    An old episode, I know... but just had to say what a lifesaver this video is!!
    I shot a holiday property in the English Lake District yesterday (yes, weekend work! 🙄 ) and the complex it was located on had a large indoor heated swimming pool and other facilities. I wasn't expecting to shoot these, but the client asked me to for their marketing website. I did it using the flambient method and a made a composite flashed image of 12 merged shots taken from holding the flash at various points around the pool edge. Turned out a lot better than I had hoped.
    Cheers, Nathan.. if ever in the UK, I owe you a few beers!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍺🍺

    I think you’re some sort of reincarnation of Bob Ross but for real estate photography!! It’s amazing, educational, authentic and engaging!! Great job. I’m going to shoot interior shots of a Airbnb we have and plan on using this as a tutorial.

    Awesome ! first one to say thank you , that seems so simple to compared to the difference you have made for me trying to get into RE photog. i have all the books but sadly i am not as book smart as i would like. at age 59 i would rather watch educational u tube than Television aka Boob Tube.

    Got all of the books (two thumbs up!) and I'm running into an issue of my own making I think. What determines how much power to use on your flashes so you don't wipe out the color on the walls? Is it to lower the power and do more flash shots to composite? Many Thanks Nathan!

      Hi Gary, I cover flash settings in the lighting guide, each setup has a lighting table.

      @@NathanCoolPhoto Thanks! I'll jump back in there and work on it some more. Some come out great and others are pure white so I know I need to get more consistent in my approach so the start to delivery process is the best I can make it.

    Great videos Nathan! Quick questions: What if I only have 1 flash (AD200)? Is it possible to not have the permanent placement and just composite in that light in photoshop? (1 ambient, 3 composites)? Thanks!

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад

      Thanks! There are times when one flash can do the job, and other times when you can gain advantage with other lighting setups, and at a very low cost in many cases. I cover this in my lighting guide, if you want to check that out here's a link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z9KKGCS

    Hi Nathan, I just finished the book yesterday and have bought all yours, enjoyed this one immensely. @tylyf asks about max speed and you mentioned it was in the book, but I don't remember reading that. I just looked through quickly but couldn't find that section, can you let me know where it is so I can re-read. Also, assuming a vacant room with no ceiling fans, is there any reason to not fire a direct flash to get accurate colors?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад +1

      Hi Chad, in the Lighting Guide, in the chapter "Basic Lighting Principles", see the sections "Exposure Settings" and then, most importantly, the next section "Balancing Aperture and ISO for Color".

  • @caprarola26able

    Just so I understand correctly...when you have a dark corner or area that's far away and doesnt get much ambient or flash from near the camera do you always take a couple pops with speedlights to make sure that dark area is evenly lit for post processing? Or is it more of a case by case type of situation? Thanks again!

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад

      Hi Mike, the main purpose comes back to the goals of using flash: getting correct color throughout the entire frame, and then adding light where ambient can't assist. There are a number of different cases when composites are used (or not needed), and each is different, but those are the overall basics based on lighting goals for the flambient technique. I cover it in much more detail though in the lighting guide, here's a link if you haven't checked it out yet: www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z9KKGCS

    With this vaulted ceiling angled away from the room, how does the light not just bounce backwards? Was your xplor 600 very high up on the stand or higher power? I'm always having issues with vaulted ceilings

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад +1

      Keep your flash farther back. I usually keep the flash a foot or two away from the ceiling, although for 15'+ ceilings (this wasn't) I'll just get as high as I can, and just keep it at lower power and/or farther behind camera.

    could you have used a reflector for any of the flashed shots?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад

      No reason to, and it wouldn't have put the light where it was most needed. A reflector bounce helps spread light "into" the room, but it doesn't "place it" where you'd selectively like, and, moreover, with no control over the quantity of light in certain areas. That's where it becomes all the more important to do flash composites, allowing you to be the director or light. I'll show more complex examples where this becomes all the more important, and of course there are other examples of why to do this in my new lighting guide too: www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z9KKGCS

      @@NathanCoolPhoto thank you for the reply! i completely agree with you on this. some of the rooms i have shot with a reflector like this didn't have a beam or divided ceiling so the lighting came out smooth across the room. just wanted to let you know ive been getting lots and lots of compliments on my work and its all because of you! thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!

    Hi Nathan, quick question, my ambient shot and flash/window pull photos never seemed to align properly despite not moving the camera much except changing the shutter speed/ISO. Any advice on this?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад

      Hi Jericho, sounds like you may not have a sturdy tripod and head, and it also may be that you need to use auto align in PS (I show an action for that in older videos, and the advanced editing book).

    • @jericholaw
      @jericholaw 4 года назад

      @@NathanCoolPhoto Thank you for your feedback. I am using a sturdy tripod and gear head. However, it's like hit and miss for my shots. Ambient shot is always off alignment with my flash and window pull.
      Straight off the camera, I already noted the focal length is a tad off, I have tried to change to manual focus on the lense but still, it will be off alignment. I have seen your videos where you do the camera profile corrections and vertical in LR before opening in PS, then auto-align. I tried the same but the alignment was still off and I couldn't do proper flambient or window pull. Any other reason something is wrong?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  4 года назад

      @@jericholaw The next step would be to have a remote, one-on-one session with me to dig into this further. You can email me at Nathan@NathanCoolPhoto.com for more info on that.

    How long would it take you to shoot the entire house with using the speed lights? Maybe a 3000 square foot home?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  Год назад

      I wouldn't shoot a 3K sqft property with speedlights...they can't provide enough power, spread, or speed. Something that would help understand this further is my lighting guide at amzn.to/3Mvfb1x but to get the whole picture (literally) on how to do interiors accurately and quickly with the proper lighting would be to look at my pro interiors online video course at prointeriors.nathancool.com
