- Tackling the "To Do List" one item at a time and discovering that I never get as much done as what I'd hope. A day in the life of Dig Drive DIY.
Neil, another great video. Once again, a walk down memory lane. I can remember being out in the shop working on a project and turn around and see 3 little Indians staring at me and wanting me to change my priorities. Anything from getting the go carts started, even before I had a chance to start a lawn mower, to making a portable basketball hoop on wheels with adjustable height so you could pull it over to the neighbor boys and have a hard game of slam dunk and maybe even a set of num chucks (your mother wasn't happy about this one). As I think back now I can't remember the projects that I was working on, but I do remember the ones that came first.
As to the name of meals, the noon meal has ways been dinner (and the last meal has always been the same as Jesus had., the last supper)
Dad
Thanks Dad. This is obviously where the influence comes from for me. I can remember all those times you've remembered, out there bugging you in the shop. I can also remember that everytime we got the first 1/2" of snow on the ground you were out there getting snowmobiles running cause we just couldn't wait. Until I figured out how to get them running on my own, in which case you'd get home from work on a snow day to a lot of fresh tracks in the yard! But, you always had time to build or fix or assist. Actually, you still do all that on a weekly basis! Thanks for that :)
Supper of sure around here.
I love how you are teaching your daughters to do their own repairs. Making them self-reliant.
Neil, I loved the "ride along" feel of this video. It felt like being able to hang out with you and that was really cool. I'd welcome more editions to this genre.
Thanks! I almost didn't publish this video. Glad you liked it.
@@digdrivediyl love this video. I suggest mothballs in the excavator. Not many or it will keep people away too, lol. K
Supper is what us Hoosier’s call it. City folks call it dinner.😁
I love how the casual vlog slowly devolved into a typical over the top production!
Did it? I have a problem... 😬
@@digdrivediy Not a problem!
@@WatchWesWork My procrastinating is the real problem 😊
Neil is just trying to keep up with your top notch production skills and values Wes!
You have the sweetest family who are the clear priority and a big part of happiness. That gives the video yet another great dimension. Bravo.
It was like hanging out with a friend. Looks like a normal day, one or two small projects and time with the kids. They grow up way too fast, enjoy.
They sure do. Thanks BB!
Good one, Neil. Thanks.
Neil, you never cease to amaze.
I do have a suggestion/recommendation about your drain lines for your sump pump set up. Personally, I would have installed a one-way valve above the cutoff valve to keep water and whatever else from back flushing into the cutoff valve. Yes, I over think stuff too, just like my dad taught me.
>>>Can't wait to see the new to you kitchen cabinets get installed! That's going to be a great set of videos!
>>>It makes me kind of sad to know that "Brutus" will be giving up his "heart" as a donor for "Bill." I love both tractors and really don't want to see either of them down, but it isn't up to me and you have to do what is right in your situation.
>>>The gas overflow.... Yeah, what can be said about that? Possibly have the overflow run into another tank below? I saw that you had two tanks there but what I don't know is if they are the same type of fuel or is one gas and the other is diesel.
>>>Dude, night owl much? Sleep is kind of important so you don't forget little things, like keys, LOL!
>>>Mice in the mini excavator.... Plug any holes into the cab with steel wool or spray foam insulation.
>>>Unwanted raccoon visitors in the wood shed. Yeah, the tops of the walls aren't closed off so until you solve that little conundrum anything can take up temporary residence until the weather gets warmer. The dormers need to be closed off too. Hardware fabric is great for this unless you have scrap wood available. Installation is going to be a pain in the butt, but well worth it. Personally, I'd use both. Wood to close the dormers/tops of the walls and then cover all of it with the hardware fabric so they can't chew a new access hole to get in up there. The walls could use a covering of hardware fabric too for the same reason, after you have burned up all of the wood that's in the way.
>>>Love the cats!!! I thought you only had the one pretty grey and white beauty. Oh well, the other two must get camera shy unless bribed with food.
>>>So what if your videos are late! $h!t happens my friend. "Don't sweat the small stuff, because it's all small stuff."< direct quote from my hubby who is from Muncie, IN.
>>>Time spent with the twins and family is always time well spent. I'm pretty sure you have figured this out, but here is a reminder anyway.
