@@avaiblehandle to some it has a different meaning, yes, but for some of the older gents, it still symbolizes the pain and suffering we have all done and gone through to get where we are today. I would like for ALL the younger gents (and gals) to make this a part of their video library and watch it every now and then as a reminder of what we went through to get here. And some of the younger crowd is STILL going through it today when their parents kick them out of the house when they find out their son or daughter is gay. I personally know 4 individuals whose parents kicked them out two years ago. Two of them were beaten up pretty bad when some of their friends found out, one of them nearly died. So please, don't just continue saying and believing that it has evolved to mean something different.

@user77836, when you look at it in all honesty, can you really say that it has totally been repealed? Even in our country of the United States, we may not have something like paragraph 175, but some parents who kick their son or daughter out of the home when they hear their child is gay; practice paragraph 175 pretty strongly. Then when some of their friends find out, they beat them up. I personally know of 4 who were kicked out of their home. Two were beaten so badly they were nearly unrecognizable. One of them nearly died from their injuries. I, myself have been beaten and left for dead two different times. So, I ask you again, is paragraph 175 really repealed?

It's worth noting that whilst many of the groups mentioned were liberated after the war, the gays weren't as the British, Americans and Russians still viewed homosexuality as a crime. Gay men incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps during World War II were forced back into prison even after the Allied forces won that conflict.

As a former film student myself, I have to say that THIS is one of the best I have ever seen. Everything-props, lighting, music, sound effects, the period props, the costumes, and of course the acting. As the comments below state, this was long ago, yet NOT that long ago. I can't imagine what it must have been like to have lived in that time.
Bravo. And the actor who played the Standartenfuehrer is almost a dead ringer for Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most brutal of the Nazis. "The Butcher of Prague" he was called.

Scrupulous, dramatic and gripping period piece! One of the first films I have seen about the Holocaust on LGBT people in Nazi Germany. Tragic tale on having to destroy someone you love in the name of loyalty to a tyrannical government. This film raises the question: will you choose love or duty? My heart breaks over the many people like Harmon and his lover who were savagely persecuted and killed all because of their love for each other. It is shameful and despicable homophobic hatred and discrimination of this nature exists. The time for this really has to end. I was glad to see Harmon kill that snake and reunite with his lover in the end. To any LGBT survivors of the Holocaust alive today, my prayers and best wishes go out to them. No person should ever endure such cruelty.

So interesting that certain phenotypes are identifiable with particular geographical regions. The blond guy's eyes are Southern and I have met many boys/men with those eyes here in the Blue Ridge and in Richmond. Another phenotype that is recognizable is the boy in REM's video for "It's the End of the World"

I thought that killing the colonel was just a fantasy... He didn't really kill him, in reality he was waiting for the other gay man to arrest him. He didn't want to do that, he wanted to kill the colonel and live as a gay man, but he was afraid so he did what he had to do to live. At least that's how I interpreted the scene.

This film showed so much intense love and passion, I was quite shocked, as you very rarely come across this intensity in real life, never mind in a movie. I am what you might call gifted, not as these brilliant gifted actors, but on the mechanics of the human male. The intensity shown in this movie, can only originate in one area, and I'm afraid that I'm going to disappoint over half of the human race, because it is not in the heart, as that is the lifelong auto pump, it just pumps. It is what is nearby to the heart, and in the lower abdomen, where the male real passion lies. It can be so intense, that even a male actor, will not be acting the part any more, because he is actually living the part.
Just five minutes with any male, gay or straight, of any age, and I would prove to them, what every male has hidden away inside them, it is the secret what females are always trying to find out about us males. But alas, even when told the working system, their minds are not wired to comprehend these technical wonders.
Ludwig II of Bavaria, his Schloss Neuschwanstein, was built by males, on a rock, in a very hostile environment, when I see this beautiful structure, I see men, and their own Eternal Boy Within. It is the latter which really puts the icing on any cake, whether acting, or building castles, Cheers to our Eternal Boy Within.

the more some things have changed for the good, the more the darkness in some people's hearts has stayed the same or grown even more vile. cherish the rights we almost take for granted and remember those who have gone before us and suffered for being like us. was 1933 Germany so different from the hatred various groups feel in America today?

Uh, Tat Wolfen, his Vice-President proposed notorious anti-LGBT legislation that lets people discriminate based on religious grounds and Trump is looking to do the same nation-wide, his Secretary of Education pick donated to conversion-therapy groups, his pick for attorney general has voted against every pro-LGBT measure and has a 0 rating from HRC... so yes he's done a lot of anti-gay stuff.

Really welldone - if that's not too much of an understatement. Hard to believe that the same country that produced Donald Trump also produced this. Maybe there's hope after all.
