Brought tears to my eyes. Can't remember when I last saw each member of a big band truly respecting and appreciating the skills of a fellow member. It looked like each could not believe what the other was doing, even though she/he was equally as skilled in her/his own right. Now, that's teamwork at its zenith!
What a treat for these tired old ears and eye to see a group of talented kids who are really into what they are doing and carrying us along with them. This whole group I could listen to all night long. Thanks kids from Canada. I am 80 but can still enjoy talent when I hear it.
Love the saxophone section in unison at about 2:32. Holy Cow! In tune, in rhythm. They sound like a woodwind piano. Solos are impressive, too. But the ensemble is exceptional.
the male trumpet takes the cake im sorry but what the hell the rythms and all he's one crazy skilled trumpet beyond that of any teenager ive seen even summer was amazed at his skill
The rhythm section is swinging hard and right the heck in the pocket. They lay back a tiny bit when the trombone solos start I think? Or rather, they feel what the soloists do and reflect the same energy.
i think hes flutter tonguing although im not too sure about it heres a video on it ruclips.net/video/I0BI8A6kZPM/видео.html&ab_channel=PaulTheTrombonist
close your teeth, put the tip of your tongue touching your teeth, then open your lips. Then relax your tongue and blow air. Let your tongue repeatedly hit the top and bottom rows of your teeth.
@@zacha7856 its sounds different than normal flutter tonguing... almost like a growl+double tongue... its possible that its a different positioning of the tongue that produces different version of the flutter..
I feel like the pianist broke the solo's vibe. She proposed a completely different approach to them and, If it was the first or the last, won't be a problem. It was a off tempo style that was cool but not for that time.
Now THAT, is a trombone section!
That lead player sounds so much like Wycliffe
This is what Jazz is really about. I miss when we could just jam out like this ;(. There's no better feeling
@BloodyPig YT geoff calante is really really good
+Diego Payan, I Could Not Agree More. This Really Is What "JAZZ MUSIC" is really about. 🎷🎸🎹🥁
And Finally, +Diego Payan, I Could Not Agree More. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
That piano player definitely listens to Monk. Love to hear it

Evryone was incredible doing their parts but that trombone section stole the show for me . They were amazing !!
4:13 love the comping choices!

Interlochen Arts Academy is in MI, not PA
But who was the drummer?
God Anna was crying in the beginning, is she ok?
Gawd I was in an Allstate band with the second tenor, but what I would give to play with a band that good and have that much fun on stage
did cole play alto in that?
@@owenwalter451 Not Cole. Cole is tenor. Evan Mikas on alto. An incredible band.
that alto player has some serious tonal presence
I always have a special appreciation for the bass, just really brings the texture all together
THIS IS SWINGING THAT MUSIC
Those trombones!
Wow!
The rhythm section is swinging hard and right the heck in the pocket. They lay back a tiny bit when the trombone solos start I think? Or rather, they feel what the soloists do and reflect the same energy.
So GOOD! ENVY all these young wonderful musicians.
O my god I have seen a really high energitic jazz orchestra! I send my thanks to my amazing colleagues!!!!
1:40 is so good. So so so good.
Talented young people! They are definitely in good hands with Mr Jones!
That was electric!!! ⚡️ Got goosebumps at the end! Absolutely Incredible
Hard Lee Morgan vibes from that first trumpet solo, dope
Wao! Me gusta la forma de tocar de la NYO Jazz. amazing!
how is that trombone player getting that sound at 6:59?
i think hes flutter tonguing although im not too sure about it

flutter tonguing, you do the same thing with your tongue as rolling your r's and it gives a growl affect
@@zacha7856 its sounds different than normal flutter tonguing... almost like a growl+double tongue... its possible that its a different positioning of the tongue that produces different version of the flutter..
@@meanathradon easier if you just try different ways of blowing air, if you can hear the sound you can identify it :D
clean
swinging
But why's Anna crying?
Bruh I’d be crying from how bad my fingers are hurting after a set list like that
I see lots of cringe faces. These young kids get it!
hahaha normally referred to as "stank faces"
Did I miss something maybe I don't think you introduce the drummer, are you punishing him for making a mistake?
I think he was naming the soloists.
evans tonal presence..
4:07 juicy
no cap
Cute little emulators
Is the bassist alright? She looks like she's crying near the start.
Dull as ditchwater…..
I feel like the pianist broke the solo's vibe. She proposed a completely different approach to them and, If it was the first or the last, won't be a problem.
It was a off tempo style that was cool but not for that time.
She just had something different to say
It’s weird but good
It reminds of thelonius alot
yeah she killed the whole song
Pianist was on absolute fire playing that harmony underneath the alto. Completely broke everyones expectations keeping the intensity up