Thanks for another great video! Talking to your camera "Off the Cuff" takes practice. No one get's that right the first few times attempted. Keep up the great work you do.
P.S. Don't forget to change the oil in the dump truck and fill that fuel tank 🥰🥰
Hey Susan! Appreciate all your poignant and thoughtful comments. I've been behind this week but really enjoyed getting to come back and discover your comment. That oil change for the Dump truck is near the top of my list now!! Hope to see you again next weekend. Working on a video now. Take care.
@@digdrivediy Thanks for the update 💖💖 Keep up the great work on those fabulous videos!
Great farm country!
Great video like always
Thanks Aaron!
Really liked this. Can't put my finger on exactly why, but still really enjoyed hanging out.
One log at a time. Here to watch. Same here on honey dos. Sleep well.
Thanks John.
Kids always come first Saturday can go by the wayside as long as long as the kids and Mama are happy The work will get done next weekend 😊 Dinner is what we call. Goodnight from Comstock Park Michigan
Great advice
Moth balls keeps mice out of my mowers during winter
we have always called our evnin meal super and noon is dinner and every one knows the first meal of the day ..lol.but i am a farm/cattle guy born and raised & Proud of it !
Nice video, different but fun. You're busy. Thanks.
This was FUN Neil, I think your daughters have potential 👍🏻, they were hitting the balls pretty good 👍🏻, one just flew over the camera 😳😉😅. Thanks for sharing and have a great week 🙂🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
They are super anxious for softball to get started and I'm right there with them. Fun times! I edited out a bunch of misses though😉
My evening meal is supper! In my event I put those solid bate blocks in it. I can’t keep the mice out so I feed them! They exit for water, hemorage, and never come back! I’ve tried all the rest, Irish spring, dryer sheets, moth balls. Bait blocks work. They come in for 2 things, shelter and food. So I feed them!!
Makes sense.
Hi neil. As for the mice issue use a product called fresh cab. Its a good smelling mouse deterrent that we use in our camper with great results.
Thanks Brian. I bought some to try out.
When I had campers I always put dryer sheets in the campers to keep the mice out it always worked worth a try good luck
There are always things to be done. I thought it would be easier when I retired from my day job. Turns out I'm busier. How did I hold down a job and get everything done?!? So if you're busy now, don't retire! Good video and I call it dinner. It's a regional thing I guess.
I like this kind of video Neil!
Hey Neil - I really enjoyed watching you spend your Saturday. I live in Canberra, Australia and have a very different life to you, but when it comes down to it, the challenges are the same for everyone, we just have different chess pieces. You'll always have stuff to do, but one day you'll turn around and your girls will have all grown up. It looks like you're really enjoying these years with them - you're all so lucky to have each other.
Thanks so much! Great to hear from folks of different backgrounds and situations. Really like hearing from Australia too. Still hard to wrap my mind around the idea of somehow on the other side of the planet watching us in our little homestead. Appreciate the comment and thanks again for watching.
Love the idea of adding to the partially completed to-do list the unplanned things that *did* get done.
I liked the video, glad Im not the only one who never finishes their to do lists. As far as mice in equipment, mice seem to like certain pieces of equipment, and Im convinced there is nothing you can do to keep them out once they move in.
Maybe so. They really seem to like that mini-ex.
Neil, I really enjoyed this style video! Like someone else said it's like we got to hang out with you and your family for the day. I must say that it is impressive the amount of effort that you put into putting these together and getting them out for us to enjoy. It is very much appreciated! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Clay
😅put dryer sheets in unit
Use moth balls for raccoon
We’ve had success against mice with Bounce dryer sheets and also cotton balls with a few drops of peppermint essential oil on them.
Bounce dryer sheets will keep mice out. I put several boxes in my camper every fall and " knock on wood" it works every time.
Neil, I am late to the party as usual but had a full weekend with my 10 year oldest hockey team. Once again...you and I are alike...meaning I have a list of chores but get sucked into other things mostly involving kids or my wife but at the end of the day...a pleasure nonetheless. Fyi, I don't consider that a mini excavator by today's standards lol. I am from Kentucky originally so we called it supper. But, living in Michigan for the past several years I have been corrected enough to call it dinner. HA!
