I think it's time for an up-to-date edition of "The Laptop Guide for Creators". I'd love to see how this Z16 stacks up against the Zephyrus M16, the ProArt StudioBook 16, the MacBook Pros, and the new XPS lineup, to name a few!

The problem ist that: if you're working with h.264, then Intel is the only reasonable choice because of the hardware acceleration. However terrible, terrible battery life 😕

Ive been using z16 for more than 5 months, the build quality of it is pretty good. There is no issue when playing aaa games like God of War or cyberpunk in high setting. Prior to this purchase I used xps 15 with gtx 1050. I admit the premium feel of Dell is better than msi. However, that device was suffering with a lot of quality issues, from battery swelling, DC Jack input, to thermal throttling.

That Z16 is absolutely mouth watering. I'm currently rocking an XPS 17, so I don't really have any need or desire to upgrade right now, but I'd buy the Z16 in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a new machine. The machined aluminum chassis with the 16:10 glossy display is just absolute perfection, which is why I bought my XPS in the first place. I honestly don't think I could ever get a laptop without those features anymore. Plus two SSD slots is a must for upgradability purposes.

In laptops with such a big screen, I don't see the point in having lower wattage GPUs - it's not suddenly going to become more portable being slightly thinner and lighter, and I think it's better to have a high wattage and then just cap the framerate with v-sync if you want it to run quieter. Compared to these 90-100 watt GPUs, I'm guessing the game will run smoother because it can briefly tap into extra power when needed and because the cooling is designed for 130+ watts it might also run quieter as well.

The problem with the thin and light Stealth is that its barely any thinner and not really any lighter than the G77. The only reason I picked the GS77 over the G77hx was because the mousepad is where it's supposed to be. The mousepad on the Raider is sitting almost all the way to the left of the laptop... So your hand sits on it no matter where you place your hand on the keys. We need to get rid of mouse pads on gamers >

MSI GS65 owner here (the one that appears at 01:42). Although I love the design of the Stealth devices, my experience is that the build quality is seriously bad. Not the chasis or the hinge, but the internal components, something that's normally excluded in the reviews for obvious reasons. My unit, after a few months it had a few RGB light keys burned, the bluetooth card is terrible (low range and disconnects frequently) and I had a swollen battery that needed to be replaced twice. All these issues in a period of 3 years. The first year is covered by warranty but then you have to pay repairs from your own pocket.
When you look online you can see is not just my unit. A lot of people is having the same issue with MSI laptops.
I hope MSI improves this cause I love their designs, but I won't buy another laptop from them just to confirm. I'll just go with Asus or another reliable brand that pays more attention to build quality. I hope this comment help others when deciding to buy a laptop.

A creator laptop without an HDMI port is really a no-go for me. As a creator you often use beamers/big screens to present you work to customers, or you connect to a second monitor when working at the office. I have experienced it gets really annoying to carry around a dongle every time. They made the device thicker, but didn't bring back the HDMI port.
Also, the screen supports a special pen (which is great), but it doesn't flip around all the way. Now you have to work in such an akward position.

I’ve had a MSI GS 65 stealth for 3 years, and I’ve loved it. Yeah the build quality is lacking, but the performance has been solid for a device so small. Also I think the gold accents makes it the nicest looking device in the entire line. • @arshbishnoi7731

i've had the same for 3 years, the keyboard lighting has become pathetic to control, the rgbs gave in a year ago and started malfunctioning showing different colors than it was supposed to and going of on certain colors. And the fan assembly, oh my, i had to take the whole assembly out as the fans on both CPU and GPU started buzzing so loud and vibrating so heavily as if it was a hacksaw cutting through stuff, so i lubed the fans minimally, repasted both die, then assembled all of it back and it all ran fine after that. but the sheer amount of panic that an average customer goes through after buying a relatively expensive product, makes the brand look unprofessional.
And now, the battery started popping which resulted in the trackpad coming off a little from left, both bottom and top, now i have been looking for a battery replacement, cuz the clicks on the pad feel very hollow and I have to press too hard, also it'll break other plastic parts if i don't replace it in time now.
Just. had to. let this all out. even after i have shat all over it, the performance is just marvelous....though it has suffered from thermal throttling and one of the SSD sticks just goes MIA from time to time.... so i dont know man, if you're facing all this, but would feel good to know.

