Regarding New Congressman Santos: It is reported tonight that the county prosecutor in his congressional district has him under investigation, so does the New York Attorney General, as is happenings at the U.S. Dept of Justice. NOW, it comes out that in Brazil, thanks to his newfound notoriety, they've discovered where he is, and they want to get him down there so they can re-open a prosecution against him since 2008. He stole somebody's checkbook down there and wrote some fraudulent checks, then Got The F*ck Out (GTFO) before they could lock him up. So in addition to the fraudulent checks in Brazil, there's Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution. So he might end up on a rotating schedule of 4 different prisons, visit one in the spring, another all summer, the third one as the leaves turn orange, then Brazil in our winter, which is their summer, being far south of the equator. On the subject of corporations, a friend came up with a theory about the behaviour of corporate bosses. When you get the job, ask for your bonus and/or salary to be tied to the share price. Then implement staff cuts, service reductions, reduced benefits and some minor price increases. Nothing illegal. The market analysts love cost reductions (your profit goes up) and so the share price goes up. You make good bonuses.
It will take a few years for your customers to notice or care. So after a couple of years, you leave before the company suffers the effects. The last good staff leave, customers abandon the company and the share price tanks. Customers are left stranded (sometimes literally) and investors lose a lot of money. But you’re in another job and can say “well, when I was in charge, everything was fine.”
And repeat.