Right there with you! Funny thing, we went to Kentucky to get that "mini" excavator! I guess technically it is a "midi" excavator. That was quite a trip. I'm surprised that it's dinner in Michigan. Thanks for watching!
All dads/husbands can empathize with you on this one brother. My list is a living document...never truly complete.
"living document"... that's good.
Ive used dry sheets and Irish spring or cheap soap inside. But outside underneath or under engine hood/panel I’ve used moth balls prepackaged so come spring I pull the whole bag out at once.
Nice. Good thinking.
Moth ball works… bad thing it about moth balls u smell like a 80 year ol person after u spend the hole day in it !!! Keep up the good work
I woke up today with nothing to do... Worked all day... and got half of it done...!! HAHA Keep up the great work. Appreciated the video.
Ha! I like the sound of that :)
I like the balance of work/family time. Ya gotta do both. BTW, dinner is at 12, supper is at 6 around here. Kids at school used to pick on me because of that. They had lunch boxes, I had a dinner bucket. Lol. Stay safe my friend.
My uncle always says "dinner bucket". Around here it is both lunch and dinner depending on who you're talking to.
Day in the life videos are a lot of fun Neil. Never underestimate what you see as boring and mundane, not being truly interesting to others. What's the saying? "One persons junk is another's..."? Salient points: 1. Kara is boss. 2. When in doubt, see item 1. 3. That raccoon you are going to catch will make a perfect remedy for mouse eviction in the excavator. 4. Kara is boss. 5. Sushi and nachos? 6. Two episodes of "Little House"? (Dude, we gotta talk! ). Remember to set you clocks forward tonight as you are up editing videos again!!! (Right). Love home my brother and will be anxiously awaiting the next epic from Koch Productions!!!
Thank you my friend. I am always keen to remember rules 1, 2 & 4! I dislike raccoons possibly more than mice, so I don't think I'll rehome him to the cab :) To be honest, the girls watched 2 episodes and I caught about 1 full episode between naps! I can't believe how many I remember from watching as a kid! That clock change in the spring is a killer come bed time for me!
Good production skills, interesting topics, well edited, and fun - I look forward to your videos!
Thanks Eric!
You did good. My youngest is 30 still coming to dads to play ❤
Neil, don’t change anything
So relaxing watching what you do!!!
Keep it up o
Thank you much.
Well done, good day. 👍
OMG You are still using Snap Binders??!!
We need to have you talk to Dirt Perfect and Captain Kleeman (both Mikes) about the benefits of the Speed Binders... LOL
A nice 'Day in the Life' video with quality editing!
I know; right? I'd like to try some of those speed binders. Maybe one of these days :)
If at home we have supper, if sometime eating out it’s for dinner…yea makes no sense but oh well! You may not have finished list but you did have some family fun as shown at the bottom
Ha! We kinda do that too! "Wanna go out for Dinner?" if we're going out. "What time is supper?" if we're home. :)
This was a great video. Keep ‘‘em coming!
Enjoyed this video very much grant you i wouldn't want to watch this type of video all the time your variation of subjects is why i enjoy the channel.
Work time and family time. 👍
Thanks Tim!
I enjoyed the video. I really like your setup. It's beautiful around there. To far north for me though. Can't say too much because the Ohio Valley isn't all that great either, weather wise.
Hi Neil, I got to say that I think that this is one of your best videos in my opinion. Love hanging out with you!
I loved it. New subscriber watched 3 of your videos this evening and will continue til I have watched them all.
Thank you Neil.
Wow! Thanks a lot Curt! I'm grateful to have you watching and I hope you continue to enjoy them. The videos have certainly evolved over time since I started a couple years ago.
Loved the video! I do like to see what other people’s “typical” working weekend looks like. And I know what you mean by only getting a tiny bit done
I put peppermint esential oils on cotton balls and put a couple in my equipment to keep the mice out of mine. Great video as always.
That would at least smell good!
It's odd I didn't get a notification for 3 days? I loved the daily vlog video though and appreciate that it cut into your day to film! I bet your glad you didn't put your snow equipment up! Lol... Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!
