  • Install Pro Series Helper Springs by Hellwig
    www.carid.com/h...
    This is a set of secondary helper leaf springs that add 2,500 pounds of load support while providing the quietest ride possible. Pro Series adds polyurethane cushioning blocks (sold separately -- see Product Options) that eliminate any rubbing, friction, and noise between leaf ends. The 2-leaf design progressively adds support as rear OEM leaf springs become loaded and compressed. Crafted from heat-treated ASTM 5160 alloy spring steel for maximum strength and resilience, these feature a spring rate that becomes firmer as pressure increases. Recommended for heavy hauling, work truck use, or pulling a 5th-wheel RV trailer. Maintains proper rear ride height, prevents original springs from sagging due to sustained load compression, and helps reduce bouncing during towing. Fitted U-bolts and related hardware are included for mounting. Drilling may be required.

    I mounted these on a 2006 GMC 2500HD. Because the inner U-bolts are mounted so far out on the leaf springs from the center of the axle, when they are tightened to the 65 lb ft of torque required, they actually flatten the leaf pack causing the rear end to drop 3/4 of an inch. I read another reviewer mention this same issue. I sent photos of the leaf pack before and after the installation to Hellwig and they ok'd returning the springs. I used the proper kit for my truck and my installation was correct. Hellwig is an outstanding company and customer service is top notch. I just wished they would have worked on my particular year and model.

    I installed these 2 leaf helper springs on my 2017 GMC 1500 SIERRA SLT CREWCAB 6.2 MOTOR, these are easy to install and help with no squatting of rear-end and does not effect ride quality. I pull a 24ft pontoon and 8.5x20ft enclosed trailer, because this truck came with 22 inch rims the factory tires (285x45x22) didn't have much for side walls, so didn't feel safe with the ride when towing. I recently bought load E range 285x50x22 TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T III, expensive tires they are but well worth it, the ride feels much safer and the mileage is the same. This was much cheaper than buying new 20inch rims and tires. Thanks Hellwig for a good product.

    Never ever work on a car with jewelry on or long hair albeit it as beautiful as yours where it can get snagged on something moving or not, that said I am contemplating these for my 1997 s10 rwd all the new springs I see are to lower the truck but I want to bring it back to the height it was when new or fairly new.

    Why use a double nut on the U-Bolt...why not supply with a plastic insert lock nut. That would make it much better. Hope you didnt lose a diamond from your ring honey wile working under the truck.

    • @bcubed72
      @bcubed72 4 года назад

      Frankly, I think for a high-load situation like this, I'd supply a kit with slightly ovaled bolts that won't back out. The shackle kit for my replacement leaf springs had 'em...was scared I cross-threaded them until I realized they were ALL like that!

    • @rescf02
      @rescf02 4 года назад +2

      Nylock nuts can fail and you cannot re-torque them. Installing pLaStIc iNsErT nUtS down facing and exposing them to the elements (water, dust, mud, salt, ice, etc) is not a good idea. A double nut is more dependable and less likely to fail. Lastly, making a joke about losing a diamond from a ring/somewhat implying that women can’t wrench doesn’t hold quite much water from a dude that has his cat as his profile pic. Perhaps they’re showing the ease of installation by showing that a girl in plain clothes and wearing jewelry can get it done - a man owning a cat just may be able to complete the task as well! Give fluffy a nice pet for me.
