This story is happening too often. In the USA 40% of homeless young people are LGBTQI. Same horror is here in France. We have a non profit organization called "Le Refuge" but kids are tossed into the streets by their foster family - or biological ones every day.
We need to do more. Build some safe places, help them to study and grow. This is a duty, not only for the community, but foremost for the sake of these young people.
It starts with kindness toward them and a constant and strong pressure upon the authorities to force them to fight LGBTQI-phobia and fund foster organization.
thanks for this movie. heavy subject but a good script that doesn't end with a mandatory "happy end" so we can face the truth.

This sends a great message. Foster kids, especially those who are LGBT, face so many challenges. This film has inspired me to actively pursue a dream I have of starting a small group home in the country where young men can complete their HS diplomas through independent study, learn necessary life skills, live and work in a loving and cooperative environment, and be free to grow without fear of rejection.

YES Tim Warren: DO IT! I'm also pursuing my dream to build an academy/organic farm for homeless LGBT boys, and give them a safe, fertile environment where they can blossom to their full potential. The system, and homophobes won't do anything, so WE WILL and WE CAN.

Foster kids, regardless of their background/faith/beliefs/others stuff, have difficult lives. However, the responsible here is the close family, the extended family, and after them the government that prefers to spend resources on people living outside own country. Just imagine how their lives will be if instead of rescuing people from the other side of the world, the rescued ones are from home?

being homeless is a helpless situation. you run to the people you trust.
group homes don't help when there's homophobics around.

I live in the UK and in my city there is a massive problem with children in care. care homes are full at the moment we only have 4 open and a small amount of foster placements. I have been in and out of temporary homes, mainly because I'm gay. most of children that get kicked out will not be able to get a place making them home less. we need more support for the LGBTQI community and for the care system, so if you have a spare place don't be afraid to help someone, just because we are in the care system doesn't mean we are bad people.

I've never been homeless, but I've experienced and continue to experience other issues that are really only issues because I'm gay. I need to get back into my mental health program, and try and find an LGBT+ support group as well, I really need that. My social worker was amazing, had her for four years and she helped me through many tough times in my life, but then she left the agency and they set me up with someone new like I can just start over. It takes me a long time to trust someone and not having my Ashley anymore sent me into a deep panic and depression and I went off my meds for the past several months. I need to get myself back together as best as I can and really try and get a relationship and a better, happier life. Thanks for making this movie.

I was really wanting to see what happens to Ben, but it ended too soon. I hope this was just "part 1". This makes me want to become a foster parent. I'd let the kid know he's part of my family now. How can people just kick a kid out on the street like that? So heartless. Ben deserves more than what he's been given in life.

It is so heartbreaking to know that this actually happens. I worked in a group home and was the personal RN for a boy/man. He was a real joy to take care of, he was a permanent resident there. He had many physical problems and needed round-the-clock care. I became good friends with the house mother and father. I learned a whole lot about foster care and some about adoption. I wish I could help every infant, toddler, child, adolescent, young adult who is in a situation like this. As I said, situations like this, and they are far too many, are really heartbreaking.

No one can remove his problem of being homeless except himself. The state of being homeless has two facets; first, the psychological, an extreme longing for home, with the a mind boggling burden that no one will take care of you except yourself; and second, the emptiness, lack of food, toilet, clothing, shower, etc. etc. in the person's mind that increases day by day!

This show brought some memories rushing back. My family, their Pentecostal. Gay is forbidden. I was kicked out of home and my church. Lived on the streets. I found my path, oddly, because of what my church taught me. Be strong. Do good. I actually had a moral compass that helped me through my dark times. Never had a chance to make amends. Parents past away at 18. Some other stuff happened long before I was able to comprehend what gay was that, to this day, Eats me up inside. Somehow, I find comfort in the comments...knowing I wasn’t the only one.

I know sounds a bit cliche but that's what I thought when music started playing.

The good thing is, in my country we hardly have homeless people (germany). Also Im happy that in the small town where i live 100 percent no one is homeless and I have never seen somebody who is.
But I know it's a big worldwide problem and it needs way more attention.

What a kind and caring social worker. ALL SOCIAL WORKERS should be more like that. I know a wonderful DHS worker who has been so nice and wonderful. But, unfortunately, I have also seen people who are in Social Services who are about as caring as a rock. People who don't care about what happens to anyone but themselves have NO bussiness in that profession.

Such a sad story... I'm about Ben's age in the film and I'm sorry it's one thing to be put into foster care but still that's very psychologically devastating and especially if you're being bumped around foster care, If I was in the foster care system and my Foster parents treating me like that I would be really hurt I don't know what I would do..... I would of probably done the same thing that Ben did.... run away, because Social workers say that they know it's hard but they don't know the true feeling unless they were in your shoes...... I'm proud of how strong Ben was... I hope your life has turned for the best.

I wish every social worker was like the beautiful human being lady, who cared very much. It's hard all around. GOD BLESS these young homeless people and children out there. This hurts. I would love part two with a happy ending. I would love a happy ending for all homeless young people and children, every single one in this World. Wish I was very rich.

Breaks my heart each time I watch it! Also "The System" does too! I am reminded how lucky I had it growing up, even with an older sister that still hates me for being born and my Parents letting her get away with the abuse I received/receive from her I still feel so lucky and have spent most of adult years helping others as much as possible. Before 9/11 I was in a very serious relationship and we both talked about these situations and how we planned on taking in older Children "that no one wanted". Oh what dreams we had. Maybe one day I find the right person again and keep that dream alive! I hope anyone that reads this thinks about trying to help at least one of these Amazing, yet tossed around Children. Please, xoxo

I, too, enjoyed this film, a bit of a downer tho, thanx for making and sharing. It's a horrible situation for anyone to be in especially if you are gay. As some societies call them "disposable kids". I at one time signed up to take kids who are gay and parents actually through them out.... I did some training, etc, but before anything really got off the ground, the state cut their funding and shut this program down that GLYB initiated.
Like the other comments, a sequel or full length is needed for ending. Happy ending would be great, but not realistic. Again thanx ;-)

Tragedy and devastation as the film moves to its final moments, but I loved the perspective of it. I'm not saying those intimate times between boyfriends are boring, but I prefer to see new angles that are real and that expose real world dilemmas. I liked how they gave us an insight into Ben's relationship with Joe without actually having us all engaged in the action of how it all started.

Wow! Powerful story, terrific actors and production. I wish it had a "happy" resolution, and would love to see a feature-length film or mini series. According to recent surveys, 30 to 40 percent of homeless kids self-identify as LGBT! We really need to bring more attention to their stories, and more dedication to helping all homeless kids (and adults). Thank you for this short.