Man, that's a bummer when RUclips doesn't give it a push. Glad you were able to catch it though eventually! I'm hoping we don't get enough snow! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Neil! Plumbing is always my least favorite!!!! Takes a lot more time than you anticipate and costs more.. not to mention that you have to make two or three trips to your hardware store ☹️. Take care my friend!
Seems like I can't do a project without making at least two trips! Thanks, Mike!
A late video, that's OK. As a fan member (subscriber), I will wait. Again I do relate to your videos. I am sure so many of us do.
Thank you Richard. Waiting an extra week this time around as I type this unfortunately.
Dude, they were cranking em!
Oh yeah 🤣
This was an awesome video! Dads will appreciate you spending time with the kiddos. “It looks like cake.” Great line. 😂 A Saturday lawn care day would be good content too. 👍🏻
That would be a fun video to do. Thanks
Thanks for sharing another great day from the Midwest
I think we all have bigger aspersions than what we can actually get done in a day. But as long as we continue to work on it and enjoy life its still a win. I would recommend a cordless sawzall, i got a dewalt one last year and it makes you wonder how you got along without it. Thanks for the video.
I keep thinking one of these days I'll get one. Can't believe I haven't yet. :)
Nice job. I enjoyed the video.
It looks like an Oreo McFlurry. Haha. Love the video as always.
Very nice keep it up
That's awesome job 👏
I have found that glued up PVC can be saved by heating the PVC and the glue will release.
Doesn't ALWAYS work, but most of the time I can save a fitting or valve using heat.
Thanks for sharing your day.
That might be worth a shot. I've never tried it but it would be good to know in a pinch. I'm lucky to have a next door neighbor that's a plumber so I get a little lazy!
Keep mice out of vehicles and machines by taking and old pill bottle drilling some small hole in it. Put a couple of cotton balls with peppermint oil on the them, close the lid put one on the floor, behind or under the seat and 1 or 2 in the engine compartment wire tied out of the way.
Great video.
Nice plumbing job.
Price of gas going up daily.
Last week $3.50, this week $4.50 🤯🥶🤮lol
God bless.
Yeah, no doubt. I should have bought sooner!
love this! please make more of these
Fragrant dryer sheets will help keep mice away, cheap and easy
I've never seen the golf cart! I need one to go to my neighbors. Tom Cat Mouse/Rat boxes in the equipment, unless you want them alive. One more thing for a different list, I'm still fixated on the dump truck. Put a back up camera on it when you restore it. I bet you love the one in the pickup!
Hey thanks John. There's a video on the golf cart from a year or more ago. I have a backup camera on the dump. One of the first things I did actually. The wire is currently broken to it though so it goes on another list of "to dos"!
New to the channel after stumbling on the pond project videos and I'm really enjoying catching up on your older content. Looks like a great Saturday, some work mixed in with family time.
Absolutely loved the video!!
Awesome video Neil !
Great video.
Nice ride along vid.
Looks like a normal Saturday honey do list that you made for yourself !!! Good video
Great video Neil
Formerly called "supper" (childhood). I'm now a "dinner" person. A live trap is a good attempt for the raccoon with kitty food for a snack (they like it - know from experience). Just don't leave a live trap unattended for a period of time should any animal be stuck inside. You need to stick around and check it regardless of the critter you are seeking to capture.
I put a concrete block on mine or stake it to the ground. Coons run in packs and if one gets caught the others flip the trap and jailbreak their buddy.
I caught our cat the next day. Being there in front of the wood stove makes it easy to spot all day long at least.
The rascals...
@@sassafrasvalley1939 I've learned that squirrels are extremely curious and territorial. They, too, travel in a herd, or pack, or gang (???). They try to become a tenant for life (if in the attic, for example). I don't mind having them around, but they are clingy.
@@digdrivediy Well, what else would you consider catching with kitty food? 😛 hahaha She probably wasn't too happy with your device, I'm guessin ... Remember that she knows a few raccoon friends that may be paying you a "visit".
Great vid man works is important but family is more important I'm the same list as long as my arm
when i used to work for a kitchen and bath company, my boss Bernie would say "stop thinking about it and trust your hands to do the work." great video as always Neil.
That's good advice. Sometimes my brain doesn't give my hands enough credit! :)
Thanks Mike!
