his daughter got split up during the start of the apocalypse and that’s why he never gave up on Sophia. eventually him and his daughter could reunite and then they could’ve build the story from there. but it’s too late now for them to add a storyline like that i know 🤣
Plus that Norman Reedus has been pretty clear that "Daryl has NO game!" and the official information on the show was that, yes, Daryl Dixon IS (or was) a virgin!
I kndof like the walking dead game season one
YOU BEST...
Did he throw a cat?
He threw a string of dead squirrels he had killed. "Hey! Merle! Get your ugly butt out here! I got some squirrels! Let's fry 'em up!"
some guy
Homicide cop.
If Darryl is wearing a red bandana in his left back pants pocket, it means he's a submissive looking for a fisting...😂
He's the most overrated character. FACT.
Nah just to you,kid
That's because he's the best character