For things like laptop even if they can make the components smaller I'd rather they feel up the space so.e other way to make it perform better and more reliably, and also make the whole construct that much more durable.

Quiet fan noise is a big selling point for me.
I use my MSI GT75 Titan in a shared space and high-end (Turbo Mode) fan noise that comes with most AAA gaming just isn't viable.
Gonna keep a close eye on this GS77 model when it hits market.

IMO, this year's best gaming laptop is asus tuf F15 with 12700H + 3060/3070 at 140W. That wattage is going to make the difference in performance than other laptops in the same price point. Going to upgrade this year... No reviews from anyone yet :(

Honestly still rocking the GS65, and my only complaints are the motherboard is flipped so upgrades are not easily accessible, and and the build quality I would say is just fair.
Been considering getting a new laptop, but seeing this puts another MSI computer in the running.

Like what he said, and as what we always know is that it’s really hard to have the laptop thin but solid and with high performance, but obviously MSI is good at satisfying both! GS77 & Creator Z16P are pretty impressive! Wanna have a real experience on them!

Ok the Z16P is ticking the box for me... That aspect ratio, the 180° hinge, and the touch screen, that's exactly what I need.
The only concern I have is the battery life, an average of 3 and a half hours isn't bad, but isn't great at all when compared to so many others..
And I heard someone complain about the hinge of MSI Z series, that's the exact same issue I have now with my Lenovo Yoga 730.. Hinge is gone, laptop is stationary, and I spent a lot getting it... Now I just can't move it.
I've been having issues finding who can fix it here, haven't found anyone yet.
That said, I'll keep an eye on the Z16P... I think I might get it in the future if my pocket allows me..
More light on it Dave, maybe after some extra use if possible. Thanks man and great video 👍👌💯

I have been watching Dave's videos for 4 years now and I have always appreciated his balance between in-depth assessments and summarized reviews. However, this video seemed a little rushed and the fact that he ended the video talking about battery life seems a tad bit strange, to me at least.

I dunno. I actually don't like the MSI GS77 design since it detracts from the more cleaner aesthetics of yesteryear. Reminds me of the 2019 Omen. It's probably the back end. But I do agree that the extra mm of thickness helps a lot. It makes thin and light more thermally capable.
Maybe you can check out the TUF Dash F15 2022. It's also a complete redesign but still maintain thiness with what seems to be capable thermals.

I am with you on this crazy thin issue for sure, I would also like to see Laptop companies bring back or re-add the 2.5 space for storage especially now that they have the 8TB SSD available nowadays
I for one AM a Gamer, but don’t do much these days as far as graphic content, I do however have a very large iTunes video file, so large storage space for our movies and tv shows me and my Late wife could watch when we were on holiday trips or just traveling away from home, yes could relay on streaming but not all hotels have good enough internet or is too expensive for the time we are there just saying, remake room for the 2.5 drives again please tell them DAVE2D give it to them straight Rock lol :)

At a certain point, I don't think there's a need for a thin device when it sucks. Some ppl buy gaming laptops just because they are "casual gaming" but they still do and get an additional monitor as I did. I didn't buy my laptop but I wanted one just for the entrance point. Now I m planning to get something decent as a desktop but maybe in 2023-2024.

You have to realize that some people play games not on a flat surface like a desk. I use my laptop on the go. Typically in a hotel (or a place that my only surface is the bed), and utilize it on a bed next to me for content. I have also used it on my lap, even though it is a notebook (NOT a laptop). There are things that MSI does to be good overall.
My biggest gripe is the downfiring speakers, they are trash for my situation. The grill on top is also key for my situation. Which is why I say MSI made products for everyone.

Not overly impressedby these 2 devices. There are other laptops like M16 and G15 from Asus which, despite being lighter and similarly thin, now coming with higher TGP, 120w, to the GPU. The M16 and G15 also have similarly impressive 2.5K display which is brighter and covering similar color gamut coverage, MUX Switch, making them far more suitable for both gaming and Creative works. Battery life, there is MSI or other any brand can do, despite having those huge battery....that comes with having Intel chips...with great performance, comes poor battery life.