I use Fox Pee scent cover on cotton balls to repel any type of rodent. Rats, mice, squirrels in the attic... It's a predator/prey ting. You can buy it at a sporting goods store in the hunting section. Replace cotton balls every few months. Works for me. Good video BTW.
Thanks! Is it stinky? Would be worth a shot.
It smells if you try to smell it, but on a cotton ball in the attic or crawl space or garage, I have never noticed it after putting it out. It is not as pungent as some other scents, but closed up in the cab of a tractor might be a little more noticeable.
That's a full day of activity. Great to see you mix work and family time. P.S. I grew up saying Supper, but for the last 30 years we've called it Dinner!
I liked the video, you could do this style more often
Dryer sheets has always kept the mice away for me, just put them everywhere, I used to have a pop up camper and my first winter I had gotten mice damage and after dryer sheets no more mice😊
Fernco’s are the cat’s… behind. Lol.
I like the idea of two pumps but on separate circuits, I’ll have to keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing, Neil. See you next time!
I love your property, nice and big. What a busy Saturday, sometimes I feel the same way, too much things to do and not enough day light. Love to watch your videos.
Thanks for cheering me up I done got the flu
Dang it. Get well soon TwinStick!
Excellent content as always
Thank you
Neil your channel is just fine. Keep it up...
Thanks
Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍👍
U Defo want a cordless saw I wouldn't be without mine 👍
The evening meal has always been Supper. Breakfast was early, or after morning chores. Lunch was maybe at 9:15 AM and at 3:30 PM and Dinner was at Noon.
If that sounds wrong, then a WHOLE bunch of 'Hollanders' around here got it wrong for decades. 😂
Ha! Sounds about right to me!
That is still more productive than I feel I get on a Saturday. These days our weekend todo list only has 2-3 slots, and we are happy if we get 1 completed.
gotta love seeing kids play outside....hammering rocks...all the best!
Thanks. I'm glad people enjoy seeing that stuff.
Enjoyed watching your day. I have 2 daughters so it’s nice to see your girls growing up. To Do lists should always be trumped by family fun and Honey Do lists. Keep on moving forward, Neil!
Very true!
Another great video, thank you for letting us into your life. Looks like a lot of hard work but more importantly a lot of fun with the family too. You are a lucky man, stay safe.
Yes sir. Very lucky. Thanks.
Neil another great video. Another walk down memory lane. I can remember being out in the shop working on the project and turn around and there would be three little Indians staring at me wanting to do work on their priority projects. Whether it would be getting a go-kart running before I had a chance to even start a mower, or making a portable basketball hoop with the adjustable height so you can pull it over to the neighbor boys and have a hard game of slam dunk or maybe even a set of num chucks, that might not have been the best idea. One last thing, as far as the name for the meals of the day, the noon meal has always been dinner and the evening meal if I remember right Jesus had one of them I think it was the Last Sipper
Neil, your videos are always of good content, fun, and enjoyable to watch. Whatever you and your beautiful family want to share, I'm willing to watch.
I really appreciate that. Very thankful too cause it's always different it seems! :)
Dryer sheets, it keeps them out of my boat !
Busy day!
I was glad to see you added the extra thins you got done to the list, and then checked them off,They count Evening meal is Supper the only Dinner is the middle meal on Sunday Enjoyed the video as always
Neil try to put mothballs in your mini excavator
That's probably a good idea but I was trying to avoid it. I can't stand the smell myself!
Enjoyed the video, nice to see I'm not the only one who doesn't finish a list of stuff to do on day off. Always something to keep you from getting done.
Always :). That's OK though.
Oil of peppermint works great for me to deter the rodents. Great vids. Luv the time with the kids. Making memories there that will last a lifetime. Be safe!
Fresh Cab® Repellent Pouches for keeping mice out of equipment. You can get it at Tractor Supply or Rural King. Great video Neil!
That is probably worth a try Rick. Thank you!
Definitely enjoyed this video! It’s nice to see how others spend a Saturday. My wife always asks me Friday night what my plans are for Tomorrow. My usual answer is I’m not sure. I always have plan in my head but that plan often changes. Take care buddy!
Same for me most of the time Ben.
