- In the final concert of NYO Jazz’s 2018 European tour, Sean Jones leads the band in a performance of Christian McBride’s “Brother Mister” at Konzerthaus Berlin.
In the summer of 2018, gifted young jazz musicians from across the country came together to study with world-class jazz masters during the inaugural season of NYO Jazz. A completely free program for all participants, NYO Jazz gives young musicians the opportunity to perform as cultural ambassadors on an international stage and share a uniquely American musical genre with cultures around the world through an international tour each summer. Trumpeter Sean Jones-one of the field’s outstanding performer-composer-educators-served as soloist and bandleader for NYO Jazz’s Carnegie Hall debut and inaugural European tour, which included performances in the Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain. World-renowned jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves and critically acclaimed trombonist Wycliffe Gordon joined NYO Jazz as special guest artists for the ensemble’s Carnegie Hall debut. Ms. Reeves was also featured as a guest artist on the tour to Europe.
That soprano, man. He good.
Mans went in like his life depended on it
*Director: Sean Jones*
*Solos:*
Trumpet: Eric Gonzalez (1:29) (Osceola County School for the Arts, FL)
Piano: Brooke Wyatt (2:10) (High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, TX)
Soprano Sax: Evan Mickas (2:52) (Stanford Univerisity, CA)
Trumpet: Cyrus Mackey (4:15) (Dillard Center for the Arts, FL)
that lick from cyrus @4:30 is pressure and it matched with the piano giving you such a nostalgic lick bro
A salute to the sax section. Love the Evan Mickas solo at 2:55.. And love the sax section at 5:23, a wall of sound.
I always feel like guitar is impossible to hear
That’s probably because big band guitar is more felt than heard I guess
Who made this arrangement
the sopranos sounds SEXY bro
Alot of those solos were kinda off and you could tell from the other performers faces. That last trumpet knew what he was doing though.
both trumpet solos are great, maybe the first solo didnt catch you with his creativity
I’m impressed personally, much better than any highschool big band honestly
That is not at all what our faces were saying
@@sumabatman so the solo was bad ?
@@joshuagrant2330 No. They were great man. There was some high level musicianship happening on that stage.
